Think about that...a bunch of inexperienced 17 years old thrown into their first battles being called "the best troops in Normandy"...what does that say about the rest?

Because they were like you Bratwurst Boy.....''Brainwashed''.....and just for the record.. the Russians had as much problems from the HJ getting into Berlin as we did in France!

Now that is funny:

LOL

An English prisoner of war was held by the Germans. The Englishman was shot all over the place, and okay until one day when the German told him, "Englander, your arm is infected with gangrene we must cut it off."

The English prisoner said, "Well, okay, but could you drop it over England when you go bombing."

The German replied, "Ya, that vill not be a problem."

A few weeks later the German tells the Englishman that they have to cut his other arm off. The Englishman says, "Well, could drop it over England like you did last time."

"Ya, that will be done," says the German.

The next day the German tells him that they have to cut his leg off. Once again the Brit says, "Well, could you do the same as before."

The German replies, " ya."

The next the German tells him they have to cut his other leg. "Well," begins the Brit, "could you just..."

The German snapped, "No! We think you are trying to escape!."

Another one...LOL....it's so right:

A little boy and his father are listening to the Fuhrer's speech on the radio as Germany declares war on the USA. The boy asks his father where the USA is. The father takes down a globe and runs his hand across the USA, saying "All of this area of North America, son".

The boy looks at the globe and asks "and where is the British Empire?". The father indicates Britain, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and India on the globe.

"I see", said the boy. "And where is Russia?" The father showed him the sprawling mass of the USSR on the globe. The boy's eyebrows furrowed with concentration.

"And where is Germany?", he asks. His father points at the area of central Europe where the Reich is located. The boy looks very concerned and says "Dad, has Hitler seen this?

ROFL:

"A veteran Polish Spitfire pilot from WW2 was interviewed on the BBC.

BBC: Were you ever shot down during air combat?

Pole: Oh yes, a Fokker once shot my Spitfire to shreds, but I bailed out, and lived on to fight another day..

BBC: Was it a Focke-Wulf 190, one of the best German fighters ever produced?

Pole: Hell no, this Fokker was a Messersmidt.."

No western ally could have won against Germany on their own...

And germans of course fought "on their own"... already in 39 you had Austria, Slovakia and the Soviet Union, against the SU the whole armies from Hungary, Romania, Baltics, Finland, the whole divisions of volunteers from Norway, Belgium, Croatia, Ukraine etc. + Italians, Vichy France and Japanese were keeping most forces of Yanks in the Pacific...

It was not an ally just burden, the same as in nato! What done italians in winter Stalingrad? The focus of oure break was pointed on the romanian divisions as a weakest.

there any battles that the Russians won against the Germans during this period of the war?....The Germans rounded up the Russians in huge pockets, millions at a time....We were all fighting the best Army in the world and had to learn from our mistakes in the same way the Russians had too....But I think we did that in the end....as your mention of El Alamein says....When the inexperienced American Army entered the war for the first time in the desert the Germans hammered them at the Kesserine Pass...Which led Rommel to nick name

Actually there was a very important battle the Russians won at this period of war.It was the battle for Moscow in 1941 when the german army faced the possibility of a total destruction.(How it managed to survive the winter of 1942 and the soviet counterattack is one of the greatest achievements in military history).
Americans also managed to stop the germans in Tebetha despite the big losses.
The El Alamein battle was won due to the 800 brand new Sherman tanks the americans offered to the 8th english army between the June and September of 1942.Rommel managed to defeat the british in Tobruk although he had less soldiers(only 100.000 were german) and less tanks(only 400 german) and less planes than the british.Very few armies have advanced when the enemy has superior air power. One was the Africa corps against the british.Only 4 german divisions against 12 english, new Zealand and canadian.

