I've been repeatedly told by my girlfriend and her family that a gift of shoes are bad luck too ... which is rather annoying because i know she LOVES shoes and I found a pair I know she would love ... we should all start a new superstition: all superstitions are bad luck! :P

just get them a voucher and they will spend it on their favourite shoes, watch or whatever, it doesnt bring bad luck if you buy it yourself ;)

What she will really like is if you make your own *special* perfume for her. It's not hard to make such, just use your fantasy! :-) Maybe something with licorice-water, lemon juice and a bit of baby blood. And when you give it, just make sure she will put it on, even when she tells you that she want to save it for later, because she finds it to precious. ;-)

Times change so I can't say how gifts are perceived in Poland now, but two general rules I remember were these:

- No presents that may imply hurt - no sharp objects such as knives, scissors (even the manicure stuff, weapons etc). Exceptions: presents bought for a collector and such.

- no articles that may implies deficiencies in the receiver's hygiene. Parfumes would be OK, but not deodorants, soaps etc.

the guy was stalking me thru PM, got back 3 times after being ignored and started suggesting weird things such as washing my dishes and giving me a back rub afterwards... so now you know where all these attacks come from. he obviously misunderstood what i said on another thread and he thinks im short (im 5'6"). so sad. thanks for your support ;).

yes i thought i might ask the gentlemen on here, what is you favourite aftershave? what do your girlfriends/wives like on you most? need to get something good for a present to a special man in my life :).

I never use aftershave. I DO use Old Spice Classic deodorant - nothing special, but some people have commented that they like the smell of it. I heard Bill Maher (on his HBO show) comment that the Old Spice people were wasting their time creating "OS" cologne - that women did not want to have anything to do with men who smelled like the uncle that molested them as children. I thought that was uncalled for.
You should get him something that YOU enjoy the smell of - he's probably not going to care, as long as you like it.

If I speak from myself, aftershave and such things are quite personal. So I would suggest to get to know what brand he uses. Else keep the receipt so he can change it if he don't like it.

no problem by the way i know you know that the D&G stands for Dolce and Gabanna... althaught you seem to be into designers:) , designers are so exclusive here in canada , you guys in europe have all the nice stuff on hand! Now just make sure you dont buy somthing like "Aqua Velva" which is like the old spice of after shaves ....you dont want that unless you want him to smell like those funny uncles! you might make him regret his gift too :p
