I have looked for a post about what has happened last weekend in Drimnagh

(2 men killed by teenagers-

A double murder investigation is under way following the death of a second man who was stabbed in the Dublin suburb of Drimnagh last Saturday.

29-year-old Pavel Kalite had been critically ill since the attack, which has already claimed the life of his 27-year-old friend Marius Szwajkos.

but I couldn't find any. I think it is something that should be discussed instead of ignored! It seems more important to me than some of the other crap that is being discussed ie: is my polish bf cheating on me.... etc....
I am disgusted by the what has happened and what a shithole my city is becoming.
I know this is being reported of in Poland, so has the opinion of Polish people changed towards Ireland?

What a terrible tragedy.

Do we know if they were attacked because they were Polish, or was it a random attack?

(and yes, I agree with you..... the Polish girls are the hottest in the world / is my bf cheating because he is Polish? type threads are getting a little tedious)

They are reporting on the news that the attack was not because they were Polish although how are we to know if this is 100% true?

They have been saying on the radio that they were attacked by teenagers because they refused to buy alcohol for them.

more about it here in The Times Two Poles die in Irish 'screwdriver attack' , allegedly they wouldn't buy alcohol for some teenagers and were then attacked.

I'm not saying it is because they were polish. I was looking for some polish opinion on the subject, what do they think of Dublin now?

I live very near to Drimnagh and even though it has a bad reputation I thought that it wasn't so bad. Now I'm not so sure!

Well unfortunately these things happen on a daily basis all over the world. I dont think we should be looking at Dublin in a different way due to this incident.

A former german colleague of mine has been assaulted twice within two weeks where as nothing ever happened to me. Something could happen to me tomorrow as well whether it is in Athlone, Dublin, Warsaw or anywhere else for that matter. Unfortunately Sc*mbags are everywhere and we can only hope that those responsible will get what they deserve.

Doesnt mean that this isnt a tragedy and my condolences go to the family........

I am shocked and disgusted by it! They were attacked by teenagers with a screwdriver!!!

Yes attacks do happen all the time, but that shouldn't mean that we all just say "oh well, more scumbags on the streets".

I don't think it was because they were Polish. They just happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time. It, however, is time that the Irish government starts to realise they have a severe problem with its teenagers. Right now, the law says that even if a bunch of big, muscelbound teenagers of 16 or 17 years old, beat you up, they will just get a warning. But if you defend yourself and hit one back and you are over 21, you will get arrested and end up with a fine or in jail because you hit a minor. This happened to a friend of mine: he was attacked and beaten up by five 16 year olds. He just hit one back in the face and that kid goes to the police while the others hold my friend to the ground. Gardai come and arrest my friend and gave him a month's jail + 3000 Euro fine for hitting a child.
Dublin is not as bad as it seems, there are just some areas you don't want to go at night, just like any other cities.

M-G (my sincerest condoleances to the family of the deceased)

Dublin is just the same as any big cities in the UK & Ireland. There are a good few scumbgas who have no respect for human life and would think nothing of kicking someone in the head when they are on the floor. Usually these animals are high on drink and drugs.

The vast majority of Irish people and Dubliners are good people who are sickened by what has happened.

It had nothing to do with the men being Polish - it was the wrong place at the wrong time. If I had been there I don't think they would have acted any differently.

I have met some great Polish people here and they are honest hard-working people. I hope they continue to come here as they make this country a better place.

I would rather say: two guys minding their own business and being at the wrong time at the wrong place. I don't think it has anything to do with them being Polish. The cr*p that attacked them would've attacked anyway - would it be Poles, Irish, Dutch, British, that doesn't matter.

This terrible incident has been discussed on several radio talkshows. On each occasion the radio switchboards have been jammed with ordinary Dubliners phoning in express their horror and disgust at these terrible murders and, of course, expressing sympathy with the deceased`s families.
Unfortunately in Dublin, like most cities, we do have a young scumbag element who can go out of control at times especially if under the influence of drugs. I really dont know what the solution is.

No, I highly doubt that. Poles are very recognizable overseas, especially in the UK. The hooligans were probably drunk, and looking for something "fun" to do. They should all be sent to prison for life.

**** off - this thread has nothing to do with immigration to Britain or with your warped sense of reality. It is about the murder of two innocent people in Dublin. Leave now.

As a Dubliner I am ashamed of what happened and can only hope that the families of the two men will some day recover enough from this tragedy to be able to get on with the rest of their lives.

We have a big problem with this type of mindless violence in our society. It seems to have increased since Ireland has become wealthy over the past 10 years. I agree that it could have been anyone that this happened to although the fact that the two men only arrived in Ireland 9 months ago may mean that they might still not have been fully aware of the type of danger some of these street people pose.

Apparently the local people of Drimnagh will hold a prayer vigil at the place where the murders took place next Saturday. Apparently they have been calling radio programmes all day attempting to distance themselves from the actions of the lunatics who carried out this act. I am told there has been a bank Bank of Ireland account set up where people can contribute to help with the costs to repatriate the bodies to Poland.

I doubt it Filios. We have a very large underclass of people who will attack anyone irregardless of their nationality. This type of thing has happened before but it normally happens to other Irish people. A kid was murdered last year for his mobile phone. Many of these people have access to guns and other weapons. Drimnagh, the place where the two Polish men were murdered has seen a big gang feud over the past few years during which a lot of people have been shot dead and many others shots and stabbed. The lateset killing in the feud actually took place in Spain a couple of weeks ago. I think many Poles who come here dont really realise that dangerous places like these exist in Ireland and dont take the threats seriously.

See the attached blog which is written by a Pole living in Ireland who calls it as he sees it with regard to crime in Ireland and the type of atmosphere which exists in some places.

Second man dies after Drimnagh attack

A second man has died following last weekend's attack on two Polish immigrants by a gang of youths in Drimnagh in south Dublin. Pawel Kalite (26) died in St James's Hospital from head injuries sustained during the incident. His friend Marius Szwajkos (27) died on Monday afternoon. Both men were working on a building site locally and had been in Ireland for less than nine months. It is now also understood that the teenagers attacked the two men on Benbulben Road because they refused to buy them alcohol. It is believed that the two men were stabbed with a screwdriver, but the weapon has not yet been recovered. A 17-year-old youth is being held in custody at Crumlin Garda Station as part of the investigation; two other teenage suspects have been released.

My condolences to the families of the two victims.
I'm an Irishman living in Ireland all my life and if you read my websites you will see that it's no surprise to me that these murders occurred.
Ireland has become a nation of teenage thugs with no effort made to address the problem.
My advice to anyone visiting the country is not to go out alone and not at all at night unless you have to.
