telefonitika is right.. it really depends on the individual. If you are an employer looking for hard workers or someone with a Polish partner or friends then you would obviously have a more positive attitude than someone who is against too many foreigners coming into the country.. and since the influx of Poles is particularly high, there has been some backlash from certain ignorant members of soceity against Polish people.. there are extremes at both ends so its not wise to generalise. Even my Polish partner who has been here for 5 years looks at newer arrivals who fit the stereotypical image (eg) men in baseball hats drinking in the park or using the K word on the bus etc. etc... with some disdain at times, to put it mildly.. he got approached by a Polish guy begging the other day and told him to speerdalay. As for me, I like the Poles, but a bloody Bulgarian nicked my phone the other day and racked up £300 worth of calls, so they can all **** off home.

You want an Honest opinion, most people Ive met think of Poland steriotypically, they think its a very poor, rundown country and think its the reason why there are so many in the UK.

Obviously this isnt true however thats called tunnelvision some people jus' need to see beyond what they hear from one person to another.

You wouldnt believe the amount of immature gobshite I had to put up with when I was seeing a Polish girl.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the amout of threads springing up asking questions like: 'how are polish people perceived' Aren't there enough threads already asking the same question. How many times do you guys needs reassuring?
Personally i like polish people but i think some of the newly arrived ones (females especially) have a mentality bordering on paranoia and some form of inferiority complex.
If not, why else do polish girls always feel the need to keep telling you how beautiful they are?
Some polish girls may be beautiful but so also are a lot of other girls around the world and you don't hear them going on about it!

unfortunately, there are a lot of ignorant people in the UK who know very little about any other country apart from UK and the US, and what little they know they gain from rags such as Daily Mail and The Mirror and biased programs on telly. My mother in law is one example of this, she has pretended to like me for 12 years and now has turned on me. She has asked me repeatedly why there are so many Poles in this country, she gets quite angry about it, even though it does not affect her in the slightest. She never leaves home except to go to the local shop. Next time she asks me I am going to be rude and ask her why there are so many bloody peadophiles in this country and what is she going to do about it.

Ps. My mother in law really is backward - she doesn't even know what a fax machine is, haha

You don't show any respect and understanding for older people. You don't deserve any better treatment.

Yet another generalisation, I'd say most people in the UK have passports and travel quite a bit and are not in the slightest bit ignorant - but dont we all love to generalise :- )

paedophilia is a worldwide phenomenon.

It is highly frowned upon in western countries and offenders exposed & demonized, as opposed to other countries in denial where paedophilia is largely swept under the carpet.

Gratitude for what?

for being nice to her all these years, helping her move house, giveing her two grandchildren, and in return hearing bad things about myself?

she is not a nice person, believe me, and if you met her she would no doubt look down upon you, because she is superior to everyone. She even looks down on my mum who put her up for a week, cooked for her etc. My mum said she was shocked and upset and she nearly threw her out when she told her (that is my mum in law told my mother) that my husband married me because "I made him" ie the poor soul had no choice. Which is a load of rubbish, especially as he is older than me and more set up in life than I was at the time so he did not have a gun to his head.

unfortunately some older people are bitter and negative. I can assure you that I sleep very well at night knowing that I do not hurt people and do not look down on anyone.

I wonder if she would treat me the same if I was English-born, it seems to be that her prejudice and small-mindedness is all coming out now.

Amathyst, yes, British people do travel, but not many have been to eastern Europe or Poland. Spain, Portugal, France - yes. Eastern Europe - where's that?

actually many of us have believe it or not. I think you show a disrespectul attitude to your mother-in-law, whatever you might think of her.. you chose to marry her son and she is now part of your family. If you want to live here than stop moaning about Brits and maybe she would like you better.

maybe so, and sorry to hear you're having a rough time at the hands of your mother in law but you're letting the same negativity and bitterness manifest itself in you too .

If you were English born you would have known to stand up to her immediately instead of letting it drag on for 12 years and i'm sure your mother-in-law would have respected you more for it.

Only solution is to start standing up to her. And if you can't, it's only a matter of time before your english-born children sees what's happening and starts standing up to her.

As they say, what goes round always comes around. Good luck.

but please, in future, don't generalise and say negative things about people, especially your host's culture. It just doesn't go down well.

I have...many times and know many people that have, like clair said stand up to her - I dont think the fact you are Polish has anything to do with it some mothers will never feel that any woman is good enough for their boy and as for the rudeness thats her and she should be ashamed of her behavour and had it been my mother she was disrespecting the b*tch would have bounced out of the door

I think the only time anybodies ever said anything like that is on another forum I go on, but that is generally full of single nerds who are more jelous than anything.

Yeah Lee it got to the point where I told my mates to **** off and walked out of the pub, they didnt say much after that but you've got to understand that from my experiences there is alot of stereotyping happening towards most immigrants.

...Even though she wasnt even in this Country.

I am not moaning about British people, I am British myself, but of Polish origin ie. I am not British-born. It is the British people who are moaning about Poles in the UK, and they just go on stereotypes and what they hear on the news or read in some rag. The papers never report the good stuff.

I am sick and tired of some ill educated person telling me she is better than me just beause she is British.

As for going back I would love to but I can't because then I would split my family up.

In Ireland, they are well liked and respected in general.

They are white, christian and hard workers. If they had a better command of English, there would be no problems at all. This will come with time.
People would far prefer to have the Poles than some of the other immigrants we could have.

It is true that you see scumbags in their baseball caps cursing at women, kurwa this, kurwa that. The worst place is Midelton in Cork. There are many polish criminals in this town.
Similar to AV, I had to put up with a lot of ******** because my partner is Polish. Polish men all thought they had some right to fcuk her because she is Polish.
I have had drunken Polish men calling to my door asking to borrow money at 3am.
I have had drunken Polish men barge into my sitting room at 9am completely drunk and spilling alcohol.
Polish guys punctured the tyre on my car.

Once I got fed up and started kicking the **** out of them, they weren't so tough anymore. They think they are great fighters, but they are drunken idiots, one hard punch and a lot of them will go down.

They think because they are Polish that they are somehow superior to Irish people, they have a major chip on their shoulder (a lot like they seem to claim the German are all the time, even though I've never seen German do this). A lot of the younger Polish guys like to think they're gangsters, even though if they met a real gangster, they would **** in their trousers.
The Polish women comment all day 24/7 about how ugly or fat Irish women are, and how much better things are in Poland, but if you ask them why they left Poland if its so good, they become offended.

Or they will talk trash about other good Polish people even when they don't know them.
Its very scary for a woman over here because a lot of the Polish men are utter b*stards and can act in a way they wouldn't be able to in Poland, they don't batt an eyelid, but even worse, the women will label another women a ***** even though she may have never done anything.

In a lot of ways, it was a great shock getting to know some of the Polish immigrants because they are so dis-honest and do not stick together, but instead try to climb to the top of the pile by hurting each other.
For a while I was borderline racist and hated Polish men more than any other, but i think a lot of these criminals had to move to other places, so now we have mostly good Polish immigrants or at least they are the only visible ones.

Not all british people moan about the polish in this country only a minority and it tends to be people that read newspapers and believe the hype written and gossip that spreads like an infection!

I have never once moaned about the influx of polish in this country owing to the fact my grandfather came to this country from Poland in the 1940's following the resettlement of the polish after the country was liberated after the war.
