Poland to Change the National Anthem?

Do you think Poland should change its national anthem? Personally I think it should be changed because the lyrics don't accurately present the actual society. Opinions?

I personally do. There's enough talking about uprisings and "heroic losses"...

Yes - definitely - the part about legions and Italy is out of date as well as 1/2 of the whole text.

But I don`t think that it`s going to be changed any time soon.

I think the time right after 1989 was the best to do it. But since our politicians haven't been "lustrated" yet, I don't expect anything to happen soon either...

I have a couple of suggestions for our new Polish national anthem.

1. Maybe we should go back to "Bogurodzica Dziewica” to commemorate our forgotten roots and religion….

Or if some find it too unfashionable and shameful….

2. Maybe “Jak zwierzęta” [Like Animals] or “Koniec” [The End] or better yet “Piosenka Polityczna” [Political Song] by Elektryczne Gitary will do as a contemporary expression of our national identity.

Or if some think it does not reflect the contemporary world we live in….

3. Maybe we can skip having a Polish National Anthem altogether. We can simply embrace the reality of European Union and give our respects to our great European ancestors: Beethoven and Shiller by embracing and calling our own their co-creation “Ode to Joy.” On second thought from that perspective, Hitler seems to be very misunderstood…. All he ever wanted was to unite Europe…. Why in the world everyone was against him…..??

What do we, Polish people, represent today?

There is only one hymn that fits every bill and that is "Boże, co¶ Polskę". The melody is beautiful, the words useful and it has that "glorious" quality about it, fitting for a national anthem. Perhaps a bit on the Catholic side, but, in essence, so is the country. The hymn is also quite old, as is the nation - bypassing a few historical blips here and there.

The new anthem should mention Muslims, homosexuals, Jews, European Union and its constitution of course. I propose disco-polo melody.

It is, of course important to have a national anthem that POLISH people can identify with, that is the most important thing. But there is a generation gap in Poland between young & old. Hide your parent's voting card...they're going to vote PiS LOL!! I have played mazurek dabrowskiego to Irish friends and they are amazed by its beauty, melody, lyrics..everything. Also it's hard to ignore Polish football fans singing it at tournaments..the passion associated with a proud nation & great anthem is there for the world to see. This forum shows me, with it's foreign interest in Poland, the culture, food, history, language that Poland is making it's final steps to being a nation amongst great nations....you can find Polonophobia throughout this forum. "bedziem Polakami". btw in Ireland the national anthem translates as "a soldier's song" and we have not been at war with the British since early 1920's!

How about the so called British national anthem,it talks about "crushing the rebelious Scots" now thats outadate....
No,stick to the one you have, what a cracking tune,up there with les marsa..marsil..mareselisa...the French one :)
So what if the words are "old fashioned" isnt that the point, what are the alternatives to celebrating your past greatness in song? Maybe "Always look on the Bright Side" (well, not sure, life of brian /catholic country...hhmmm) or "Things can only get better" or maybe,"You say Goodbye,I say Hello"

Dabrowski's Mazurka is cool but just like its perfect counterpart, La Marseillaise, it is terribly out of date in terms of lyrics. Now the Mazurka is only useful when Polish football fans desperately need to show off their machismo, particularly when Polish national team is going to play the last game of the tournament (as it has been outrageously eliminated earlier!)
In my humble opinion, Poland (like so many other countries in the world) urgently need a new national anthem. The choice for the music is not hard, as everyone knows, Poland is blessed with many supreme composers, ranging from conservative romantics like Szopen, Wieniawski to ultra avant gardists such as Lutosławki, Kilar and Gorecki. However the lyrics for the anthem poses a really nasty thorn, which has not yet been solved even if Poland has an equally vigorous literature tradition. Just thinking about the demands of the theme is enough to drive even the most talented lyricist off to mental asylum: It has to appear to the old as well as the young, the masculine as well as the feminine and something in between, it has to preach peace (so no to 'sword in hand') without losing the ambience of heroism, it has to be 'gay' (old sense) without forsaking epicness, it has to be environmentalist without omitting the rest and it has to be Polish without forgetting Europe and the world.
So far, a quick fix to all this mess would be the marriage between the music of Szopen's Polonaise 'Heroic' (in orchestral form) and the inedible lyrics of 'Always look on the bright side of life'. It is a perfectly patriotic, humane and effective anthem for a 21st century Poland (though I may suggest that people watch the film 'life of Brian' in advance of the singing for adequate stimulation!)

Forget Chopin and all the "hard to sing" pieces. An anthem must be easy and uplifitng.
I propose this one for the new anthem ;)
(lyrics: Edward Stachura; Music: Kaczmarski Gintrowski Łapiński)

Good luck with that one....
I think MOST countries' anthems are out of date...ours is about fighting the British 200+ years ago. Last I checked, we're basically on the same side these days, with perhaps a little ribbing going back and forth.
"If it ain't broke...don't fix it"...

Yeah, the French hymn is about war, and especially the WW1...it mentions "impure blood" (enemy's blood) for example, now that Europe is getting "closer" and that Germany and France do their best to have a normal/good relationship...out of time, yeah ;)
+ the hymn is quite long compared to most of other national hymns...

;)

Like this ultra-modern disco-polo-operatic one:

If lyrics are so difficult to write, then I humbly suggest you just sod it and turn back to ancient Polish wacky dancing:

I'm for leaving the Polish Anthem as it is.

P.S. How do you get a youtube link built in a post?

If Poland changed the National Anthem it would must be "Rota"

This the only one alternative!

But I don't want the current Anthem to be changed. "Mazurek Dabrowskiego" is fast and enthusiastic. It makes Polish people ready to fight! Besides this anthem became a part of our culture.
