Ryanair cancelling flights to Poland at short notice

In addition to the already announced cancelling of flights from many airports over winter, Ryanair seem to be cancelling flights that are un-economic for them. My friend from Krakow has been warned of a cancellation and it seems to be in relation to Ryanair's financial difficulty and depute with various airports about charges.

(Ryanairs fuel bill, this year, 2.5Billion euro, will exceed last years entire income from all sources, they are in serious trouble)

Basically, be warned Ryan may drop flying to some airports altogether and they are entitle to do it under their terms and conditions.

yeah you are entitled to your money back if the airline cancels and you dont wish to except a flight on another day or time :)

Centralwings have also cancelled flights to Krakow from the UK as my mother tried and had no joy and had to book through easyjet for Christmas.

put it this way, if your flight is a cheap as chips, surely you cannot expect everything to be perfect. If you want a perfect flight then go BA or something, stop complaining here because you want to save yourself a couple of quid and then cry when your flights cancelled. If you wanted to be certain of your flight then you should have booked with a better airline!!!

I do agree when/if i happens to me I am angry, but companies have to make profit, simple as. I remember before cheap flights, bus loads of Poles slogging it 14 hours to England. how things change.

JET2.com fly to Krakow from Leeds Bradford from £100 return including taxes.

They came out top in a "Which" ( consumer magazine ) report about budget airlines.

Yes but obviously with a week to re-book they will be far more expensive.




And £200 from Ryanair (I double checked on the same dates Ryanair are more expensive than EJ). BA are £275



Thats the smoke screen. Ryanair don't hedge their fuel (as the Ryanair boss puts it "hedging is for ******* gardeners") so they have been paying the full price of $140 - unlike most airlines that have contracts at $50-60.

So basically Ryanair are losing money hand over fist and trying to squeeze it out of their customers and the airports.



Jet2.com are paying very little for their fuel (they hedged the price for next two years) so they will stay competitive.

Ryanair are unique among all the airlines as Mike O'Leary has taken a massive gamble on fuel prices and lost, to the tune of over a billion Euro's.

i looked at ryanairs site the other day, was just checking out some domestic flights to Scotland, but i noticed that they fly to loads of airports in Poland, such as Bydgoszcz, Łódź or Poznań. flew with them to Dublin once, funny how all the cabin staff were Polish.

Meanwhile, the airline is also set to temporarily close operations at between November 4th and December 19th at a number of European airports, including Budapest, Krakow, Palma and Salzburg. link

Ryan was once cheap. Not any more. But whatever. They're still sh!t

They enter a contract to buy fuel at a fixed price for a set period. Many airlines have agreements giving they fuel at a fixed price far below the market price. Jet2.com are paying something like the equivalent of $60 a barrel for the next 2 years whereas the market price is $125 at present.



But in the current crisis an airline like Ryanair will simply cancel the flight if its un-economic for them, and their fares do not cover the cost of the fuel.



Indeed and in fact its now cheaper to use the train to get to the south of France (for instance).

I do not think Ryanair are a normal airline, I meant that "normal" people can book cheaper in advance with most airlines, it pays to book in advance. Ryanair=cheap last minute unreliable, goodness help you if you have a connecting flight, type thing.
Didnt some airline company go bust after they took all the bookings from people about 4 years ago, it was for Christmas.

It does make me laugh tho with the Poles ALL buying priority bording passes and then still having to wait in a huge queue and then they ALL rush up the first set of stairs up to the plane

but that's the thing, they promise a Pole that HE will get on the plane before everyone else, can't imagine anything more tempting than that! all the jealous stares you will get! i think that if they assembled a seperate gate with a VIP sign on it and a red carpet leading all the way to the plane, Poles would go crazy for it! LOL! what always makes me laugh is how they run to get on first even tho everyone has a seat assigned to them. it happens every single time...

it might be cheap, but that is our main dish on the xmas table ha ha...

on a serious note, of course a normal, straight thinking person will try to get the best deal possible. especially if it's a Pole lol. it is not true that cheap is always crap. i booked my xmas plane ticket last year for £115 (return) with BA, done it in may but that's what i'm talking about. it was cheap, and it was quality. just because something is expensive doesn't mean it's absolutely brilliant. it's usually just as good as the 'cheap crap', with a few fancy things that you don't really need trown in. and often you also pay just for the brand/name.

