Hi,

I have been running my British car here since arriving in Poland 18 months ago or so and as the documents have now expired it's time to get rid of it so I'm offering it for sale to anyone, purely for the parts of course.

Ideally, as I'm not a mechanic in any way I'd love to sell the entire car to someone who can then break it themselves and do as they wish with the parts but if need be I will sell individual parts.

If anyone is interested then please contact me on jasonsmurray2003@yahoo.co.uk specifying what you would like (either whole car or individual parts) and how much you would be willing to pay.

Obviously, parts are parts and I am aware of how rare it is to find MG Rover parts, particularly outside the UK so prices will be set accordingly, but as an entire car I appreciate it is British and cannot be registered etc etc so am happy to let it go for a good price if that is the case

Please be aware there is a small problem with the electrics which has meant that sometimes hitting these bloody potholes here has caused the engine to cut out completely on a few occassions

Cheers
Jas

I just thought of something else also, if anyone knows of any garages etc who may buy Brit cars for breaking then I'd be grateful for any details, Cheers

How completely rotten is it that you're considering breaking it? Are you that desperate to get rid of it?

it's not bad at all, just this electrical fault which has come back to bite mew a few times. last time, i hit a pothole, engine cut out and I came to a standstill on a level crossing, only managing to push my car off the lines about 5 seconds before a freight train went steaming past so I took that as a sign. And as I can't register it, insurance etc now invalid I'd rather just get rid. An 03 plate with only 67,000 miles on the clock, so it's still a crackin car, I really wish I could keep it but with what happened....

Jeez...thats potentially very lethal...having that happen while overtaking a line of cars would be no fun at all....

How much do you want for this car...????

Well, that's a good question wildrover. The car in the UK, as it is, is worth somewhere shy of £2000, about £1800 on my last check, which would also take into account the cost to fix the electrical problem. Now, if someone wants to take the whole thing off my hands here, bearing in mind they can't register etc I'd be willing to accept a lot less, perhaps half the price just to get the monkey off my back so somewhere in the 5,000zl range.

Of course, this is bearing in mind that I could probably earn more than that if I break the car and sell parts as it has alloy wheels, sports suspension, bucket seats etc etc which all add up.

So basically, I'm willing to lesson to sensible offers

Breaking cars only makes sense if you've got the space to store all the odd bits that no-one wants (like a 1.4 K-series engine.)

It does sound like a good little motor, and that fault is certainly repairable. Surely it's worth trying to get it back on UK soil and stuck on a certain auction site, than stripping it down just to sell some half-leather seats and some old alloy wheels.

Either that or put it on the Polish auction site, allegro. Poles buy cars to convert to LHD all the time, so this one should at least earn you 8-9k if it's as good as you say, possibly even more.

I don't think they do k series headgaskets in packs of 10 in poland :) (however the polonez was fitted with the 1.4 k series for a few years)

Personally i wouldn't bother stripping it, As rich said theres a set of half leather seats in it, some silver dials, A set of hairpin wheels and bumpers etc, Probably wouldn't reach your 9k, By the sounds of it its far to good to break!

Have you checked the earthing points on the engine there could be a loose one thats causing the cutting out?

Get yourself on mgrover.org, Find out whats wrong with it, repair it, insure it and drive it back to the UK to sell.

Failing that sell it on Allegro someone will buy it! I can't see a rover 25 being too difficult to convert?

There was someone on here in the aussie section of the forum who managed to register their RHD in PL.

I'd love to get it back to the UK to sell, but how would I go about insuring it taxing it etc so that when I arrive in UK everything is all above board? Right now, it has no MOT, tax or insurance.

As for repairs, I gave it to a student of mine who runs a local garage and he "repaired" it 3 times, obviously didn't do a good job of it but last time I spoke to him he just gave up and said he had no idea why it kept cutting out and he advised me to get rid

Book it in for an MOT at dover and drive it to the UK, when its passed its MOT go to the post office and tax it :) Make sure its insured first!

I've done this a few times, The main thing is keeping it insured.

Also look at the connections on your fuel pump that could be the cause of it cutting out.

Thanks dnz, I just assumed that without tax and MOT the Police would be waiting to pick you up off the ferry. I assumed that's one reason for logging your registration plate with stenaline. That's a perfect solution to be honest, could do it over a long weekend but my big worry is that the car would cut out, again, en route and I'd be screwed if it broke down anywhere along the way

Yeah..it would not be too clever if it cut out while you were overtaking in the outside lane...could be lethal...!

Just get AA 5-star Europe and then if it does break down, you aren't paying for any more petrol.
