Hi,

My fiance and I are going to get married in Krakow this summer.
Our civil wedding at City Hall will take place in the USA before we go to Krakow for a symbolic ceremony in the outdoors. Do any of you know how to go about hiring an officiant to lead such a ceremony. We are looking for someone who speaks both English and Polish.

Thanks!

I think the clerk does it for free (or for the regular amount paid on the civil marriage). Or it's for a wedding party?

Do you know which institution I should contact?
Thanks!

normally you get your wedding at USC (Urząd Stanu Cywilnego), but I'm not sure if they'll do it, since it won't be a "real" wedding, as I may guess?
In Poland you can have two weddings - first at USC, then at a church, but not the other way, if you've been wed at a church they send the documents to USC and you're married for the official purposes.

Hi Dorota,

I think I'm in the same boat as you - we'll be getting married in the UK before heading out to Krakow for a symbolic wedding - also in the outdoors!

The original plan had been to pay someone from the USC a backhander to come and officiate at our "wedding" but apparently the government is cracking down on all extra-curricular activity by those guys, so we're having to start from scratch and find someone to officiate. I haven't had any luck yet, but will let you know if I do - I've got some friends in Poland helping me with the search at the moment.

It might be worth us getting in touch anyway to compare notes on progress - drop me a mail at joe@stbdesign.co.uk if you think it's worth catching up - it maybe worth comparing notes on a few things as 'out of towners'

-Joe

Hi Joe,
I am in the same situation you both are. Did you finally find someone in Poland who can lead a symbolic ceremony and speaks good english?
Please, any tip is very helpful.
