Polish Leter Confusion

I recently had a letter written in Polish translated and it was signed,

Waclaw Wolynski
County Kowalski
Post Office Kaszewice
Lumber Czeremacha
Rucinski Antoni

Can anyone explain to me what all of this means.

Waclaw Wolynski
County Kowalski
Post Office Kaszewice
Lumber Czeremacha
Rucinski Antoni

Why the two names? That is not typical. Is this the return address of Wacław Wołyński or Antoni Ruciński? If they shared the same postal address, their names would be on the top line as: Wacław Wołyński i Antoni Ruciński or

Wacław Wołyński, Antoni Ruciński

It originally probably was:
Powiat Kowal
Poczta Kaszewice
wieś Czeremacha

This indicates that the village of Czeremacha is a hamlet without its own PO, so post arrives via the PO in nearby Kaszewice. A powiat is a district which some briticise into county, but in Polish a county is a hrbastwo (from hrabia = count).

Waclaw Wolynski

Where does it say this? Not in the first letter you showed us.

Wolyn: is a district. And the rest of the address is in that District.

I'm open to critisism though.

Both maris and myself have already mentioned this.

first letter.

W = Województwo = Voivodeship

Wolynskie = Wołyn

This wasn't in any of the letters that I recently posted for translation but I will post the letter so that you can see the exact context that it was in.

I know this letter is kind of hard to read but thanks againn for all the help!!

Rucinski Antoni is an author of this letter , his signature ends the latter.
Waclaw Wolynski is likely the receiving party.
As far as I know it was quite common to put address and name not only on envelope but also inside the letter itself. If the package (envelope) was damaged the content still was deliverable. Also this letter could be deliverd not by mail but personally (privacy was not such an issue, I guess)

I don't think that Waclaw Wolynski is the receiving party because I recently had this letter translated and in the letter the writter often refers to the recipient as "my dear brother Piotr." Thanks for trying though, I appreciate the help!

Waclaw Wolynski

I have tied looking at this a few times. In my opinion it does not say Waclaw.

For me, the second last letter is 'w'. And I have doubts about some of the other letters too.

I still think it is an old fashioned short form of Województwo

Wroclaw you're right it's wołyńskie so it must be województwo

I think I got it...

Województwo Wołyńskie (Voivodeship)
Powiat Kowelski (County)
?Urząd? pocztowy Maniewicze (Post office)
Tartak Czerewacha

Ruciński Antoni

this must be the address of the sender

Anyway google is a great tool, here is what I found:

I googled "Tartak Czerewacha" :) and that is what I got

I'm not sure what the website is ... I found there a list of different locations in Koweski (or Kowel) county (in Wołyń Voivodeship- a part of Poland before WWII)

I just had to match what I was able to read from your letter whith the names on the list...

this is how I got the address...

Oh cool! Thanks for doing that for me :) I used iGoogle to see what "Tartak Czerewacha" means in English and it came back with Sawmill Czerewacha, which I am assuming is a sawmill in the town of Czerewacha. Does anyone know why that would be included in the closing of the letter?

Thanks for the help :)

Czerewacha is now called CHEREVACH (in Ukraine) Черевахa

maplandia.com/ukraine/kyyivska/cherevach/

MANIEWICZE (now Маневичі) was just few km away from Czerewacha
