Polish gay activists win human rights case

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Poland was guilty of discrimination for banning a gay rights march in Warsaw in 2005, when current President Lech Kaczynski was mayor of the capital.

This is a tough one, if Poland wants to be accepted by the more liberal E.U. countries they will have to become more tolerant. And everybody knows the more you repress movements the louder and better organized they become. The Poles should know better than anyone. personally whats the big deal with letting Gays and lesbains have a parade once in a while. Its strange Jesus taught love and toleration of everyone and yet the staunch christians seldom practice this. Like Bush stands for family values and Chritian ideals and then goes and kills people and destroys families in iraq. Ohhh right they aren't christian so we(the US) can kill them and God doesn't care

The whole thing ackowledges that discrimation exists. They knew that very well before they joined the EU that the EU has very strict laws when it comes to sexual, religious, racial, etc discrimination..

If you're looking for a job, the fact that you're a lesbian or not should not decide wether you get the job.

they did in the past. they would ask your religious background, your ethnicity, your sexual orientation. many companies in the UK still ask you to fill in your ethnic background on application forms eg NEXT

It's just an example of what should not be done. The original quote says "it acknowledges that discrimination in Poland exists" I don't know what they're talking about, just a shot in the dark.

But tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if there would still be employers who'd fire people if they knew about their sex. orienatio

I used to be an actor and it was a liability because I wasn't gay. hows that for reverse discrimination. My friends used to talk about the theatre being run by the "gay mafia"

Perhaps, but do employers really want to ask the question. There is nothing to win by asking it. Even GWB is supporting "don´t ask don´t tell"-policy in military.

well apparantly they did - i gave an example of UK company NEXT which still asks about ethnicity for eg. whatever purpose that serves I cannot tell.

Many companies in Britain ask for your ethnical background, maritial status etc, but from my experience only few asked me for my sexual preferences, and only on voluntary basis.