Two cheapest flight I ever got were 320 pound sterling to Nepal from London and 15pound sterling from Krakow to London.
Nepal return including taxes. Krakow London was one way

back in this thread again, wooop! confusing! anyway i think the best deal i ever got was about £40 (bought it in Poland, it's funny how the flights cost cheaper if you buy them in Poland) for a return London to Gdansk, only 2 months in advance (had a dentist appointment lol)... i'd probably get a better deal if i wanted to fly to Krakow, but that is on the other side of Poland.

had a £30 flight to Berlin (Germany)
£40 Krakow (Poland)
£15 Glasgow (Scotland)

Also lots of really really really cheap flights to Portugal, Spain, France etc etc the usuals really. I guess you have to remember this was before the big hike in fuel tax

I mean £30 flight to Berlin from Mozambique is very cheap but from Berlin, well that is just silly

yeah of couse sorry :) they are all from the UK, some from Bristol, some from Manchester, some from Gatwick. I'm sorry but i can't remember which is which as i've flown many times.

Actually, now that you mention it, I have flown return into Gatwich and out of Heatrow many times, an important thing to remember is from door to door, how much does it cost. I have really mashed myself up by not including the door to door.

I paid 293 gbp to fly back last week from Poznań to Stansted, The service is appalling, and These aforementioned priority boarding passes just make thhing entertaining, Why would you pay extra money to get on board a filthy, Poorly airconditioned plane 5 minutes before everyone else? I usually drive back now as its much more comfortable and not any more expensive than booking flights and renting a car at the other end.

I can't see Ryanair lasting that much longer with the current oil prices and the number of pi$$ed off customers.

technically you dont need to buy one if you have a child/ren as you can queue jump with most airlines anyways (i always get to board with the pre boards without paying for the privelge) .....

Especially when everyone else has paid for the same privilage. And to make it funnier, they all rush up the first set of stairs leaving the back set free for all the sensible people who didnt bother with the priority pass.

Same with getting off. They all jump up as soon as the plane lands, switch on their mobile phones and surge forward, leaving the back exit freed up for those sensible people sitting at the back of the plane

ha ha so true... i dunno why some Poles are so impatient, it's not gonna make their journey quicker if they get on the front seat and then get off the first set of stairs as soon as the plane lands. it's not a bloody bus! lol! everytime i fly to Poland the other Poles get up as soon as the plane is on the ground, the cabin crew tells everyone to sit down so they sit down in their jackets and as soon as the crew member is gone, they are up on their feet again, chatting on the phone to their relatives wating at the airport. if they could, they'd start queing up to the exit half an hour before the landing. it's mental, i'm always like 'bydło przodem' and sit tight until we actually can leave the plane and let them push each other to the door. it's funny to watch the person sat next to me all p*ssed off and bent in half waiting till i get up, cos he's already got his coat on and wants to get out NOW.

yes its funny that....every nationality seems to do it.....the ones who take their time getting of, soon catches up with the speedy guys, waiting on their luggage:)

Aha. But theyve thought of that too. Carry on bags fit to burst and squeezed into over head lockers so there is no room to put normal sized hand luggage. Still, if RyanSh!ttyAir is going to charge 25 sovs to check in a bag then fair play to them.

I think Ryan Air are great. Wroclaw to Stansted, Bournemouth, Dublin what more could you ask for. Ok, the service is not great but then again what do you expect for those prices.

Just found out today that my flight was cancelled by Wizzair from Katowice to Belfast, they didn't even notify me I found out by chance when looking for the departure time on their website and the flight no longer existed. Tried lots of other airline to get myself, wife and two year old girl home, however getting to Belfast was an extortionate price for the three of us, ended up having to Fly Easyjet from Prague to Belfast this Sunday...
Now i'll have to fight with the buggers to get compensation
