Stupid Americans made it to the moon, haven't seen any Limeys there lately?

These "stupid" Americans, not only made it to the moon but also gave the world

1. Light bulb,
2. Airplanes,
3. Mass produced cars,
4. Telephone,
5. TV
6. Air-conditioning and refrigeration
7. Nuclear technology
8. Computers, PCs
9. Internet
10. Tom Cruise

For that last one we profusely apologize.

PS1. Oh, yeah – and about 80% of Nobel prizes each year!

PS2. We also gave the world saying: “Can’t we all just get along?” – Thank you, Mr. Rodney King! :)

Telephone

Alexander Graham Bell was Scottish. I think he spent much of his life in Canada.
He once complained about the continual, irritating ringing of his telephone.

Tom Cruise

They can keep him.

The light bulb was invented by Joseph Swan. Englishman.
TV. Scotsman
Telephone. Scotsman
Internet. Englishman
Airplanes ? I think you mean powered flight.

The rocket used to power the Americans to the moon was developed from German Technology
Also, I seem to remember, but could be wrong, that it was the Germans who came up with nuclear energy first

3. Mass produced cars,

Hmmmm....not sure even this is correct......

So that leaves you with nukes and T Cruise....................not bad ....lol

But as a nation......the gud ol' USA is way down the international league of the relative indices of health, education and a whole raft of what the world believes is best!

PS But there are very few places that get it right!

As far as I know the Americans can claim the microwave oven as one of their own inentions.
I like the Polish invention of the rubbery bits on windscreen wipers. (There I go trusting information from the internet again).

Alexander Graham Bell was Scottish.

Hmmm... here is a quote from Wiki:

"Alexander Graham Bell (3 March 1847 - 2 August 1922) was a Scottish scientist, inventor and innovator. Throughout his early life, Alexander Graham Bell was a British subject but in 1915, he characterized his status as: "I am not one of those hyphenated Americans who claim allegiance to two countries." Despite this declaration, Bell has been claimed as a "native son" by Canada, Scotland and the United States.[1] Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, he immigrated to Canada in 1870, and then to the United States in 1871, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1882."

So I guess we are all correct! Once again, mr. Rodney King was right "Can't we just all get along?"

Just so happens, that I was in one of his laboratories just last week. He built this one together with his friend, Henry Ford, I think in Florida, next to his vacation home. Latter they moved it to Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

in the uk we largely claim to be from the country we were born and raised in, unlike americans who claim heratige from countries that some ancestor was born and raised in... but only going back as far as it suites them... otherwise theyd all be african and that could be awkward for some

Wikipedia:
"Henry Ford (July 30, 1863 – April 7, 1947) was the American founder of the Ford Motor Company and father of modern assembly lines used in mass production. His introduction of the Model T automobile revolutionized transportation and American industry. He was a prolific inventor and was awarded 161 U.S. patents. As sole owner of the Ford Company he became one of the richest and best-known people in the world.
(...)
Ford was born on July 30th, 1863, on a farm next to a rural town west of Detroit, Michigan (this area is now part of Dearborn, Michigan). "
Now honestly: why does it make so much difference to you guys?

It does matter to me. You are trying to change history.

Have another look at your list, do a Google and see how wrong you are.

And it is you who was trying to make a point when you made the list. I am simply pointing out your errors.

Henry Ford's grandfather John left famine-stricken Ballinscarthy, near Clonakilty, West Cork, with his family for America in 1847. Ford ancestors had been evicted from land in Somerset, England.........gee another displaced Englishman via Cork, Ireland!

But its ok....we don't mind giving him to ya......we got plenty more to share...:)

I guess i should thank every american i meet for the lightbulb.

There were over 20 inventors of incandescent lamps prior to Edison. It all started with Humphry Davy (Royal Institution of Great Britain) who created the first incandescent light over 70 years before Edison. The light was a bit on a dim sid but the firt steps were made.

In 1874 Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans (Canada) patented an improved electric light bulbs and patented the invention (US Patent 181613). The patent was bought by Thomas Edison who obtained exclusive rights to Canadians' patent. Edision made further improvements to the bulb's design and to commercial production.

Edison's contribution: he made an existing product better. Much like the white borsch I cook is better than my mom's. Pitty I can't patent a soup :)

it wasn't for the american guy I used to know I wouldn't be using the internet

That started with a Spanish guy in 1775 Francisco de Salva (electrostatic telegraph). hThen there was a bunch of Germans on the communication side and a Brit who is considered the forst computer programmer (Ada Byron). Americans came later :)

Now, that's kinky :)

It's not just about 'invention' - it is also about selling it. Some places are better for this than others.

What is the topic here? Why Americans claim all that others have done as our own or why we will willingly give up Tom Cruise?

But I'm pretty sure that John Gorrie created the air-conditioning near Apalachicola, Florida! If he didn't, someone made a mistake in creating a museum for him there... I think he actually was trying to create an icebox and came up with air-conditioning... Something we don't need right now!
