Will Poland become green?

The first step for Poland to became green is to get rid of it's dependence on coal. Coal is by far the worst polluter, especially as far as CO2 goes. That means stop mining it and stop exporting it, in other words: close all the coal minds, power plants, heating stations etc. It won't be easy or painless, that's because Poland's economy is based on coal.

But what's next? Surely you don't want to move out to a cave and sit around a fire? Oh, wait, that's also not an environmentally friendly way...

In my opinion the best bet is nuclear, the only thing is that Greenpeace opposes nuclear too.

So what's your opinion?

I'm now confused. Al Gore had me convinced that we're all going to die a horrable death in the next decade. But Rafik has opened my eye's in a different direction. Maybe it is all a con to grab more money from our taxes. You know, when you think about it. Is it so hard to believe that the Earth getting warmer might have something to do with the sun? And not what fuel man is burning!

Not at all. It always good to hear both sides of the story.
Al Gore's story is made to scare people into crawling back under the rock instead of educating them. Funny, that he opposes building nuclear plants even tough it is the cleanest way to produce energy.

I come from Newcastle in England. We used to have an idium in England that went... "It's like sending coal to Newcastle".... an equivelent would be... "It's like selling sand to the Arabs".... My point was maybe it's time to stop burning coal just because you have it.

Funny thing about this is many Polish plants that use coal are now starting to buy cheaper coal from the Ukraine and Russia. Something to do with it being cheaper to mine. Apparently Polish coal takes more money to get because it's deeper in the ground.

Katowice and Silesia in general has horrid air quality because of all the coal plants and mining there. Sure it might be cheaper, but this stuff is horrible for the air.

The world is getting warmer may not be as bad as the real problem of humans breathing the pollutants. Lung cancer and other issues should relly be the concern. Throwing milliona t research for cures is not worth much when the source continues coughing up pollutants
