The old adverts painted on the side of apartment buildings in Warsaw are now protected, and rightly so but I remember someone once saying that there were no TV adverts during the PRL. So it wasa surprise when someone sent me this:

..
Does anyone know of any more?

Merged: Some information: cult PRL cars and ads

Hi,
I'm a Spanish person who is going to visit Warsaw for the second time. I visited most important cities in Poland fifteen years ago, but now I am going to visit Warsaw at the end of July.

I am a collector of die cast car models and I have been able to buy some of them at ebay althoug it is really difficult to get them.

I know that there is a collection called KULTOWE AUTA PRL-u that is sold in bookshops. In Spain there are some bookshops that sell old numbers of different collections of cars and other collectibles. What I would like to know is if there is any bookshop which sells this kind of products there.

I have also read that there was a market which sold old russian things there. Perhaps they also sell car models there.
Can you help me with this information? Thank you very much for your help.

Probably you want this:

kultoweauta.pl/index.php

You can still buy some at "eBay like" service, but it is in polish only and you need registration.

allegro.pl/listing.php/search?sg=0&string=kultowe+auta+prl

Old russian (or maybe soviet) things you can buy in Warsaw each weekend at gieldastaroci.waw.pl.

Thank you for your help. But as I am going to Warsaw, aren't there bookshops or toy shops where I can also find them?

The tunnels under the main railway stations in Warsaw (Dworzec Centralny, Zachodni and Wschodni) have benches and kiosks filled with old magazines, DVDs and sometimes these "collectables". When you arrive, take your time to explore underground.

The stations were cleaned up for the Euro so a lot of these little places were closed, but hopefully it will be back to normal trading now.

The only other place I can think of is a little "modelarstwo" shop in Hala Mirowska, which is on Al. Jana Pawla II.

I have on my desk a model of the Syrena Sport, which the publisher of magazine gave me personally :D

The big chain EMPiK which sells books, music etc. Several shops in Warsaw, I saw this collection in one of the EMPiK shops, at WOLA PARK, Górczewska Street, but I'm sure they must have it in the EMPiK of Marszałkowska Street, opposite the Palace of Culture and Science, on the east side of it.

Thank you very much again. Just to complete the fantastic information, are there die cast model shops or toy shops which sell this kind of models in Warsaw?

Today, visiting a few cemeteries, we drove past thousands of cars. Among them, I spotted two PRL oldies - a tarted up Polski Fiat 125p and a junk Polonez.
