Hi everyone. My name's Eric and I live in the United States. I've been chatting with a Polish girl who lives in Szczecin for over a year now and we have developed very strong feelings for each other. We chat, talk on the phone and we even see each other by webcam. I've been learning polish for her for the past few months. We are planning to meet for the first time this summer. ....I'm curious if anyone has any relationship success stories....u know...american guy...polish girl....or vice-versa. It would feel good to know that there are other people that have made this work. I love this girl very much and I would do anything for her. Share your stories people Thanks.

Eric

My advice would be to register first (to be treated more seriously) and you can also click on the "Related Topics" link to check similar threads.

Hey Eric,
I have a Polish girlfriend and we’ve been seeing each other for about three years now. We met in Holland and I have been to Poland five times, I am going back in June. I think you’ll like Polish culture; the people are very nice and welcoming. I am learning Polish myself and have traveled all over Poland and oh let me add I am African American. I think people are so surprise when they see me especially in the small towns, they just stare but not in a bad way. I live in the states now so we mostly communicate through the internet and phone. I think you guys should meet and take it from there.

She would have to get a visa first, and those aren't that easy to get.

Hehe. I live in Szczecin. What line of work is she in? I wouldnt be surprised if she is my ex fishing the waters in North America, cuz thats where i met her last year.

as for success....no. there was too big of a cultural difference for her, perhaps for me too. I'm Canadian.

If you come here..... just be prepared to pay for everything, all the time. She is an only child, and never knew what it is like to share things. She was kinda a B+itch most of the time. I would have never treated her the way she treated me if she came to visit me for a month.

all i can say is goodluck!!

yes, sometimes that can be an obstacle and so could the language barrier. But if you are compatible with one another, those can be overcome and if your love is strong enough. And sometimes it's great at first, everything is new and wonderful, but after a while you want to go back to your own country as the newness wears out.
Everybody is different.
It's up to you if you want this relationship working or not.

Hehehe... Apparently not. But on the other hand this whole “sexual" tourism pisses me off. Some time ago I was forced to "teach some manners" a German guy, who let's say, behaved very disrespectful towards some polish ladies. It seems that some people forget how to behave abroad, especially when they visit a poorer country. That's probably why I didn't feel sympathetic towards the main characters in that movie. Still, listen to your boyfriend. Slovakia is very beautiful. You won't regret it.

true enough.. ive witnessed this firsthand in much poorer countries than Poland..but most girls are also savvy. As in the movie, its all a question of economics.

Im only joking about Slovakia, I wouldnt mind going there.

Anway, (she says trying to get back on thread so I wont be deleted).. Nyman 26 I am an English girl with Polish bf. Would be happy to share my experiences of the cultural differences with you if you are interested..

I wouldn't take this advice. It would all depend on the person you're visiting. When I visit my GF, she pays for most because I'm a visitor. I do take her out for dinner-cinema and she still offers to split...I refuse of course Her family also pays for a few things too. It would be strange unfortunate to have to pay for everything yourself. They can work by the way, it just takes a lot of patience and trust.

Rafik mate. Don't want to get in the way of a good rant but, with regard to Eric's post: she hasn't dumped him (at least at the time of writing or any new information you may have notwithstanding) He just wanted to know if any other Septic's had had a relationship with a pole that had worked.

Think he just wants reassurance. Think he got it, yep. We;re good to go!

Rafik... WTF is your problem with me???? What exactly is your opinion of me??

It's the internet.... I don't know you and you don't know me. Our paths will never cross. Funny how you have an opinion about someone that you only read their words.

I am not here in PL to win the hearts and minds of the locals. I actually have a GF and plenty of good friends. So WTF do you know about my social life?? Please tell me.

I have never posted anything on this website regarding my lovelife.

I was merely relating my first experience with a PL gf 1 year ago. She was a spoiled only child, that got everything she wanted all the time. The only time she offered to pay for something was when we went to rent 2 movies.

I was just warning the OP about what could happen to him based on my experience. PL girls could spend another persons money easily.

nauczyciel, surely i have never met u or will meet you in the future.i judged u on what you wrote in 2 posts.
firstly.in one of them you told us your story about your collegues making excuses ect.
you don't even try to understand why this people didn't want to go out every week with you.just moan about them.you told us that u went out before so that it wasn't about you but about how often you go out.you should know that most of the polish people don't go out evbery week because;
-this is not part of our culture-we like spending time at home
-lots of people can't afford it
-they have something else to do ect.
then u say that other teachers started talking in polish after that.what a horrible thing!!!but remember,u live in poland,so that you shoul make an effort and learn our language instead of complaining about polish people talking in polish.
the whole post is just ignorant and unpleasent.
another post'about your exgirlfriend.it seems that the only thing you can remember about her was that you had to pay for everything.lol.what did you expect?her to invite you to a restaurant and pay for a dinner or maybe for your tickets to athe theatre or a bunch of flowers you gave her?this is not the way we do it in poland dude.
you are an ignorant for me.that's it.

/\ i'm so happy that you have spent so much time from your busy day to write that AND that you have gone thru all my posts here on PF to gather your opinion on me. I feel all warm and fuzzy.

have you ever left your home country permanently to live in a new country where you know less than 1% of the language? Doubt it.

You don't know anything about my studies of polish. So don't say that i should make an effort.
