Give it to us Americans for a year n' we'll make yer country as good as gold

Let's hope Poland never has a hurricane Katrina, because the way that was handled was a shining example of how not to run a country

nothing to do with the topic there bro

ok - lets try again. Polands biggest problem is people like you.

There is nothing wrong with criticising a place - everyone has an opinion - it just depends on the motive. You slag off a city and your comments are one sided and unfair. You have no knowledge or repect for the reasons why. Do you think it's always been this way? Warsaw is an easy target in every sense of the word. Warsaw is only now begining to rebuild itself. Would you go to a cripple in a wheel chair and tell him he's no fun because he can't walk? LOOK at the pictures!

None taken daisy, I tend to agree with that because there was to many things
wrong before hurricane katrina happened.. and no one listened.

during hurricane katrina.. while the mayor of the city graciously let thousands
low income people sit it out in the superdome , all those wonderful buses could
have taken a large number of them further in land to safer places.. non of that
would had to have happened.

he should have had the national guard there prior to the storm hitting
and evacuated them days before..

so this is a huge lesson on not what to do.. or next time do it right.

alot of people are still homeless though because of the levy, flooding and they
( insurance companies) wont pay for it..

Plus, they had someone in charge of Fema WHo didnt know his arse from a hole
in the ground..

I think many other Americans would agree with you daisy.

Of course this does not apply for every person but the sense of honour and dignity is much stronger in Poland, which is a problem because it jars with foreign people who no longer know the meaning. A similar example would be the church.

we are not talking about poland but about warsaw, the atmosphere of which has changed considerably over the last decade... it is now full of pretentious prats oozing self-importance about living in a capital city which, at the end of the day, aint all that when it comes to capital cities... or indeed in comparison to other polish cities

In 1945, the Polish authorities were about to abandon the hopeless ruins of Warsaw and move the capital back to Krakow. However the proud residents refused to leave and therefore warsaw was reborn, unfortunately under the communists which is why it's so ugly. The atmosphere has changed becuase the commis have gone. Now after 50 years they can show how proud they are again.

That's what residents of capital cities are supposed to be like. It's the capital. Just look at Paris - it's arrogance is legendry. Yes I know Paris is beautiful - but that's because it did not stand and fight for it's freedom.
Going back to the point. Polands biggest problem is that it's still under the shadow of the war, especially Warsaw because it looks shocking. It angers me when outsiders see it for what it is, they scoff and think it's always been that way. It looks like Hitler and Stalin got their way in the end - well for now anyway. Varsovians are not going to let themselves be put down.

Iv just sat and read every post from this thread and i honestly wonder if any of the people posting negatives have been to warsaw/poland recently. I have been 5 or 6 times in the last 2 yrs and im sorry, but the city is under reconstuction on a massive scale! Every visit there is a project finished and another just starting. For the people quoting bartek212 as if he has shown some kind of new and remarkable insight! Well im sorry, but i have been to almost every catital city in western europe and the old east and bartek212`s rant is exactly that! Young people in glasgow, edinburgh, birmingham, leeds, london, dublin, belfast, cardif, paris, amsterdam, brussels, berlin, prague, vienna, madrid, zagreb, bratislava etc etc all have the exact same complaints. Christ i could take you to some run down parts of glasgow that are less than 20 mins away from me and they would scare the fkn **** out of you . Bartek212, not so long ago i was you, i grew up in a not so smart part of town, i had no money, my family (dad in particular) would never have supported me in further education, so i had to leave school at 16 and find a job. Damn before that when i was 12 i worked on a market stall selling socks and made £1 (about 5zl ) for three hours work, then at 14 i worked at a dog race track and made £15 for working all day saturday and 4 hrs on a tuesday, wednesday and thursday. I am rather sad to see a youndg person like yourself with so many negative thoughts. Rather than think of all the bad points (and every country has there bad points, not just yours) think of ways to make it better! Then get up of your ass and make it better.

For the people questioning polish people, there ethics and attitudes ( and i realise some of you are poles) i honestly think you should be taking a long hard look at yourselfes, and dont steriotype a whole nation with regard to your own possible/probable failings.

I have so much more to say here, but i am so pissed off at some of the comments made on this thread that if i dont go now i will say something i will regret.

Good luck 2 you bartek in warsaw, and to bartek in berlin, and to bartek in riga, and to bartek in moscow and to bartek in glasgow etc etc etc

In Religion, Just like Politics and Business, you're bound to find a few bad apples on the tree.

Don't know about the religion, but as far as politics and business go the whole tree is usually rotten, minus a few decent apples here and there.

There are lots of big problems, but it bassically comes down to the fact that far too many people are only out for themselves and dont care a damn about anything that is not directly theirs or a potential asset for them. It shows in every part of life and many polish people have pointed it out to me. Its always somebody elses fault and noone seems to have the will to make a change. Same idiots get ellected every time, but it is they that the people blame for all their woes!! A very mixed up situation.

The last Tusk v. Kaczynski election was very close. It is commonly believed that the church hinted to the public who they should vote for. Also, Randompal knows a credible source who reported personally seeing election fraud taking place...

- Does randumpal, really?

Let's ask him to divulge the alleged 'source.'

Let's see if randumpal isn't lying and bragging again.

... I wonder if he'll insist now that when he bragged he knew the alleged 'credible source' it was merely 'playful sarcasm' on his part?

A close friend of Randompal's who worked as a volunteer for the election comission a few years ago. But you wouldn't know her.

I just realised what a terrible country I live in!!!
How could I have been so blind?
I must get out of here at once!!!!!!!

People what are you all talking about? After having read everything I can't believe it actually concerns Poland.
Life in Poland is not perfect but it's ok. We have our vices but you simply exaggerate.

Polad has achieved a great deal in the past 18 years..... I like being Polish.

By the way I live in warsaw (can't imagine way anyone would think it boring) and intend to stay!
