True that. There have been UN Resolutions on Tibet since 1959.

Zgubiony:
Why didn't anyone protest when Chiner was selected to host?

As a matter of fact is that the dictatorship will exploit Olympic Games for their propaganda and convincing their citizens how the whole world loves and respects the Chinese regime. Those who awarded China to host the Olympic Games should have been aware of that before some 6-7 years ago... protesting and demonstrating 4 months before the beginning of the Olympics is only a useless circus... I am waiting more only that Richard Gere, Sharon Stone and Bruce Willis wear T-shirts "Tibet is not China", so that the circus can be complete.

At the same time, that "democratic" thinquiet, humanloving West don't have nothing against the Chinese market, they are pleased with 1.3 billion Chinese consumers and don't have nothing against construction of new factories in China, where people work 12 hours a day for 1 $ a day... then their "hand is firm" OK

The market reacts to the people in the West....who have tight pockets and prefer cheap chinese products to products manufactured in the west with higher cost due tariffs and labour rights...it's a malicious circle!

Everything starts at home....the more people decide to do small steps (boycotting "Made in China" for starters) the sooner the market will react.

You can not always blame some mysterious, faceless "West"..it's WE, the people!

It's worth remembering that this whole farce called "Olympic torch" was reincarnated just for Olympic Games 1936 year. And we all know that story...

I would never dare!

...contrary to you speaking of course for 1 Billion chinese, right?

But I can safely say that the majority agrees with me. And not only in Germany but in the whole of Europe:

Europeans View China as Biggest Threat to Global Security

Another interesting article:

THE DRAGON'S BLUNDER

URL

...The Chinese Communist Party had carefully organized the sequence of events down to the very last detail: a jubilant People's Congress in March, the triumphant arrival of the Olympic flame and, on Aug. 8, the gala opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics, with the key Western politicians in attendance. China's aim was to play the glamorous host, and it was intent on all of its guests marveling at the impressive Olympic facilities and admiring Beijing as a new international metropolis. Its plan was to present a manifestation of political power, reinforced, to the greatest extent possible, by athletic triumphs and a strong showing in the gold medal count. Look at us, China hoped to say, "we are back in the fold of the world's most important and modern nations, and we have moved up alongside the United States as a new world power. We are even the world's leader in some areas."

The Central Committee planners had thought of so many things in their campaigns to promote civility ("wenming"), even instructing Beijing residents to give up their habit of spitting in public and police officers to wave more pleasantly. But there was one thing the political calligraphers, in their obsession with detail, had ignored: the big picture....

To bad! :)

Hmmm....I might not give the Hitler salute in public nor may I deny openly that things like the Holocaust did happen so I think yes....we don't even have the death penalty and gays can marry here...Germany is one of the most liberal and open societies on earth.

(Yeah...well....they did cut down on smoking in public recently...so...not everything is perfect...but most non-smoker seem to prefer to get their meals non-smoked...so...)

What do you think about the death penalty for something like tax evasion as in China?

actually ,doing a spot of research there are demonstrations quite regularly in China, not anti government ones granted but many have demonstrated against for instance new factories and the resultant polution of rivers.

You asked a question and Mr B answered it...he then asked you a question and you were rather rude...I would reconsider how you speak to people if you want answers.

Yep and thats a more serious offence ;-)

Rights group Amnesty International says that based on media reports an estimated 1,010 people were executed in 2006 - more than 60% of global executions - but it described this number as only the tip of the iceberg
.

A British minister said that China should get a Gold at the Olympicsfor executing the most people in the world :)

I AM!

I would like to see a closing of shoulders in the West against the upcoming yellow threat rather today than tomorrow!

(It will be like against the Soviets - they have the masses but we have the brains and the technology...)
