I like your sense of humor Barx. laughing the whole time!! But hey, You say how you feel. Winter drags a person down and everything seems boring, gray and ugly. You need a vacation. You feel trapped with no way out and it's good you let it out of your system by telling us about it. It's not your home-country and it's not that easy to adjust to it.
So take one day at a time. Go back to England and relax and maybe you can convince your wife to come too. And if you don't love her, why agonize, get a divorce. You have to make yourself happy, no one will do it for you.

Barx, let me guess... Aside from your wife you don't have anybody here in Poland, right? All family members and friends are in London? Your wife lost her interest in socializing with other people, even with her friends? The only people that you actually meet from time to time are your father and mother in law, and alternatively, her cousins, aunts or uncles, that you don't actually like very much? Your wife concentrates more about having a baby in a near future rather than on partying hard? Yeah, I thought so.

Basically what you have to do is to convince your wife to go out more with you. Invite her to a theatre, opera, art gallery. Join some kind of painting, sculpture or bloody pottery making class. Basically engage in some activities together. I'm sure that somewhere along the way you will meet some great people that you can make friends with. Or...divorce your wife and go back to London. It's better to do it now, when there are still no kids... or is it too late? Either way, powodzenia.

It's all me me me with you isn't it Magic!

Actually, it sounds like you hit the nail on the head there. Nothing worse than being surrounded by strangers. Siege mentality, with the occasional trip to Tescos.

Good post, as always.

90% of Poles I know will say that they hate Poland and this country is really hopeless.

Let me guess, 90% of people you know are: atheists (hopelessness is rampant among people living without any spiritual fulfillment), homosexuals (despite calling themselves "gay" they are miserable due to social stigma because their immoral lifestyle isn't accepted by the society), feminists (again-dealing with social stigma) and some left wing liberals who would embrace any craziness in the name of political correctness and whine that their beliefs are at odds with the rest of Poland. Hopelessness, misery and affliction leads to alienation and this turns to hate towards Poland and fellow Poles.

Any advice, opinions.... abuse... anyone out there would care to throw at me? I'm at the stage now that even abuse would be greatfully received.

I've come to the conclusion that I hate this country. It's not just me feeling sorry for myself. This place has killed my inner child.

Here goes nothing. Barx, dude why don't you get the hell out of there?

These Poles whot complain about their country, complain about everything: the weather, the traffic, teenagers, politics, economy, etc. Take them to another country and see how fast they will be running back!!

I'm an Englishman (Anglik, Angol?) and I've been in Poland for nearly a year, after marrying a Polish girl.

I've come to the conclusion that I hate this country. It's not just me feeling sorry for myself. This place has killed my inner child.

I have come to the conclusion that I hate you!!! Go back to your crap island. I was in London and I walked for days and did not see an english man, all brownies!!! Why? Because all of your fellow englishmen are leaving that crap island. How dare you insult my Poland like that. Get off your fat english ass and do something worthwhile. Maybe you should have thought twice about marrying a polish girl. Maybe you should learn Polish and start to socialize. No social life in Poland? You must be out of your mind. Even when I go visit my village in the back woods, I always have a blast at the local bar. Get a life.

Maati you are waste of space. I am embarrassed to say I am Polish because of people like you. You have no respect for who you are and are a disgrace...

90% of Poles do not hate Poland. Just 90% of your loser friends say that. I think if you hate it Maati, then you should leave. We don't need you spreading your BS.

I see losers like Maati everyday on the news... Off to the UK to clean toilets!

Reporter: What are you doing after graduation?
Graduate Student: I am going to england, this country is terrible, its impossible to find a job!
Reporter: What was your major?
Graduate Student: Film
Reporter: Where did you look for a job?
Graduate Student: Oh, well, I didn't actually look for a job really. I didn't even try.

Typical dumb polak. Assume the worst about ones country... Off to the UK to clean toilets with your useless degree. I am sure you will be happy there.

you havent really given the place a chance then after a year ... maybe your heart wasnt in it in the first place when you agree to marry your polish wife and move to poland with her. Maybe you did this just so you didnt hurt her with the truth ... wonder what this affect of you being in this frame of mind is actually having on your wife?
have you even spoken to her about your fears and worthless in a country that has a lot to offer you just need to know where to look?

Telefonitika,

Even if it is the case it doesn't justify his senseless statements.

Whenever I say anything no very postive about UK( not nasty just little things...) I always meet with abuse here.

List of things to do.

To stimulate intellectual life .
1) Learn Polish (if you haven't already), or qanother language Russian perhaps.

2) Start online Open University degree. This will keep you busy and studying for something you want to do, not forced to do is fun.

3) Read, you can never read enough.

4) Buy 4X$ and go off roading at the weekend plenty of clubs.

5) Join Shooting club and go and shoot things, mabye learn to hunt. Tracking and slaying is great fun.

6) Go to the gym, get super fit.

7) Go to the football at the weekends and join in with the hooligan, get your frustrations out on someone elses face.

8) Play sport, squash, tennis.

9) take up a martial art.

10) Take up art classes.

Jesus man you live in the capital there is lots of **** to do.

Of course there are lots of things to do, Giles----he's just a whiney baby wanting a little attention and reason to sit on his a$$ so he doesn't have to put any effort in creating his own fun! I like your list, btw. Lots of good suggestions.

I can't wait to settle in Gdansk, I'm gonna touch down later this year for GOOD.
I've been shuttling back and forth for 5 year now and just can't wait to finally settle.

This missus and I were chatting about our move and since London is only a couple of hours flight I think we'll pop back at least once every other month to party with our friends. My cousin lives in Paris and we've got friends in barcelona and Amsterdam, so lots of places we can go for the weekend too in Europe. Brilliant.

Meanwhile since we shall be opening our buisness out their we will be really busy working, but when not working then I shall be going to Sopot and Gdansk to go PARTY.
My friend has promised to take me too his shooting club and I can go and support Arka Gydnia at the weekend and riot. I also intend to A) learn golf and B) Learn to Windsurf.

Poland isn't boring, its the person. Barx if all else fails just take drugs

(i would like to point out that in the process of giving such i advice, i by know means endorse the abuse of alcohol)

Oh balls to this i'm babbling !!! i'm going out for a skinful later.. Cheers !!
