I do think it could be a LOT worse PD - I just hate how the stupid comments and how it affects them in the workplace (and also where I work it seems to be *constant* and exhausting to hear because it's so frustrating... I may sow their mouths up one day... ;)

Well Sofi, I don't like to hear this. Maybe a needle and thread is required in this case. If it is constant and exhausting then maybe the 'big' boss needs to hear about this. I know our directors wouldn't stand for this...

Where I work, we just can't get the natives in through the gate to work any more. They used to get jobs, then complain about getting dirty. 'Oooh it's too difficult,' or 'Oh no it's raining'. Obviously, not all of them, but...

Partly, if you're prepared to leave your own country and work in a foreign land, you are one of those people who gets off their arse and grafts. This shows some people up, they feel threatened, so they take the easy option and blame those who work hard.

I don't know what people say about my Polish colleagues because I get on well with them and I'm frequently heard attempting to communicate with them in Polish. Some of my fellow Britons are possibly also intimidated by my ability to get on and learn.

Blimey! I've just written a flippin' essay!

And these are the same jobs in London that some British are complaining about.

Very much so and I work from personal experience. Laundry/domestic/kitchen jobs in my place actually pay a reasonable rate but I have personally interviewed Scottish/British people who actually have told me there's no point in continuing with the interview after I have detailed the work and rate of pay.

I rely on Polish people to help me fill these positions, I'd be completely stuck without them - that statement doesn't sound PC but it's correct.

Do employers in the UK have laws similar to Americas 'Equal Opportunity'?

My friends know that if it ever comes to them needing anyone to stand by them - I am there without question in their defence against this. And I speak out so often against the inane comments. Thing is, I realise myself that it would be quite impossible to change a whole workforce-full of opinions, especially as I cannot really see anyone backing up what I would tell as being true. But in the meantime, trying to counter their claims and silly comments and such things seems about the best thing to do.

All the local kids want is gap years and an easy life. But then, in Hertfordshire, there are far too many spoilt brats!

Not sure how that works, but my firm employ people on ability and not nationalty. This, I think and I hope is normal and the way the law states.

lmao even my interviewer tried to persuade me to get a better job, said I was wasting myself and if I was hhis daughter he wouldn't let me --so mine is considered one of those jobs too, yeah.

I certainly know what you're talking about. I hear this in my work - people saying "you get on so well with all the Polish people" but I alway reply "no, I generally just get on with 'people'. I am interested in 'people' therefore I will always make an effort to get on with anyone".

Besides, if it wasn't for the help of Polish people in my work my learning of the language would have screeched to a halt!

Its right, what it means is that they can't not offer you a job because of age/nationality/sex/disability unless the post offered is exempt from this. If there is an exemption it would be clearly stated in the job advertisment.

As I have said, if people are threatened by Polish workers being more adaptable and hard working, in my recent experience, they can start to shun you for their own pathetic, xenophobic reasons. Even if you've always got on with everyone in the past.

That's up to them and, quite frankly, if that's what they feel then they are not worth a sh*t.

back to the topic:

Poles the victims of new racism, how many times do i hear the race card been played, this gets worse and worse and worse, one or two people get beaten up and just becuase there Poles it must be racist. If there were to Scot's attacked in Poland do you think it would be viewed the same, i don't think so do you :)

get over the Polish victim thing, Everybody is picked on at some point in their lives and unfortunately some or hurt seriously both physical and mentally. I do not condone the types of actions described on this topic of course not but to put it down to racism is narrow minded and paranoid :)

everybody on here, well most of you are clever enough surely to see that
