Cafferty said in a TV show on April 9 that Chinese products were "junk" and the Chinese people were "basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they've been for the last 50 years".

I'll tell you why American supports the Chinese...1) the Rockefellers are big players in China on many levels, but primarily banking/investment/securities...who do you think Richard Nixon & Henry Kissinger were working for when they 'opened up' China?...for the 'good of humanity' and 'a new era in peaceful co-existence'?...think again, please...2) many 'American' companies like Wal-Mart are heavily invested in China...3) most important and immediate reason: China is, in a sense, subsidizing the war in Iraq through it's purchases and holdings of US Treasury Bonds.

Not all Chinese products are junk. Many good products are manufactured in China. Primarily, they come primarily from factories controlled by companies located in the democracies of the free world. Output is inspected to meet high standards. People like Medion, Sony, Panasonic, Texas Instruments, etc. free put their names on the products.

(OK, Pender, I know you'll say China is free, but not by our standards. The day a Tibetan can stand in a stadium and hold up a "Free Tibet" sign, you can say China is free.)

I found this article from "Wired" magazine (October 2007) to be rather interesting.
You should be careful what you say and do on China's internet.....someone is always watching you.

Beijing has recently added a new weapon to its arsenal of surveillance technologies, a system it believes to be a modern marvel: the Golden Shield. It took eight years and $700 million to build, and its mission is to "purify" the Internet — an apparently urgent task. "Whether we can cope with the Internet is a matter that affects the development of socialist culture, the security of information, and the stability of the state," President Hu Jintao said in January.

Who believes there are massive destruction weapon in Irap and cannot find any evidence? George Bush!!!
Who is behind the Guantanamo Bay prison? George Bush!!!
Who authorises the CIA to set up secret prisons for detainees in Europe? George Bush!!!

Who violates hunman rights? George Bush, Of course!!!
Who is the newest dictator is the world? George Bush, definitely!!!
Which country is a threat to the world? The U.S.A, surely!

Problems can be solved by force. This is George Bush! This is USA!

He may be an idiot, no dictator, he, Pender. He'll be gone after the next presidential election in November. The US wisely limits a president to two four year terms.

For some reason, the only person you can bring up is GWB. This isn't George Bush protesting the games...it's everyone!!

If your only answer to the questions asked is Bush this and that, than your government/news must be feediing you a lot of BS.

The world is bigger than that. The games should've never been held in China because it's too poluted, but I'm sure you can't even see that. I'm sure somehow Bush will be blamed.

How many protests did you attend when the Olympics were held in the USA? You know....if the USA were "diamond wimmers" of Human rights violations.

thank goodness, somebody else who says that the games should not be held in China, i can't believe how blind people are to all the issues that china has that could effect the games, including the point you just made about polution :)

Tornado do you think the games should be taken away from China and awarded to either Atlanta (Coca Cola Olympics) London, Kabul or Baghdad?

the USA

I wonder who will lead the medal table at the up and coming Olympics. I would bet a fair sum on China winning the most Gold's.

Heres the 2004 stats for the top 3:

USA Gold 35 Silver 39 Bronze 29 TOTAL 103
China G 32 S 17 B 14 63
Russia G 27 s 27 B 38 92

If by some fairly feasable reason China tops the medal table i think we can safley assume that the demise of the US as the leading super power is officially underway.

hey check out http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/olympics/overall/medaltable/1908/index.h tml
1908 we whooped, pretty bad since then though.

He simply followed his father's step. Do you agree the USA have already violated human rgihts by by setting up the Guantanamo Bay prison and secret prisons for detainees in Europe?

What if China follow the USA step? Will you condemn both USA and China?

They just dope their athletes more and better!
You must'n forget that in all totalitarian regimes the athletes are also soldier who fight for the glory of the party/fatherland/motherland/whatever....the bosses won't take any chances and risk a failure.

Dihydrotestosterone, anabolic steroids, erythropoietin and human growth hormones. All banned substances. All used by various members of the Chinese national swim team in the last 15 years.

China did not register among the world's swimming powers until the 1990s, and when they did, they did with a bang.

The country won four swimming gold medals at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and then took 12 of 16 women's titles at the 1994 world championships.

The team's sudden success fuelled suspicion of drug use, and by the next big competition, those hunches proved true.

Eleven athletes tested positive for dihydrotestosterone at the 1994 Asian Games. The big bust decimated the swim squad for the 1996 Olympics (they won just one gold), but soon enough the Chinese were back on top again. Not for long, however.

Four positive tests before the 1998 world championships along with the vials of the human growth hormone found in breastroker Yuan Yuan's luggage before the worlds signalled that doping was still thriving in China's pools.

Though the country maintained there was no systemic doping on its swim teams, the statistics say otherwise.

Over 40 Chinese swimmers since 1990 have failed drug tests. That's triple the amount of any other swimming country during the same period of time.

After pressure from FINA, swimming's governing body, China's swim association promised stricter drug testing and higher penalties for cheats.

Just before the 2000 Sydney Olympics, China removed four swimmers from its team because of "suspicious" drug test results.

Chinese swimmers were rarely on the podium in major competitions until the 2003 world aquatic championships in Barcelona. There, the women's team collected seven swimming medals, including three gold.

Whether those swims were clean or not, China's young swimmers will have to compete under a cloud of suspicion for years to come due to the generation of cheaters before them.

Do you think the stimulant examination experts from the USA are ignorant? They donot have the know-how and instrument to find out whether athletes take stimulant or not?

Or the job of checking stimulant is ONLY performed by Chinese team? You are lack of common sense!

HELLO! Why do you keep focusing on the USA? The rest of the world is protesting. Communists always seem to point the finger at the most feared.

Plain and simple. CHINA IS TOO POLLUTED TO HOLD THE GAMES. POLITICS ASIDE.

The USA always boasts itself is the best in the world. It issues human rights reports annually. It seems the record of USA is perfect. Do you agree?

If the USA is NOT perfect, how can you expect other countries, such as China, is perfect?

I am very surprised to hear it. The environment of China, not only Beijing but also other industrial cities, is improving with each passing day. And mind you: the air condition in Beijing is quite different in different seasons.

In my opinion, yes. It's going to be a real problem with the endurance sporting events. They did say sth about cutting down on factory emmissions prior to the games starting.

Maybe the Olympics should be held in Antarctica, the air is the best in the world.

I find it laughable how professor's spout off about how international environmental law is such an exemplar of greatness when one of the world's biggest countries can't even reduce emissions satisfactorily. The pollution levels may be exaggerated tho
