Poles leave Britain to return to Poland

The Polish boom in emigration to the UK is coming to an end according to figures released by the British Home Office.

Thousands of Poles stormed to the UK as a result of the opening of the British job market in 2004. Today the Polish population in Britain is estimated at between 400,000 to a million, but according to the latest UK Home Office statistics, it is on the decrease as Poles are coming home.

They say they are receiving only half the number of job applications compared with the years 2005 and 2006.

Is Poland doing anything to cause them to return to PL? Wasn't the PL gov't planning to do sth to make home more attractive to the people that left? Is this the result?

Small article here.

Yes, but sth was supposed to be proposed. I can't seem to pinpoint where I heard this.

Exactly the same happens in the US. That's why I'm surprised to hear it's the same in the UK where some Polish people from the US migrate. I think it's still a temporary behaviour - Poles like being with their families on Christmas, for example. In summer the trend will stop and more Poles will work in the UK.

beer in pub costs about 5-7 PLN(1,5-2 EUR) , cheesburger in McDonald costs less than 1EUR, you can eat dinner for 2,5 EUR (cantine). What is most important you are home ...

It is an English expression for the Germans and comes from World War 2. The Germans produced a really good fuel container which the British had not seen before the desert campaign and the British started to copy it and so it was called a 'Gerry can'.

new article Financial Times

http://ft.onet.pl/0,9440,half_of_east_europe_migrants_go_home,artykul_ ft.html

Half the central and eastern European nationals who came to work in Britain in the four years since EU enlargement have returned home, according to new research suggesting that fears of an ever-expanding migrant population are unfounded.

It's interesting Poles come back to Poland in spring. But in spring everything is more optimistic, people wear pink glasses, moronic things don't bother so much.....

However, half of those who come back today will return by the end of the year when everything, including the weather, gets depressing.

I am of an opinion that the bigger reasons, why polish people comes back to Poland are: It's too many differences of cultures (it might be problematic; people from different countries like france, Italy, Greece, Spain, Czech Rep. etc think the same).
A lot of emmigrants are making the background for a stereotipes, and the stereotipes cause some opinion about emigrants- that might be as a pain on the neck for emigrants. It's difficult to live in a foreign country and to be not liked by some of the people, who tells strange thinks of stereotypical background.
Next reason is, cos it's a country where is really difficult to socialize to the people.
Here's a lot of schedules in work, and the style of work is not flexible- that's difficulty for a lot emmigrants.

I think that UK is a country, which gives a lot opportunities to improve, earn money, do some qualifications, learn english language.

To be in this place is a good opportunity to learn a lot :)

I have heard of many people (Brits) who have already left Britain, and this is due to the present Labour government and their policies.

I for one will be very pleased to see the back of U-turn Brown and the rest of his cronies and will welcome the Conservatives, but whether they can do much to put right the mess that Labour has created is doubtful - Labour has really brought this country to its' knees .... and it will take a long time to put it right !

Anyhow, it will be another year at least before we see a General Election, so we have to see how much more damage Labour can inflict in the meantime !