Divisions were stationed around Caen, many were veterans from Russia.....Most of the soldiers fighting on the American side were not even German!!....They were Poles, Russians, Baltic states etc.....but the fierce fighting around Caen did destroyed all of the German tanks....some 2000 in all,.....This enabled that all American hero General Patton to go galloping across France thanks to the Brits with no Germans in front of him....Just to quote the German Chief of staff in Normandy....General Blumentritt....Who was asked after the war about the quality of allied troops opposing him... he said ''As for the British it proved almost impossible to shift them....To counter attack the British always cost us heavy casualties.....As for the Americans they always attacked with zest.....but once they came under artillery fire they usually fell back to their start line!!....Not exactly ''Saving Private Ryan''.

The americans ho landed in Omaha had 6.000 casualties in 3 hours due to german mashine guns.English troops faced no resistance at all at Sword and the other places they arrived.Kaen was supposed to be occupied by day 3 after D-day and the british managed to take it over only in August after 2 months of battles against the german PanzerSS divisions. The americans in the same tme managed to encircle the german troops and so the latter had to retry from France to avoid total annihilation. The panzer divisions which fought against the english in Caen had already lost 50-60% of their tanks due to heavy bombardment from american Mustangs P51 on their way to Caen.
They came there after 20 days route but the bristish had not managed to penetrate the front.

Arnhem.... it was a big cock up....but again the Germans the Paratroops fought against....the 9th and 10 SS Panzer Divivsions had come from Russia....and after the Battle had ended they said we were the best troops they had ever fought against.

You forget to mention that 9th and 10th Panzer divisions were there to relax after the big battles in Normandy and the retreat in France where they lost almost all of their ammunition. They almost had no tanks and they were totally unprepared for the operation. They just happened to be there by luck.
On the other hand the Arnem operation was very carefully planned by the english who wanted to bring a quick end to the war. They sent for it their best troops and had absolute air superiority.

could keep going on about General Alexander in Italy....Replacing American troops who had come under fierce resistance at the Gustav Line with British troops!!.....but I I think i've said enough for now....Britain was not the main player in the war, but we can take pride in the part we did play.....The attacks against us comes from

The english delayed the rapid movement of Patton who wanted to encircle the germans in Sicely. The germans managed to get to Italy from Sicely without any losses because the english did not advance fast enough.
They landed to Italy in August 1943 and needed 1 full year to conquer Rome,300 km away. They mrached 300 km in one year the slowest advance in history,Italy proved to be the worst choice,a place without any strategic interest where the ground morphology allowed very few germans to defend effectively.
Stalin proposed the Normandy operation since 1942.English constantly delayed it.Americans wanted to do it in 1943,the english said no,and then said maybe in 1946 or later.Americans became so angry, they threatened the british in order to put an end to the war.Churchill wanted to land in Balkans, not in Normandy but Stalin forbid it to him.He said Balkans will be a political operation, the military operation is in Normandy.
When the germans moved forces from the eastern front to France to fight the allies, the Russians managed to crash them completely.(25 german divisions destroyed in eastern front in the russian offensive of June-July 1944,the russian troops enter the polish borders).

Personally, I don't like to generalise and I don't feel any anger or anything to Russians and Germans(ok, Russians aren't my fav nation ;P). And I think that we shouldn't say bad things about ppl if we don't know them, but unfortunatelly poles aren't the most tolerant nation ;P, although I think they like Germans more. ;]

Southern.

I carn't be bothered to argue anymore about it!.....I stand by everything I have already said, so you'll just have to take my word for it......The slowness was caused by a complete mismatch in the quality of troops the brits had to face compared to the Americans....All of the German counter Attacks against the western Allies i'e Mortaine, Ardennes etc were directed towards the Americans, because they saw them as the ''week link'' in the line........but your right about Italy....with the mountain ranges and endless river crossings it wasn't a good choice!!

