sorry my dear, Polka it is then :)

No problem :)
Pole is just so asexual (and I'm supposed to be a feminist :p)

No it doesn't, because those topics are actually worthwile discussing and learning about. Talking about racism and how "bad" it is in Poland is hypocritical indeed, as the same problem probably exists in both your countries as well.
Tornado, the UK has had horrible racist driven crimes lately... Poles racism is much more innocent, more likely driven by curiousity. Like for example, an old Pole sees a black man for the first time in his life.. of course he will stare at him. Wouldn't you? That isn't exactly racist..

The topics are worthwhile discussing according to whom? So its okay to complain about the way that Polish people are treated in other countries but its not okay to complain about how Polish people treat others in Poland?

Yes, there definitely is racism in Canada today but the government actually tries to put a stop today, and racial slurs are generally condemned. Poland isn't the only country in Europe thats racist,( not even close! - I could go on and on about Germany and Italy) however, the topic of this particular thread is the racism in Poland. I do believe that Poland has this more deeply ingrained than does Canada or even the UK. Why pretend its not there? It just sounds counter-productive to me.

how can you be a feminist with so many men in the world just waiting to please you and make you the happiest girl alive, man i can't imagine hating women and its not just a sexual thing. There is just something you get from women that you can't get from men.

exactly how much whinning do you hear about 'poland betrayed' and 'polish child beaten' etc etc, its ok then you hear all the voices. As soon as you mention something about Poland, then straight away its denial and, forget it don't discuss it :)

he he.. yeah, "generally condemned" racial slurs. I have never heard a racial slur come out of the mouth of a Pole actually, and I visit twice a year, and have my dads family living there. From what I heard, America and Canada and most of all, the UK, have a problem with controlling that because of the influx of immigrants. Poland doesn't have that problem, hopefully never will, and I don't see a reason to talk about it.
What goes on in Poland is Polands problem, not some British and Canadian problem. Poles can do whatever they please, its their own damn country.

Who is pretending? I have seen it, and well, what I have seen is very innocent in comparison to what happens in the West.
Counterproductive to whom? To the Western media who are looking for an attractive story headline?

You've never heard a Polish person utter 'murzin' or 'mosiek' or something about tzyganki? And there are plenty more. I've even seen murzin in a Polish TV Show not that long ago.
"and hopefully never will", interesting, you don't like the idea of immigrants coming to Poland?

What goes on in Poland is Polands problem, not some British and Canadian problem. Poles can do whatever they please, its their own damn country.

Thats good because as a dual citizen, I can complain about Poland's racial problem all I want.
Aren't you half Polish? Technically, I'm more Polish than you (100% if thats even possible, and born there) :)

Europe is part of the 'West'.
Canada is pretty bad with the Natives, there's no denying it. Just like there's plenty of racism to go around in Poland.

Its not about hating men, its about being equal.....but dammit, I don't want to be a Pole, I want to be a Polka! lol

Just because you're a feminist doesn't mean you can't be feminine, I say. It's about equality, understanding that we're different but still being treated the same.

As far as racism in Poland, I suppose I can't say. But there are racist people everywhere, why would Poland be any different. For my part I can say that America is maybe the most racist country on Earth. I surely hope that no country is worse than the US in this field. There are 350 million people here and many different cultures and peoples so racism is bound to happen. I love a America, I really do, but it's racist as hell. It's as bad now as it was 60 years ago, don't let any one fool you. As for Poland, historically, she has been as tolerant as any nation but that doesn't mean she's devoid of racism and to think otherwise is irresponsible. Poland may be better than anywhere else but she certainly isn't perfect. And don't we all want perfection? Shouldn't we all try for a world with zero racism? And Poland certainly fails that test.

hi
i am black and i live in wroclaw. i want to apologise on behalf of my black brothers for what ever type of racist attitude they have shown towards you but i have to say that some polish people are pretty racist too. and sometimes my black brothers are just reacting to you the same way they were reacted to. i am not racist but i recieve racist attitude all the time and its really bad but that doesnt make me racist. example i was looking for an apartment, i found one, called the landlord but he didnt allow me rent the aprtment because i am black. no other reason, just because of my skin color. well life has to go on. nobody choose what family he or she was born into but i tell you anytime that i am proud to be black. i would like to meet non racist polish guys like you for some drinks sometime.
do have a nice time

That's true but America still has a horrible racism problem.

This is only half true. The "KKK" kind of racist is a dying breed (Thank God) but racism has morphed into a more sneaky, subtle entity. It lives in the media, and in the criminal justice system, and in hiring practices. People want to believe that racism is gone but it isn't. I wish this wasn't the case, but America is as bad as it was 60 years ago.

