it's frightening how bad a straight bjj player's takedown skills can actually be- just a crap dive at the legs with back bent all to heck and looking down.

that being said, i noticed that for some reason, when i have no fear of being taken down whatsoever, i usually just go to my bread and butter double-switch to single-switch to body lock trip combo. If the guys suddenly got inspired i'd be choked out (or at least put in a compromising position) mighty quickly. Sometimes practice partners just give up the take down so routinely that there's never any immediate stimulus to use more intelligent (or flashy) takedowns.

having said that bjj player's takedown skills are generally very one dimensional or only a vague idea without any real fundamental training imho.

might that not be a boxing technique? :-)
MMA practitioners have been cross training for years. 52 blocks seems to be the latest style to get rediscovered. Rashad Evans is employing some jail house rock into his dirty boxing game.
Check out the Snakepit in Wigan, Lancashire. It was one of the world's best catch wrestling gyms. I lived in Wigan as a kid and trained judo. Deeply regret not training catch.

many of the catch submission techniques appear to be very injurious. having never fought MMA at competition level, can you be disqualified/banned from competition for breaking someone's arm without giving them time to tap?
I expect you cannot.
Gilbert 'Eye Gouge' Yvel springs to mind. I seem to remember he bit a referee once and they let him continue competing. He certainly knocked a referee out. Bobby Frankham got his boxing licence revoked for hitting a referee so did his brother Johnny.

Kimbo Vs Butterbean, who'd win? Kimbo needs to fight Shamrock, I think Kimbo would take him to the cleaners. Kimbo Vs Chuck Liddell would be interesting but not gonna happen.

he's a freakshow until he fights a contender to anything. Shammy's days of works and thrown fights fit nicely into Kimbo's habit of finding fighters who do works and throw fights-it's a match made in heaven for promoters and bookies.

Chack has future matchup with Rua-we'll see how Rua comes back from the knee surgery, which was before the poor showing with griffen, which was before his other surgery, which was after he had to lay off the horse p"ss he was taking in Japan.
Chack wins, Quinton wins and we see a replay of quinton beating chuck. After that, if Wandy doesn't go to dreams then he'll factor in there somewhere.

This is ridiculous, we need to find an event to go to dude.

For sure, I'll keep my eyes peeled for any forthcoming tourneys in Bytom. Gliwice allegedly has a fight scene, gotta scope it out.

How's teaching been Ian?

who the hell is that? I'm foreigner4. Yeah G-town should have something but i'm grounded tonight so i can't ask until tomorrow, if the main man is in that is. I've been teaching a lot of wrestling based takedowns lately. Some of the guys just don't get it though-they're always in competitive mode. I.e. they simply refuse to go with the technique for the sake of learning. That is the one thing that absolutely pisses me off about training with or teaching the Poles, there is this rather large percentage that can't accept you know something that they don't and are always trying to point out some flaw in whatever. As if i didn't know there is a counter or two to the double.

Sorry about the rant, as mentioned i can't go in for my appointment to have my unblemished complexion removed....aaaaand I was supposed to get some new kneepads shipped in, 240zł right? and you know what i got instead? two f'n cliffkeen airbraces-wtf? I can't use them on a daily basis-wtf?