I think they like them more than Russians. ;P Besides, lots of Poles go to Germany for work or to their families, so yeah, i think so. ;] And don't forget that germany is poland's neighbour and it's more... modern? :P i mean, every country on the west side from poland is more developped, etc. So that's also a reason why poles like germans. ;]

I disagree. In my opinion Poles like more Russians than Germans. The reasons: similar culture, language and sense of humor, they’re good drinking companions etc. Poles always come to terms with Russians. Especially people from eastern Poland don't like Germans. The reasons: they look down on others, cultural differences between Poles and Germans etc. Poles don't like Russia but not Russians. That's difference.

Union...hemm we would slaughter each other in such union. Especially living together with poleswe would make a blood bath. ;-)))))

Why? Why, realy?

Old Slavs already lived in some kind of Unity- tribal confederation (Sarmatian period and Great Moravia) and, that Unity wasn’t destroyed from inside but, due to Greek, Roman, Teuton and Hun actions. Slavic history is painful but also full of examples of mutual Slavic solidarity.

Similar as with Great Moravia was with Yugoslavia- last attempt of Slavic Unity. Germany (decedents of Teutons!) interferes and cut process of political dialogue between Yugoslav republics and Civil War started. Germany is even most responsible foreign factor for antagonistic relation between Serbs and Croats, to be precise- German hegemonistic and imperialistic intentions, aggressive germanization, collaboration between German and Turkish state in order to divide Balkan between them and to weak Slavic element in the region, etc.

We took the whole world on...and this world needed 6 years to beat us!
We can still be proud....what does Poland have to show besides being the playground for the grown ups?

You took the world on only because the west helped you to regain strength after the WWI. Actually regaining your strength after WWII also happened because the help from the west. Poland never experienced such a generous aid... Well not until 1 may 2004. :)

As for the second part of your post check the names of:

Stanis³aw ¯ó³kiewski (1547 – 1620)
¯ó³kiewski
he won major military victories against Russia, Sweden, the Ottoman Empire and Tatars. My favorite performance made by him is Battle of Klushino, where 6 000 Poles under his command defeated 40 000 Russian army.

Jan Karol Chodkiewicz (ca.1560– September 24, 1621)
Chodkiewicz
Famous Polish-Lithuanian military commander. My favorite performance made by him will have to be battle of Chocim in 1621 where 40 000 Poles and Cossacks under his command managed to defend the fortress from 100 000 - 150 000 Turks. (some sources say abut 200 000 Turks)

Stanis³aw Koniecpolski (1590/1594[1] – 11 March 1646)
Koniecpolski
Battle of Martynow, where 25 000 poles won over 60 000 Tatars.

Jan III Sobieski (17 August 1629 - 17 June 1696)

Sobieski
The "Lion of Lehistan." Most famous for the battle of Vienna 1683 - 70 000 Holy League soldiers against almost 140 000 Turks.

ok, it's late and there are still many brilliant polish military strategist like Czarniecki, Zamoyski, Dunin, Boleslaw The Brave, Boleslaw Krzywousty, etc... Check them out and then we can talk, because for the current moment you don’t seem to know what you are talking about. :)

Your jokes as you call them and your comments only prove what a sick person you are. Your pride in the deaths your grandfathers generation caused only proves that you are a weak member of your nation, here is why: Only a very low form of being would take pride in murder and laugh at murder. And you are right it took many nations to band together and rise up to defeat Germany, but they did. they found your nation so abhorrent they put aside differences and joined to erase the abomination which you are so proud of so sick and disgusting and outright cowardly were the german people who did nothing to stop the murder of innocents old and young, sometimes and very often infants are you proud of that? what sick mind could dash a babies skull against a wall and feel pride at a good deed done. Compassion is the true measure of a master race feeling for the weak and the desire to help mankind to elevate the spirit and the mind is the yardstick people use to measure greatness not cruelty and murder. So you dig yourself deeper and deeper with you proud tales of Nazi Germany you only prove you are a lower form of life and if you exemplify what a German is (and I don't believe you do) you bring your whole nation and people down to the lowest form of humanity.
