Soooo, you just plan to meet a total stranger in a small town. Apparently if you do a 360 degree turn, then you've seen everything.

Some strangers are quite trustworthy, like me :) However, it can be risky :)

Siob, what would you like to see and what do you expect to see?

I agree with what the others have said.

You can't just meet randoms by yourself.
You have no idea who they are. They probably are trustworthy but how can you be sure?
Even if you just said 'females only', how can you be sure that the person actually turning up is female until you met them.
The internet is great and you can meet lovely peeople but be careful and don't ever meet people on your own or if you do make sure it's in public and you don't go wondering off.

There are nutters in this world.

Take care.

don't mind that lot Siobhan, Polish Forums is full to the brim with trolls who are slap happy to **** on anyone.

Gliwice is a cool little town.....it's not a city and don't let anyone fool you into thinkin it is.
Go to the main square and there's a few nice pubs and restaurants there.
there's a micro-brewery that doubles as a upmarket restaurant too.
There's another cool pub just down from the main square that has it's own beer too and everyone in there is young and hip and nice....but I'm stumped if i can remember the name.
The park is really nice there too and there's a mad kinda market there when you can get everything fresh fruit to bullets and old cameras and all kinds of bric a brak too

PM me when you're coming and I might be able to get over there coz I only live down the road in Katowice

But anyway you'll prob meet a load in Gliwice and because it's a university town most of the younger people speak English and because they place doesn't get a lot of tourist ther are really open to visitors, unlike this forum.

Trolls? Sensible advice, I'd say.

Gliwice is a city, not a town. What microbrewery? I've lived here for 7 years and never seen it.

Bullets? Wow, pity there are no guns, I guess.

Most of the younger people don't speak English unless you get closer to them.

Open to visitors? Not really. They are too indifferent to be open.

It's amazing how Poles, through their idealist's goggles, just see what they want to see.

a city, not a town

I reckon tho it's only coz Polish has the same word for city as for town, back in Ireland Gliwice would be a town population wise, like there's no way Chorzow/Zabrze/Gliwice are bigger than Tallaght/Swords in Ireland

there are no guns

Yea if you go down the very far end of the market (closest to that big museum thing in the park, or whatever it's supposed to be) there's a couple of stalls selling air guns and you can get some old WW bullets and medals and stuff too
microbrewery

dont know the name of the street, but as you walk from the train station to the main square and when you come to the biggest junction on that street you turn right and it's just down then on the left, looks like a hotel and it has a big huge Juz Otwarte (now open) sign on it, it's a kinda upmarket restaurant with some really great beers.

Also the other pub with their own beer is.....if you're lookin at the entrance of the Hemingway pub in the main square then you go down the street to the left of it down to the end and there's a wee pub just there, might be up there next week for a PL match if you wanna get a pint
how Poles

I'm not a Pole, I'm a Paddy :)

City is miasto. Town is miasteczko. In American English, it's a town. It's all relative but it's classed as a city here.

Ah, air guns. I would say pellets rather than bullets :)

I know where you mean. It's opposite the city hall. I know the place you mean on the market square too.

Aha, you're Irish :) :) Do you know a guy called Jeff in Katowice?

This is not a chat room. Please don't take the thread off topic

So where is the original poster, Mods? Again, write and flight.

I reiterate that a forum is about discussion and we are discussing Gliwice. The OP writer can learn sth, right? If she wants sb to guide her around then she has various offers here in which to take up or decline.

Warka Bar is the best place, I'd say. It's near the market square, just round the corner from Kontrabas/Telepizza.
