Really ?...

Really Really

Steve McClaren has been sacked as England coach following his side's failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

Assistant coach Terry Venables has also lost his job in what the Football Association said was a unanimous decision by its board.

I wish I got 2million in compo if I got the sack, he cant complain.

I hope we take our time and get it right this time. The next England match is not until March (vs France) so we have the time to consider it fully.

Thanks for all the interesting commentary! When I left the office yesterday it was the 67th minute and Poland was up 2-zip, so I thought they'd win outright. But I'm delighted to hear that they took their group and will head to the games for the first time - outstanding! Go Polska!
Now I'm off to see family and eat hearty, thankful for this lot.

I can't see why they didn't give McLaren the job until Euro 2008, with a clause that it would be extended for 2 further years on qualification !

The amount of money that is being given out on compensation is sickening ! If McLaren had resigned himself he probably wouldn't have got the pay-off .... he waited to get sacked and therefore was entitled to pocket a cool £2.5

How much did Sven get when he left ?

wow,i saw mc laren today.man is devastated.somehow i feel sorry for him.he is a patriot, england is too harsh.
and now we have bloody russians all over us,they praise us like gods and calling us slavic brothers.which is rather insulting for us.
we aren't they brothers.we played football, and we won for ourselves, not for russia in any case.

Haha, peace ;) One goal less for Croatia (so a draw) would have qualified England, and eliminated Russia, it's all your fault ;P

i can't feel sorry for him .... he walks away with £2.5 ... he has just bought himself a luxury villa in the carribean where he's going to spend the next few months .... not bad for the worst England manager in recent times !!

How to improve English football ....I would start by getting rid of all the old codgers at the FA ..... what does Brian Barwick know about football ..... get someone who has played the game .... managed ... or at least been involved with football at a high level.

Even Jimmy Hill would be a better option than what is there presently !!

yes,but we certainly didn't played for russian interests.some people say we played because russians are our slavic brothers.that's bullsh... we played football.and that's an insult for our country, because we aren't anybodys mercenaries.
russia didn't deserved to qualify too, last game against andorra-1:0 in last 5 min.
we scored 14 goals to andorra in 2 games.
so my opinion uis that israel showed what pride and fair play means.

and it's a damn disgrace that Croatia, nation of 4.5 milion decides about destiny of 150 milion Russians in euro qualifyers.Or 50 milion English.
anyway i'm eager to see how hiddink will organise russian team,he's a hell of a manager.

Bravo to Croatia (especially to their National Soccer Association Board) that they didn't accept 4 Mercedes offered by a Russian billionaire for the win against England.

I'm not so sure PZPN would be so thoughtful if something similar was to happen.

They certainly should be or they will be lynched by the Poles!!!

I have no idea why those bloody biliboyz always need to flaunt their cash like this since it is clear that no one (i.e. foreign national team) could DARE accept the 'magnanimous incentive' without totally destroying their image...

Ok i think there is one point that everybody has forgotten about Poland and the Qualification for EURO 2008. Everybody knows that the players have done well and played sometimes out of their skins and won important matches.

The support from the fans has been there as always. However if you look at England for example what was our weakest link, our manager, in the same way your manager has been your strongest link.

Leo Beenhakker is the number 1 reason why you guys have qualified for EURO 2008. before wth Pawel Janas Poland looked like the lost boys and did nothing but embarrass themselves at the world cup finals in 2006. However under the new man Beenhakker Poland not only have played well but have been well organised and actually look like they know what there doing.

Beenhakker has structured the team around their strong points and best players and molded other players in who fit the system and are not the ones all the fans would pick first. I believe that without Beenhakker you guys would probably have finished third or even fourth in your qualification group.

So its my view that Leo Beenhakker is your man of the qualification for EURO 2008

ok Leo is greate but you should notice that we were on WC in Korea and Germany without him ... honestly last time our team was playing well in qualifications...

but I have to admit that Leo was the best choice ;)

as to England I m really surprised ...

I think one of the best point about Leo is that every game Poland plays, is for victory, and not just for a draw......i don't know what it was like with Janas...

it will be interesting who gets the job once he is asked to resign ..... Mourinho ??

Quoting: Polson
Mourinho said he would never be the coach of another country than Portugal...

Maybe Mourinho has had a change of heart with regards the England job - English newspaper reports that Mourinho would consider taking the England job.

Mourinho said 'Tell the FA to come and get me. We will have to wait and see,but I rule nothing out'

Even though many would prefer to see an English manager of their national team Bobby Robson has said that reluctantly he believes none of the domestic runners are up to the job.

Is there no Englishman/Scotsman/Welshman/Irishman capable of successfully managing the English national football team ??
