Hi, I'm staying near Gdansk, trying to learn Polish and teaching English. I did my CELTA in Krakow where I met a great bunch of people! Now I'm trying to do the same here. Please help me- it seems much quieter here than Krakow...

Pruszcz

Unlucky: I lived there for a few weeks before realising that Gdansk would be a far better place to live.

There used to be an English conversation club but I have no idea if it is still running.

I'm English and living in Gdansk (Przymorze). There's no expat scene here that I know of and I miss having expats (particularly fellow Brits) to meet up with. I had an English mate here, but he went back to the UK a few months ago. I'm starting to miss the UK lately as well and I think I'm going through the withdrawal phase of cultural adjustment of living in a foreign country, so it would be great to meet up with some fellow Brits who are here, just to not feel so isolated.

Your post is perfect timing because I was thinking of posting something the last few days. There must be other brits living here in Gdansk (Trojmiasto) surely!

Come out, come out, wherever you are!

GREAT!! There's hope!! :)

I'm afraid I can't PM because I haven't posted enough yet. My email is maddieplonk@yahoo.com- drop me an email and we can sort something out. I'd love to hear some stories... hear a British accent over a beer.

re: conversation club- I don't think it exists any more :(

Start one!

I need to put the photos online, but I've been running the "language exchange club" in Poznan for over 18 months now - and we get about 30-40 people coming every week. Just find a friendly pub with no loud music that will let you make a reservation, post online, post on facebook, stick up some posters in language schools - and people will come.

For instance - our meetings are organised with the Poznan CS community - http://www.couchsurfing.org (also - you're bound to find a few Brits on there that live there)

The only positive thing is that they build a highway passing nearby.

I have some stories-I've been here for four years. However, I'm American but some of my friends are from the UK. There's really no expat scene here, but most of us go to Absinthe, a pub about 100m from the Golden Gate, next to the Wvbrzeze theater. You can always find someone there.

there is one very positive thing about Pruszcz - it lies just next to Gdańsk and there is a train to Gdańsk every hour or even half an hour (most through trains stop at Pruszcz as far as I know) - aren't there also city buses that go from Pruszcz to at least Gdańsk Orunia? (you can catch a tram from Orunia to the city centre then)

Well, I'm in Pruszcz (the land that God forgot)haha, because I have family here, and I'm in Poland to learn Polish... It's true though Gumishu, it's not hard to get into Gdansk from here- train/bus/mini van- takes 20 mins.

Call me eager, but, Expat evening at Absinthe bar next Saturday anyone???

What time? I'll be there and I'll try to round up some friends, though most will probably be Polish.

8.00 is good. If the weather is good, I'll be outside. Just ask at the bar for Scott. They know me. They'll tell you where I am.

Hi all!

My husband and I recently moved from Chicago, IL USA to Gdynia Centrum area and have been looking for some English ex-pat gatherings. Would definately love to meet up in Gdansk this Saturday! (Let me just work on a babysitter for the kids :)) Feel free to email me at sarah.tristan@hotmail.com...I also am too new to PM.

Gdyniageorgie - do you know the name of the jazz club? Is it in the cinema building? Any information is greatly appreciated!

Hope to meet you soon!

I've been living in Old Town for 4 1/2 years and I'm always happy to help people here. Maybe we could meet for coffee someday and talk. If you register, you can send me a PM. I've met a couple of the other posters on this thread. Nice people.

What are you doing in Gdansk?
