That's not true....they need a national ID card or a passport to travel to the UK.

i am going to say the obvious ... havent applied for one

but kind of confused .. are you referring to your respective polish boyf or someone connected to him?

I mean how are they getting into the UK in the first place as you have to present your passport when boarding a plane?

As Ranj mentioned. A passport is not required, if you have an ID card. Everyone must have an ID card in Poland. It's the law. So, no excuse unless the ID card is the old version, but then you can exchange it for free [well almost. It's 30zl]

I have seen people enter the UK on an ID card.

What is this ID card ?? I thought that even though Poland is part of EU you will still need a passport, the onlay place I can go without mine is Ireland, Scotland or Wales... Can you leave the UK back to Poland with this same ID card ????

yeah, ID card is a document. like a small disc (similar to drivers licence)
which has all your basic information on it, some digital prints and citizenship number.
we can use it to travel inside the EU.

This actually sounds like a very good idea, I still presume most Polish people still have passports etc for ID purposes when looking for work or bank accounts here in the UK, or will the ID card still work for that..

ID card = Dowód Osobisty.

To be honest I think the law is unclear. As I understand it you need a passport. But I know people and I have seen people enter the UK on their Dowód. It has to be the new plastic version, not the little green book. It might depend on the immigration officer. I don't know. But of course the answer is only a phone call away, if you are travelling.

Crossing the German - Polish border..........You only need a [new] Dowód. That's for sure because my wife does it every week.

Lloyds tsb bank state that if you are polish you can use either a passport or your id card to open an account and based on the account you open with them you can get a card to send to a desinated person back in poland the use of this card to them is simple you top it up here in the uk via lloyds bank and send the desinated person the pin number and they can then draw the cash you have sent i have the booklet on it in front of me

True.

But it also shows how important the card is and what value it has.

Yes you are so right, I think that most countries should adopt this type of ID it is much easier as you can carry it in your wallet/purse, I for one dont carry my passport everywhere only when needed for ID purposes or traveling, so it makes it a much easier for everyday use.

Yes you are very right, but the way it is being portraid here at the moment is like it will be a kind of big brother thing, ALL and I mean ALL your information will be kept on this card.

The only information an office will take from your card is. name, age, address, card number.........and check the photo and signature.

My passport, with its magnetic strip, probably has more details on it..

Seems to be. The British public are a bit paranoid about it. I think it would be a good idea if introduced correctly. What more could the government know with an ID card that they don't already know...?

i think this is a good point, although my arms and the arms of my nation are open to EU visitors WE HAVE TO CHECK who is entering our country and for what purpose, do they have a criminal record, do they have HIV or AIDS or any other illness that could conclude in the death of British nationals.

This may seem harsh but this is the reality of the situation. We have enough criminals in our own country and some will say enough people to populate it. We need to as a nation to start getting tougher about immigration as a whole and not be to scared to offend a few Eastern Europeans or Arabs. After all this is the safety and well being of our nation at question here and not about who is coming over for tea or to take a few pictures of big Ben.

If this seems harsh then i'm not going to apolagise because i'm sure everybody would have the same view if you were in the situation of the British people. Of course i invite your views on my comments as always :)

thnx

do they have a criminal record,

This may be slightly off at a tangent...

Not sure about the process in England/Wales/NI but when someone applies for a job in Scotland and are from another country a Disclosure Scotland check only goes as far back as how long that person has been in the country and reveals nothing about their records in other countries. For this a police check has to be requested from the last country they were in or were born etc. Now, if an ID card were introduced here and everytime you got a criminal conviction it was added to your ID card this would save a lot of time on Disclosure here in Scotland and if people coming from other countries carried ID cards with the same information it would also save a lot of time.

Not that I mean they wouldn't get into the country with an ID with convictions on it, I mean for when applying for jobs here in the UK. Requesting police checks from other countries takes weeks and if you've no convictions this can be very annoying.

no i wouldn't stop, in fact this is exactly why we have these immigration problems because people stop. They are scared to offend a few people to protect the wellbeing of a Nation, whats a no to a few thousand people compared to the wellbeing of the Nation. It does not even come close in my eyes.

Its hard and its harsh but its reality

this is exactly why Dolly when people come to this country they should be vetted first. We waste money on things like the dome and so on, that a few million to set up a decent immigration vetting service would seem more than worth it, don't you think??

Not a lot, I'm sure.

I think that the UK will end up with them eventually.

I'm thinking more of recruitment. You may get into this country with a minor assault on your record which most places of work wouldn't bother about but which would probably result in you not being offered a job in my place. It would take me weeks to do a police check in another country and therefore would waste my time and the person applying for the position.
