This is very simple - Poland during the cold war period was always considered Eastern Europe from a Political view point - BUT Geographically it is Central Europe. My girlfriend is Polish I always tell her Poland is Eastern Europe - I only say this because it really annoys her and I can tease her - It is Central Europe, politically though now it is Western Europe.

poland will always be considered eastern european by us northern and western europeans, Poland is culturally and politically closer to eastern europe than it is to central europe.

throught out european history poland has always been closer to eastern europe but thats not something that should be considered bad is it.

i think poland is central european cuz its closer to czech and germany than to eastern european countries (as balkans.)

what are you talking about, poland is in direct physical contact with lithuania, belarus, ukraine, and slovakia is to polands south and czech republic is to its right.

Not true, Poland has always been a mix of Western and Eastern cultures.

No. The languages have links, that's true, even if Lithuanian is a Baltic language...but I don't think we can assimilate one to another. So Irish people are the same than Austrian people ??...

Considering your nickname, noimmigration, i understand your view. But Poland is a Central European country, and i don't care if it pleases you or not.

Peace. ;) LoL

If we consider Russia belonging to Europe, then Poland is central european country.
Most people do not think of Russia as eastern Europe but only as Russia.Eastern Europe is Poland,Slovakia,Hungary,Croatia,Czech Republic more or less. That is what most people mean with eastern Europe.
Russia,Ukraine,Belarus are former Soviet Union countries or CIS countries.
Eastern Europe is a cultural, not a geographical term.

I would consider us Poles central european because we don't "look" eastern european, if you know what I mean. I know a few Poles have that darker tint to their skin, but the majority of Poles are pretty much white and if you put a Pole in a room full of Germans, Frenchies, and Englishmen, you probably wouldn't be able to pick him out of the crowd.

The polish look slavic, they dont look nordic like myself. Polish and russians look the same. And you could point out a polish person because they will have a f*cked up haircut, bomber jacket and horribly cheap and nasty camo combat trousers.

fashion obviously doesnt exist in post communist poland. The polish girls in my work look differant from british girls. Polish girls are pretty but they do look differant. differant facial structure etc.

maybe thats why the nazis gassed so many poles until britain came and saved the day.

What do you look like ? (And you are British, not Skandi ?) I may look like more Skandi than you.

So you think that all the Poles look like the 2 you have seen one day ?? It's totally wrong. Have you ever been to Poland ? I don't think so. I go to Poland every year, and sometimes you can't tell if this guy is Polish or German for example. When you don't know what you're talking about, please sh*t up.
+ you seem a bit racist.

Go f*ck yourself. If Britain survived, you can thank Polish pilots that saved your British sky and land where you are now sitting in on your fat a.s.s insulting your history, f*cking ignorant. How can you keep saying such crap ?

the sole and only reason that britain got involved in the 2nd world war was to defend poland and stop them murdering millions of poles. Poland did very little as they were overun by germans in 1939. Germany was always adamant that they never expressed wishes to go to war with britain. but WE decl;ared war on germany to protect poland.

And you think poland made a huge contribution due to the handful of polish pilots lmao yeah right.

now britain, germanyand france is saving poland by giving handouts in the eu. Polands economy is increasing becuase of the handouts we give.

Oh and I have blonde hair and blue eyes.

and I see lotsof polish people in my area wearing second hand bomber jackets and camo trousers. Some one should give the polish a makeover.

its funny how someone mentions polands role in ww2 and the best that the poles can come up with is a handful of polish pilots flying british planes. Poland soldiers did very little in the 2nd world war except get killed.

at the end of the day britain saved poland and poland should be eternally grateful that we bothered. it is funny that nowdays poland is surviving on handouts thrown to them by germany and britain. germany was once killing poles and now they are feeding them.

Have you been to school ? Germany was not allowed to rearm. They did. They was not allowed to invade Austria and the Czech Rep., they did. They had to respect the Danzig corridor as it was said in the treaty. They didn't.
Poland, France and Great Britain had an alliance. The one who would be attacked, would receive help from its allies. Germany invaded the Czech Rep., and nobody moved. People was too afraid to have another big war.
Churchill said about France and Britain : "they chose disgrace rather than war. They are going to have both"

Poland had no army at that time. They just recovered their independence, and just started to rebuild the country. But at least, Poland never collaborated, unlike France.

Aha you're naive ! First they would invade all the continent. Then, when they would be strong enough, they would have invaded you as well.
Germany has an alliance with Russia. You know what happened, Germany attacked Russia.

The Poles contributed to the victory more than you think. They fought along English, French, Americans...Polish pilots helped Britain. Polish soldiers fought in Holland, in Norway, in many places. You know what : Britain has the chance to be an island, cause it was not as easy for the Germans to invade the UK, as it was for Poland. Poland who was attacked by both Germany and Russia ! They fought bravely, they knew they would loose. Britain wasn't attacked by Scotland or Wales, am i mistaken ??

If Britain, Germany and France have such good economies, it's thank to US money ! After the WW2, the USA helped Western Europe a lot, while Poland was behind the Iron Curtain.

Show some respect for those who fought and died. Do you think Britain saved Europe ? Are you this ignorant ?

It's amazing how dumb you are. It's very sad.

Nazis killed Poles as they killed Britains. Germans were not all nazis, and today has nothing to do with WW2.
What about slavery in the Commonwealth ? Britain used to kill slaves, today slaves descents are living with you, and there are no problem.

My last point about about Poland being Western Europe was a reference to a Political shift from the cold war years. Eastern Germany was always regarded as Eastern Europe, removal of the Berlin Wall and unification brought that part of the world into Western Europe (politically)

Poland's culture is location specific and tied to its geographical location and the influences of that region, regardless of whether it is East or West politically.

POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country?

Depends on the what period in history you live. Norman Davies has written a book called 'Microcosm' about Wroclow which shows how this city's history is a microcosm of the history of Central Europe. Thats central europe, not eastern.

I agree§ I'm talking about nowadays, not about 5 centuries ago. And today Poland is a Central European country (in my opinion, in most of Poles opinions ;)

I think it depends whether you agree that Central Europe exists between Eastern and Western Europe.
As far as the almost non-existant Northern / Southern debate goes, I'd place it in Northern Europe (but maybe Central).
As far as the Southern debate goes, there are lots of lovely women there.

Here is some of your own medicine: Britain sat around during WWII with their thumbs up their arses. Other than flying around in their planes and thus doing little more than creating a nuisance and of course puttering about in North Africa in old tanks, while Russia and the United STates did most of the work.
