Hi,

I have just moved to Rzeszow with my boyfriend and I dont speak any polish, I am about to start private lessons.

I would really love to make some new english speaking friends, as I am finding it tough with not being able to have a conversation without my boyfriend translating for me. At the moment facebook is my lifeline to the english world.

I am 33 years old, we are renting a great house in rzeszow. we have a dog that i am spending loads of time walking, I enjoy chatting with friends, shopping and just having a laugh.

If anyone feels like dropping me a message that would be great.

Thank you and I hope to hear from you.
Lesley

Dear Lesley,
I am in NY, married to a man from Rzeszow. We're in our 30s. We have been discussing moving to Rzeszow and recently decided that this summer would be a good time to do it. I spent a month there last summer, but only speak basic Polish (okay vocab but no grammar!) so I understand how you feel!

If we move to Rzeszow, I would love to get together, since I know I would go crazy without having an English-speaking friend. How are you adjusting to Poland? What do you like / dislike?

I would like to teach English (easiest job since I do not speak enough Polish) and have emailed a few of the schools, but I am still waiting to see how that goes.

I'm so happy to see another English-speaker in Rzeszow. It would make my transition easier. Hope to hear from you soon.

Bethany

I know a guy who works in Strzy¿ów which is nearby. He goes through to Rzeszów about once a month and he loves company. I could put you in touch with him.

Hi Lesley,

Good to see other English people moving to Poland.
My girlfriend is originally from Malawa near Rzeszow and I have this crazy idea of us renting our house here and moving over there to try a new way of life :-)

We're looking to do something in the coming months and are lucky enough to be able to stay with her parents to start with and then find our feet.

I am at the 'Get by in Polish' stage so have a lot to learn with the interesting but very tricky language and like you would need rely on my girlfriend to translate.
Interested to know what the current situation is with regard to jobs (other than teaching English) , how you are finding it over there, any particular issues etc.

If the plan comes off (or we are just back in Rzeszow again to visit) it would be good to make friends.

Hope to speak soon

Anthony

Lesley, theres an english club that meets once a month normally in a place beside the rynek. Venue changes from time to time but its normally Da Vinci. They're about due for one soon so i'll PM you with the details when i know.

As for jobs depends on what your background is, there's some IT work around but have a look at www.rzeszowiak.pl or pracuj.pl to get an idea of whats offered generally. Without Polish i think you might struggle and with teaching English i'd suggest you have at a minimum a TEFL certificate.

Otherwise there's a few of us around.

I hope this is still an active thread - my wife, dog and I just moved to Rzeszow for a couple years on a work assignment. Neither of us speak Polish (but intend to try!), and this looked like a good place to start to try to meet some others in similar situations.

I saw some postings for an english club, but none for a while - does anyone know if it is still active?

English are invading Rzeszów! I bet they can't even properly pronounce the name of the city - the impertinence! ;-)

My question is are there more than 5 couples in Rzeszów that speak english? What I mean is: Is the city like Kraków where most of the young people you meet speak English because it is such a big tourist city or is Rzeszów different?

What is there to do in Rzeszów? What is the city nice like? Is it worth visiting? Is it worth visiting just to realise how poorly I speak Polish?

Thanks

English Club *is* still active - it was on last friday at Da Vinci's. It's usually the last friday of the month at 7pm.

Hello to all English people in Rzeszów. Hope you are enjoying the weather at the moment (right now a thunderstorm lovely....). Usually summer is pretty good, especially by English standards. I've been trying to mix with local people but without working here it's not easy. You can't just stroll down to the local pub and start chatting. The perfect place to meet people in summer is Rynek (The Square). Most inhabitants under the age of 30 can understand and speak a degree of English (as far as grammar goes probably 50x better than me). You will get a much better response by trying what ever little Polish you know than just talking English.
I noticed the note about an English club meeting in Da Vinci. I've been coming back and forth for sometime and didn't here about this. You learn something everyday, although I’m probably never here on that day. Will look out for the people wearing a red and white (Mmmm same colours as the Polish). Anyway it's always good to meet people from any country so if you want to meet up - in the Rynek - just let us know where and when. My wife is Polish and has been living in and around Rzeszów all her life. She is a teacher (PE) and an Aqua Aerobics fitness instructress. The only work I do here is English conversation classes - not bad for a Cockney eh! Drop me a line at Billinpoland@hotmail.com and I look forward to getting to know a few more people here.

Hi

Just thought i'd send a quick email as i've been to Rzeszow a number of times and although its still fairly Challenging to say the least, try and learn to speak their native tongue as it can make the difference. I & my fiance are to be married in Church near the Grand Hotel in the centre next June and currently considering building a House in my partners village about 10m south of town. Although general living expenses and fuel are expensive the cost of property is ridiculously cheap compared to SE England and the way things are heading here well we might be better off living abroad.

Anyway, back to college soon to catch up with the lingo and will be travelling to rzeszow once more in October for a wedding and plenty of VODKA...... :-0

Hi Lesley,

My husband and are moving to Rzeszow in July. Although we are natives of Poland and speak the language , we left the country as children and have spent most of our lives in Dallas so as you can imagine, we're quite Americanized. I'd love to stay in touch and possibly get together once we arrive! We are both in our early 30s and will be looking for a house to rent as well bc we have two dogs who need a little running room :)

We'll be in town May 14-19. Let me know and we can exchange contact info.

Best,
Karolina

Hi Lesley, I just registered but for some reason the password is not working, so I thought I would just contact you as a guest. I live in Debica, which is not far from Rzeszow. I do most of my shopping there. I'm also looking for some friends in the area. I am married to a Pole and we moved to Poland 5 years ago. If you have been able to find someone who actually knows how to teach Polish as a foreign language I would love their name. If you would like to chat contact me at, kerriottaway at hotmail.com. (the system won't let me use the at symbol)
