Are there any Polish communities in Georgia?

My friends, Grzegorz and Gosia, recently moved to Georgia. They have been in the states for 14 years. Their mother visits them often, but she misses Poland when she is here. Does anyone know of a place in Georgia (near Atlanta) where she could go and meet other Poles? She says she would enjoy it and perhaps she would then have friends to visit when she is here instead of sitting at the house alone (and bored)while her children are off working.

Not many Poles in GA, I'm afraid. About the same or less than in Florida...

That's where I met Greg and Gosia was in Florida! Funny how there are people from all over the world around here, but cannot find any Polish people for their mom to befriend (other than relatives)... Any suggestions?

Move to Chicago... Forget Georgia. :)

If only it were that easy! I was getting nails done today and a girl came in and started talking to the person doing her nails. Turns out she is from Poland and she and fiance are in Georgia, but they don't really know any Polish people here either... Oh well... Perhaps I should start searching the Chicago area for a home for them to relocate!

Atlanta is great! I have been here almost all of my life. I absolutely love Chicago, but hate the cold... In fact, it is my favorite city in the US. I usually go there a few times a year for business, but don't think I'll be there this year. Grzegorz lived there once and didn't like it. I just hate that their mom is so lonely!

Hey !! I am new to GA ! We just moved here from Germany a few month ago. I had great contact with my polish family and friends and would be interested in finding out if there is any here. We are good 100 Miles South from Atlanta.

We recently discovered it and my wife, a Belarussian of Polish descent loves it. Adam is great! Also there is a mass each Sunday, in Polish at 2PM. We go to Adams European Deli about once a week to restock. We will probably be there in the next couple of days. There is a Russian food place "New Odessa" that we have been to also. It is just a few miles south offf of Peachtree Industrial Blvd, in a plaza. Adams place is closed on Mondays, but is open the rest of the week. He has a web sit too.

My husband and I are going to be moving to Georgia later this year. Currently we live in Wisconsin. We will probably settle around Rome or Dallas, which is about an hour northwest from Atlanta. It's good to know that there are other Poles living in the south. I'm going to be needing to find some frieds as well.

In the meantime, can anyone tell me, how o you guys like living in Georgia? Are the people nice there?

Here, In Wisconsin, I can't complain. I work for an insurance agency, and only ocassionally some of the clients complain they can't understand my accent. These are mostly uneducated, small town folks, who never traveled outside of the States. Is Georgia the same? Maybe worse? Just wanted to see what I can expect.....

Iwonabro, I would suggest focusing on Rome more so than Dallas. Dallas is a bit too southern in my opinion. I worked there for a few years and it's a bit to small for my taste and full of a bunch of good-ole-boys...so to speak. The County, Paulding, is basically a bedroom community for Cobb County and metro Atlanta, meaning schools are a bit over crowded, taxes are probably above the norm, etc. Not a bad place, Dallas, just as a Georgian myself, it would be hard for me to recommend it to a new comer to the south.

Rome, on the other hand, is a bit bigger and full of southern charm. Even has a nice lil downtown area for shopping, dinning, etc.

I'm from Wisconsin too, and about 6 years or so I guess I moved to Atlanta (well, Lawrenceville). I was surprised to see a respectable Polish community. In fact, just 30 minutes ago I just got done having lunch at the Gimza, an authentic Polish restaurant. Very nice people! Food is very comforting too, like homemade like my mom made. I prefer my moms because...well, its my moms!

Also in Lawrenceville there is a Polish general store, and on Pleasanthill Road there is Polish Traditions Deli, a nice little Polish store. They don't have their liquor licence yet though, so don't expect to get beer while chatting it up with the owner (super nice guys!)

I'm mentioning those places because you will be able to chat it up easily because again, such nice people, they can give you all you want. And like the others mentioned, there is Polish mass on sundays at 2 in Norcross, etc. It's here. Not like where I a fro, but it's here. :)

I hope this helps some. And if nothing else, it's a good activity to go take a ride to see.

I'm not Polish but my best friend is. Here in GA, I have ran across a number of polish people. Also there are many polish events throughout the year that I hear about from her....Xmas, new years, etc. (Seen them at polish club of atlanta)

I heard of the polish store that Kennitz mentioned that is in Lawrenceville. Friends go to it and enjoy it.

Wow! So many great ideas and many of them are right in my friends' backyard. I have moved to Daytona Beach and have forwarded your ideas to Greg and Gosia. I am enjoying working in a resort area and have met many Polish people. It is easy to recognize the accent and I greet them in Polish and BAM we have a conversation. My Polish skills aren't improving, but I am having a great time conversing with others and learning more about the country.

Mikey, I attend a mass at St. Marguerite Catholic Church. It was interesting as I was the only non-Polish person and the entire mass was in Polish. I had difficulty, but it was a wonderful experience!

There are tons of poles in the ATL area.... check out nasza-klasa.pl and type in Atlanta.....

Polish mass already mentioned, Polish club of ATL, Polish School, there are tons of ways of finding poles... also IMO find the bosian markets food is cheaper than the polish ones.... my wife is a croat so I get the best of both worlds.....
