Couldnt agree more. Those dark days in the 1980's where football was no where in terms of popular culture, no one could have forseen the media circus that it is now. I maintain that its safer to attend a match in England than anywhere else in Europe with the security measures and top flight stadia being all-seated. What does annoy me is that the media goes into overkill when an English supporter farts in Europe and talk of banning English clubs comes into play, when a lot worse happens elsewhere. Yes it was 50 years ago but it lasted for 50 years!!! We are free country only for 17 years!!!!!! You cannot just deny that wahat happened and live like the west becaouse our economy has no chance to be like the west yet. We were occupated for too long. While they were richer and richer we had to work for Russia for 50 years. Ask yourself how nuch damage it made for our cuontry. It was not possible to rebuild the country that for the last 50 years and before that another 50 years of wars. Look at the whole history not at the recent 5 years and you maybe will understand what Im talking about. The only thing that would have freed Poland was a war against Russia and the dangers of that left us in the Cold War for 50 years.

i would never claim to be a historian and whilst tradition is important to me i try to live firmly in the present and plan for the future. as for understanding polish people, well... i spend enough time with them and they like to tell me about their proud past... along with many other things...

poland has been through a dark patch, its been a free country for 17 yrs and a member of the EU for much less... i dont think it is reasonable to assume that any country undergoing such change can immediately compare its self to, or compete with countries that have been free for centuries and part of groups like the EU for decades...

but at the same time i like to think that such countries, like poland, have a fresh slate so to speak which allows them to learn from the mistakes of others and move forward into the future with advantages not available to all...
