Hello everyone. I stumbled across this website a few weeks ago and reckoned it was about time I joined in.

Quite simply I am attempting to learn Polish and have been doing ok since day one, six months ago.

However, I am now looking for inspiration regarding grammar. I find the vocabulary and pronunciation straightforward to learn but when it comes to cases ... blimey! ... Accusative ending for this, Genitive ending for that, it seems so complex.

Saying that however, there are rules in place but they are so damn tricky to remember which one to use and when.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who suffers!!!

Dziękuję

Dziękuję Magdushya.

Eastern European languages have always intrigued me and the sound of them in conversation is very impressive. I have always been keen to speak another language and having been spoonfed French at school I was reluctant to take it any further. Russian looked daunting, the Cyrillic alphabet put me off. I had an uncle who was Polish and thought that was good enough reason to learn.

Since I began learning, the influx of Poles into my neighbourhood has been astonishing. There are now three Polish shops in my High Street! Therefore I feel justified in choosing Polish, in that it will become more prevalent in British society and I will be able to converse. Even my eight-year old son can now speak some Polish with me!

Therefore it is for the challenge!

Dziękuję telefonitika.

I am teaching myself (probably bad habits too).

I have three in-car CDs so I can listen every day on my way to work; I have some PC software also and a few teach yourself and reference books (many obtained off the Internet).

In all honesty I'd love to be able to do a college course etc. but I am not aware of any round by me.

High Street!

In the centre? No? Smethwick maybe? I want to find the Polish shops closer to my place. I live in B'ham too however with my fiancé

I have to eat Polish food, after English I've started loosing my shape. Some people say that is because of artificial supplements and hormons inside it.

Telefonitka is learning Polish also and is good in that

HI there, Im also from the West Midlands (Dudley), but currently living in London with my Polish bf. Have been thinking about moving back to Brum though. Where are you learning Polish? I also need to learn, I know a bit, but not enough that would be acceptable to use in polite society. Anyway, welcome fellow Madlander.

As I said earlier, i am learning from various media sources such as PC, in-car CD, books and the Internet. I would be happy to attend a college course in Birmingham or nearby but I'm not aware of any course providers.

Anyway, nice to hear from you sapphire.

I too have been learning from the Internet, CD's, books and me Polish friends and you're not alone with getting used to cases!

Anyway, here you go -

The Brasshouse Centre in Birmingham City Centre (Sheepcote Street just off Broad Street) has all sorts of language courses including Polish.

ww.birmingham.gov.uk/brasshouse.bcc (add another w infront of those two - the anti spamming control won't let me post the whole link).

Click on the 'Modern Foreign Languages' link towards the bottom.

Hope there's summat useful there.

Cześć janski. Dziękuję.

Thanks davidpeake.

ArturSzastak, I feel like a man on a mission as you say, since I find myself reading Polish lessons constantly. My workmates think i'm a bit strange as they don't share my interest in such an "obscure" language as Polish. I probably don't help matters since I find myself repeating in Polish the things I hear them say in English.