Sorry, I didn't read all the posts in here, but I'm a caucasian from Brazil and I'm of Italian descent. I have greenish eyes, freckles, dark blond hair and pale sometimes rosy skin. . . In Brazil where the vast majority of the people are either black or brown being white is a disadvantage, I'd say. Funny thing is, I never had any black friends because I studied in very expensive school and lived in white neighborhoods but I saw many on the streets, and those were always shouting offensive words about me, why? Because of my skin color. Now. . . I never really dared to wear a mini-skirt and the likes because I didn't want to see people laughing and pointing at me for being white . . yes I am as white as snow, you can see my veins through my skin and this seem to bother people in my native country a lot. If I'd try to called someone ugly names because of their skin color, I'd be in trouble so why blacks and mestiços can call me ugly because of my skin/eye/hair color? Even though, I don't hate them, I just wonder why is that. . .Jealousy? Do they feel somehow inferior? As soon as I entered a place everyone would stare at me thinking I was from someplace else but Brazil, that's ridiculous, some would try to make conversation trying to speak English with me, can you believe this?! I remember how I used to feel ashamed of being white, but today I love my skin. :)
I lived in Poland over 2 years and I'm very very very happy about the fact that I CAN WEAR A MINI-SKIRT in there, on the streets of Poland because I know people would NOT be shouting at me things like "You skanky white *****". I feel also great here in the U.K as well because most of the people are like me. WHITE as hell!
I'm not racist at all, I just never had black friends and so on, to me they just exist.
Polish people might be racist, just like some Brazilians or Italians are.
I feel good in Europe because I was never discriminated against for being white. In Brazil they would just tell me "The Sun is for all" :(

so that was my 50 cents!
By the way, I love being white and I think white people are so beautiful and I married a blue-eyed blond man from Poland :D (that's just preference, btw)
Still I 'm not racist! See? :)

I think all of us(whites and blacks) can go along with each other, sometimes is possible, sometimes it just ain't. . . that's sad :(
one thing I tell " Never apologize for being white " and racist people are everywhere.

Sorry Ingrid, but I`m also caucasian from Brazil (probably not as white as you) and can`t disagree more with you. Unfortunetely in Brazil white people are still privileged. You will find plenty of black people working as mades, builders, rubish collectors, etc, and in other hand it will be hard to find one who is not white working as doctors, lawyers, dentists, etc...
In Brazil we just like tanny skin... that`s all.

So Obama's chances are the same now as they would have been in 1948? (I think he would have had trouble even getting a seat on a bus!!)

I'm not saying that some things aren't better but some things are much worse. There's this perception that Dr. King came and fixed everything and we don't have racism anymore when it's alive and well and THRIVING. Saying that my statement is the most ridiculous of the year (an odd award to be given out in May) underlines my point, that people in America pretend that racism isn't a problem when it's the biggest problem we have. What good is a seat on the bus if you are mocked, stereotyped, and degraded while sitting?

Brazillians are not white, the brazillians who identify themselves as white in brazil are as mixed race as the black population. You are not causcasian only north, central and eastern europeans can call themselves white.

Of course they are white noimmigration. Are Poles white? Disregarding the suntanned ones, some are a fair bit darker than me, being very pale white. They're still white tho.

It reminds me of George Bush who asked the Brazilian PM, 'do you have blacks too?', hehehe. Was Carlos Dunga black? Taffarel? Juninho? Come on mate!!

Why do you say America has bad racism? I think the general attitude in America is alot more tolerant than most countries. I live in Houston where there is a large mulitcultural, but especially black, population, and they hold every type of job and get treated like everyone else.

Kaylyn:
Why do you say America has bad racism

Because it does, plain and simple and I can give numerous examples of why it does, both in individual cases and in instituanalized situations. I say what I say not to bash America or to discourage because I love America. America is the greatest country on earth, however it is also the most racist country on Earth. It is this way because it is also the most multicultural. That's the paradox of racism. The USA is the most racist country because it is the most tolerant country. But tolerance and racism are always at odds with each other. Where there is one the other will push against it. That, sadly, is human nature.

My statements are taken as inflamatory because racism isn't what it used to be in this country. Yes, Blacks can sit on the bus and use the same restrooms and run for president and that's great. I'm so pleased to see a Black man on his way to a major pary nomination, but it's well overdue. The race problem in America isn't the KKK anymore, but it's there and it's there big time. I've mentioned this study before but it's very telling so I'll repeat it. In 1965, white people were polled being asked if they felt Blacks had a equal chance of excelling in America. 75% said yes, that everything is equal. In 2005, the same poll was taken with the same results. If we could have been so wrong then, why can't we be so wrong now?

Why are the jails 80% filled with Blacks when they only constitued 20% of the population? And why are Black jail sentences on AVERAGE 4 TIMES LONGER than whites? Why in 140 years of Black sufferage have there been only 6 Blacks elected to higher office? 6! I'm not telling you that you're racist, Kaylyn. Or that Houston is racist or any of that, America is great nation and I love it to death. And I agree with you, the general attitude IS more tolerant than more nations, but I want it to be perfect. And it isn't.

I think that only people who are victims of racism are actually completaly aware of racism. The bystander cannot fully comprehand racism, unless he/she experiances it.

Have you ever been in Brazil? We are of Polish, German, Italian, Dutch descent and many other caucasian races. Take a look at majority of models from Brazil, they're all 1,80m height, blond and blue or green eyed. Of course we have whites in Brazil, go get your facts straight about it, before saying something like that.
I'm white since I was born and not for lack of sun, I had blond hair also, so how do you say I'm mixed? I'm of EUROPEAN descent mostly Italian and some Swiss German so there.
Open - up your eyes and mind.
Peace out.

A big 'aaah!' in sympathy for the forum's resident German.

Many of us feel at least a little bit of discrimination here on PF, some more than others. But most of us leave our computers, step out into the real word (hey, isn't this real?) and aren't subjected to racial or ethnic discrimination.
