a sorry - :)

btw there is no such things as commission in the Polish kantors that I know - they only earn on the currency rate spreads - completely different in the west - there you have some going buying and selling rates (which are usually far from as advantageous as in Poland) and on top of that you have a commission - if you buy/sell smaller amounts of money the commission will take a big chunk out of the already not-so-good rate

well maybe things have changed recently but I remember exchanging money was always better to be performed in Poland no matter if you were travelling in or out

You're right, if it's a major currency or very close to the border of another country. But I've found the Polish kantors are pretty horrible when it comes to anything that isn't Euro/Pound/Franc/Dollar - could be because they simply can't get rid of it for a profit. The spread is usually massive on other currencies - for instance, Ukrainian Hryvina gets exchanged with around a 15gr spread on every 100 everywhere except on the border.

didn't know that - the prices of Czech or Slovak korunas were pretty reasonable in the times I used to visit kantors (oh ok there are no Slovak korunas anymore)

Would they be cheaper as compared to ATM as well? Where I come from - Flanders - kantors are definitely the last option.

I was in Italy before the introduction of euro and some people brought their ATM cards with them - as far as I can remember the rate sucked big time (I had my liras bought in Poland)

I don't know about now

I also found it was much better to exchange PLN/Euro for Hryvina in Ukraine directly.

Hinduwarsaw, there are plenty of no commission Kantors in Bangkok.
