My son needs to start taking Miralax daily and while I can order it online and have it sent over it'll take a few weeks. I'd like to start it while he is on spring break this week. Plus I'm hoping it could be a bit cheaper since he needs to take it for at least 6 months.

By chance is there an alternative I can use here?

Miralax is a powder laxative that I can mix into his juice. It use to be a prescription in the states but now it's over the counter so I'd like the same strength as that is what our directions are for.

THank you :)

The best solution would be to go to the pharmacy and ask there ... supposing you will be lucky and someone there speaks English or you know a bit of Polish.

Any doctor's office should have one of those fat medical drug reference guides. They will list generic equivalents along with active ingredients. Also, a pharmacist will be able to suggest generic alternatives.

Really? I assume that there's some sort of diplomatic immunity for this?

I've heard of people getting in quite a lot of trouble for trying to import drugs from the US.

You might find it easier to order from the UK (days rather than weeks), have a look at this link it might be useful.

It depends on the drugs being ordered - I doubt that some laxatives will cause any problems.

chipmunk, if you can't find a Polish friend to go to the pharmacy with you (with the miralax packaging if at all possible), then write down the ingredients (in latin whenever possible) on your miralax packaging (if you have any) and give that in writing to a pharmacy and they should be able to give you a close equivalent.

Be ware thought that Polish and American ideas about medication* are different enough though that I would say the chances of an exact match are about ..... zero.

*ime polish people are bigger hypochondriacs, but overall they (self-)medicate much less than americans do and childrens' dosages tend to be smaller and weaker than in America, just my experience ymmv

No worries, it's shipped through our embassy so no laws will be broken. :)

I'll try my luck tomorrow at a pharmacy. I didn't know if anyone recognized the name and knew of an alternative. I do have his current bottle and perhaps that will help and if not I will ask his doctor about a generic/local substitute when he gets back.

Thank you!
