P³oszaj Family in Bilgoraj or Ksiezpol

Am tracing my family genealogy and have traced roots back to Bilgoraj and Ksiezpol circa 1900. Am looking for any contact info that might help me trace the roots back before emigration to America. Thanks.

Family name was P³oszaj...

If you know who they are and where they are from.

Try this: http://www.archiwa.gov.pl/?CIDA=43

It's the (Polish) State Archive. In English and Polish

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't. I have the ancestors who came to America and listed those villages/cities as their place of birth. I am looking for remaining ancestors who may have stayed behind.

Possibly from "p³oszyæ" (to scare up, spook wild game), a nickname that might have been applied to a beater in the employ of the local lord when he went hunting or to someone known to go about scaring people. Or conversely -- a scaredy cat. Possibly also a toponymic nickname derived from such places as P³oszewo or P³oszów (Scareton, Spookville, Frightboro?).

There are 686 people with this name at nasza klasa.pl

The site has a forum so it might be worth leaving a message.

Keep in mind that most of the posters at nasza klasa are youngsters. There are some older folk too, who might be able to help.

A carefully worded message might gain results.

Problem: You will have to register first and it's all in Polish.

edit: I notice that the name Ploszaj gives many results at ancestry.com

Thanks, Wroclaw. I googled that site and don't find anything. Yes, there are many immigrants with my surname and I've been able to whittle it down to my actual grandfather and uncle who immigrated in 1912. Now I'm trying to find farther back into the old country.
