Why do Poles drink so much?

Can I ask one questions and I am the first person to enjoy a cold beer, why do poles drink so much?? and enjoy "getting stuck in the grog"

I think they drink less and less, actually (compared to the last 50 years). Poles take care more of themselves, try to eat better food, and lead a healthier lifestyle. Beer is more preferred than vodka. Also, I noticed many beers in small bottles (0.25 L) compared to the "original" Polish bottles (0.5 L). So there positive signs there.

I hope so. the reason why the size of the bottles have been reduced was not to improve the health of the polish people;

I haven't been in Poland since 2002. Poles seem to drink less indeed. Maybe I'm wrong though

lef i dont know when yuo were last time in poland but after reading a few of your posts i think you are talking BS.you said you have made a lot of friends in poland but i just wonder what kind of friends they are. they must be losers,moaners,arse-lickers spitting at their own country unable to do anything with their lifes.this is probably why they drink too much(do you drink with them?).POLES do NOT drink much compared to other western-type countries.lets take enghland.when you walk downtown on friday night you see hundreds drunk people often fighting and smashing things-i don't belive that austraLIA is any BETTER.the only difference is that we get drunk on vodka,you on whiskey or bourbon or alcoholic drinks.
there is a problem with our health care system-but others have it too including such a rich country like the UK. they have not enough:nurses,docs,beds in hospitals,hospitals and hygene in hospitals is not up to standards(MRSA bug)
the cost of drink has gone down;0.5 bottle of vodka used to cost 20-22zl now you can get it for as little us 13zl
beer-2-3zl now 1,5zl in supermarket
home made brew used to be popular now it is easier to pop in to the local shop/supermarket-of course there are some people who do it but not so many like 10 years ago.it is strange that your friends don't understund your sarcastic tone when you talk

Yes, I think these are sale figures (how else they would be able to measure it otherwise). They should have noted, then, that a reasonable number of Poles go to the Czech Rep or Slovakia to buy cheaper spirits .

Australia is a nation of binge drinkers, with hazardous drinking particularly common in young adults.

Researchers found that more than two-thirds (67 per cent) of alcohol consumed is drunk in a way that is dangerous to health — through heavy binges or by drinking more than 5 days a week.

But hazardous drinking was particularly common in the 18-24 years age group. Drinking that would cause acute or chronic health problems accounted for 93 per cent of all alcohol drunk by men in that age group, and for 82 per cent of young women.

By comparison, 41 per cent of alcohol consumed by those aged 65 or over would cause acute or chronic health problems, the researchers wrote in the Medical Journal of Australia (2002;176:91-92).

Lead author and director of Perth's National Drug Research Institute Professor Tim Stockwell said that contrary to previous beliefs, this research showed that high-risk drinking was extremely common and involved more than just a small number of problem drinkers.

nothing wrong with drinking (I'm on my 10th beer now) ha ha it becomes a question of affordability and health risk.

Doctors tell us that that having 2 standard drinks per day ie 2 glasses of wine or beer is the maximun you should have, binge drinking refers to 10 or more standard drinks in one session.
As we all know having two drinks would'nt even touch the sides and I doubt any pole would stop at having only two drinks.

Although alcohol and drug abuse is rife in all western countries accessibility is a big issue, In Australia alcohol is cheap (in relation to wages) and is not limited to beer and spirits, wine is very, very popular and cheap.
Alcohol is not expensive to produce, it is what government tqke out in tax duty.

The price of alcohol came down in poland because of national cry out, as governments tried to cash in on drinkers, undoubtedly when thinks get better in poland so then will the government put up alcohol taxes.
The price of cigarettes in poland shoud be doubled, half going to hospitals to care for patients suffering from smoking relating diseases.. This is the case in Austalia.

From my information drug and alcohol abuse in country poland is cronic at the moment, which is leading to increase assaults and robberies

The above is true, but I personally like a bit of culture and cheap beer and fags was not the reason I went to Poland....good food, history and fab climate was. of course teh above is a bonus





We have a large influx of people from other countries, so this might have something to do with the stats....or are you referring to Brits abroad??? who cant handle the local brewe!

well when i was in poland last year in brzeg, i saw a lot of drunk people out on the streets, they werent bothering anyone or anything but they were sure as hell drunk. It was my first time in poland since i left for the states and when i got back and told my mom about what has happened to her town she said that its always been like that so, i dont think that we drink too much, but when we do drink we like to get drunk.
