The Poles are Coming documentary

This documentary is aired in the UK on BBC2 channel at 9pm on Tuesday 11th March .... lets syncronise watches and compare notes after the show has finished airing ... not that we dont see a daily debate to which will be covered in the documentary on a regular basis here on the PF ... but be interesting to know what you all thought .... !!!

According to this and a few other papers the Polish are gradually returning home

yes it is from the adverts i have seen ... it shows same sort of opinions found daily on this forum to be honest the good and the bad ... which is why i will be watching



they do and upto a few days after as well as you can play catch up on programs i do :)

I'd be surprised if it's a 'balanced' account. They'll be going for maximum sensationalism to attract higher ratings. The fact remains, that most decent people that have met Poles in the UK have nothing but respect and admrationof them. How many of the lazy scroungers in this country would have the balls to 'up stcks' and get a plane to get a better paid job.

BTW, Yes St George, I'd like a large fries with that!

Dam i missed the show i so meant to watch it, i was watching a movie called 'home of the brave' what was it like PD?

it is on bbc i player to watch if you missed it ............

i watched it and took notes focuses on PETERBOROUGH area only in particular the New England area of the city .....

At the turn of the last century America had Ellis Island at the turn of this century Britain has Victoria Station (a quote of dialogue from the documentary)

most eastern europeans (this was the term used alot) work in tescos .. building work .. packing and picking

Primary area focused on a street called Lincoln Road ... Spoke to the local councillor Charles Swift of the New England ward who seemed to have changed his views and opinions of immigration since the 1970's when he welcomed immigrants to Peterborough due to the overwhelming numbers the area had government unofficial figures est. 160.000 in this area he claims they is some 20-30.000 more Eastern European immigrants in the area

Focused also on the Gdansk area and the workforce there is now made up of women doing the mens jobs as one polish woman put it "Women can get a job easy as all the men have left"

17-25 year old females are being trained as firefighters as there is a shortage of firefighters ..

the shipyard is now employing koreans and chinese in place of the polish workforce that as soon as trained apparently are leaving to work in the West (France/Uk/Scotland and Germany were mentioned)

Bogden Oleszek featured on the documentary as did Lech Walesa(and again his love of woman didnt go unnoticed by me as he is quoted saying "i do not pay attention to him (bogden) but his wife she is beautiful)

English people are also regarded as being lazy and want to claim benefits ... and Marusz says he is in no hurry to return to Poland after arriving in the UK a few days earlier and admires English tolerance ...

Most common complaint "foreigners taking our job" yet the english that were interviewed outside a JCP (Jobcentre plus building) who were all male ... when given opportuntity to work the next day picking in a field for 10 hours at £7+ an hour .. turned their noses up at it and scoffed would rather sign on instead ... whilst one cracked one a can of "wifebeater" (stella artois for those that dont know)

Not that great. Sort of a poor mans Louis Therioux kind of thing.
Gdansk looked great.
Focussed a lot on other people from baltic states, Cz and Slovenia
Followed a mans journey from Poznan to England ( poor guy looked like he left his dentures at home ).

Didnt focus for too long on any positives.
The bit about the Cz guy sleeping under a bush looked like it was made for the camera.

That's exactly what I thought.

Didnt think it was that good either although it did highlight some of the problems a lot of Eastern Europeans face when moving now especially the overcrowding of houses. I have heard of 10 people living in a three bedroom house here in Athlone which certainly can't be healthy.

Also I thought it was very good to see how those young brats declined the jobs picking vegetables but still blame foreigners for taking jobs.Although we can't really be sure whether or not that was done for the camera.

One thing I enjoyed though was the new firebrigade of Gdansk. They could come to my rescue anytime :-)

Watched it last night, them chavs were pathetic...deport 'em.

The points raised I found interesting and quite funny were:

When he was speaking to the guy in the car and said guy was saying how bad the area had gone - when asked if it was the Poles he said "no it’s the Brits the Poles are fine hard working decent people"

When he was in the British club thingy and a Ms Patel was saying that immigration should be stopped from European countries and she nearly said Asian countries too but stopped short.......hmmmm was I missing something there?

When he was outside the Job Centre and British scrotes seem to think they are above a hard days work - FFS - one of the foreigners who are steeling jobs was earning £2k a month....slightly above minimum wage I would say...oh and apparently Poles work for
50p

Whilst it was quite tongue in cheek in some parts, it certainly showed that without migrant workers we would have problems...

Im still wondering why they gravitate to that sh$thole Peterborough...yuk!

An enlightening bit was also when the mayor(?) of Gdansk came over to England to try and convince the room full of Poles to come back to Poland as there would be jobs for them. Their reaction was a bit more negative than he was expecting I think. They saw straight through him when he couldnt give them any definites rather than generalities.

The big difference between living in England and going back to Poland for most of these guys was this key point. England definitely has jobs and a minimum salary, Poland, at the moment, can only offer maybes. The Poles were pragmatic about this and cynical about any promises made by a Polish politician.



It was also funny to think that these chavs were looking down on Polish farm workers however these farm workers had stepped above them in the general pecking order of British society. One of the Poles had two cars and its funny to think of him driving to work past the chav walking to the employment agency. Its plain to see whose children will be achieving more in 10-15 years.

That guy was acutally Lithuanian and not Polish - but I know what you mean, it really doesnt bode well, the work ethic of young men in this country leaves a lot to be desired..

Who would take them?

Good point - can we just shoot them for fun instead???? Give the grouse a rest and shoot srotes instead :))))

I don't think the grouse and chav shooting seasons overlap so we should be OK.

I've got an idea for increasing the flammability of tracksuits if anyones interested? The slightest spark and WHOOSH!

Ofcourse, no one intervieuws the English guys and girls who DO want to take every job they can get, because that would make it all too painfully clear wouldn't it?
