The Polish Post Office is swamped at Christmas Season!

The Polish Post Office is so swamped this time of year it ain't funny!! The mail arrives 2 weeks later than normal, or it never gets there. They can't work fast enough!!

Warsaw has new sorting machines and they get at least 50,000 packages a day. Wroclaw has to sort everything by hand.

In the US we work overtime 8 days a week during this time. We hire casual help and the lines curl around 20 million times all the way out the door. We get an angry customer once in while because he to stand in line for 6 hours, but most customers make jokes and we have a TV you can watch while waiting.

Well, i don't know what kind of sorting machines PL cities have....but if you send everything a bit before time, it will get there on time.... my letters, cards and gifts are already in PL, so no problem....

sounds like my mail 52 weeks of the year.........still it's a novel way to get to know your neighbours....we all get each others mail, so we have to take it to each others houses....I got home from work Monday to 9 pieces of mail, not one was for me

I'm just waiting for Royal Mail to employ a postman who can read to work our street

From what I've heard from friends, It's generally like this in the US in the west. If you don't live near a sorting office, it can take upto a week for a simple overnight package to arrive.

Not exactly a month late, but delays no matter what time of year it is.

What also delays the mail is how people write the zip code. In US you write nr. 1 like a number 1, in Poland it's an upside down V. Now when the sorting machine receives a zip code with 4 upside down V's and a crossed 7 the machine goes crazy and the mail gets rejected and has to bo sorted by hand. And it takes years.
The state of Wisconsin is WI. We often get mail W.I. that goes to West India or even the Virgin Isles (V.I).

I live 10 minutes walk from the sorting office....... the mail is properly addressed...I got a phone call from my bank asking me why I hadn't informed them i had moved...I hadn't moved...the postman had put a sticker on my credit card bill saying i didn't live here anymore....the envelope was addressed correctly.it's usually worse on a Saturday during football season..... :(

Yes, but it is understandable the service is slow. Have you ever seen the type of people the American Post Office employs? Mind you, I was once in Las Vegas and could not find a post office and a man on collection gave me for free a whole batch of stamps. I was also lost just outside Dunedun heading back from Sarasota and I asked a mailman who seemed to know what he was talking about.

It's not only the Polish post office that's slow take a look at the link about the US postal system, still at least it got there even if the addressee was dead ----->

A CHRISTMAS postcard has been delivered in Kansas, 93 years after it was mailed from neighbouring Nebraska.

The main problem that Poczta Polska employees have at Christmas is deciding which parcels to steal. That thieves there steal about 20% of my post. So far this year I’ve had ten parcels stolen in the post. And nobody at Poczta Polska cares in the slightest!

Some years ago we had some friends that sent a parcel in their car to Poland and then posted it on registered post to its final destination, also, of course, in Poland. The parcel arrived but the ten pound note inside was gone! If letters, cards and parcels can be seen to be from abroad it must make them especially susecepable to theft.

I'd love to. The problem is that when something is sent by Royal Mail or USPS, it is always handled by Poczta Polska in Poland and often stolen by them too.

Want a brand new iphone? Contact my postman because the one which I bought disappeared after it got off the plane from the USA and entered the tender care of Poczta Polska.

You have to remember that Polish postman earn almost nothing at all. They can not afford to go sick even as they receive only 80 per cent of their pay which is already almost nothing-800zl per month. They make a bit extra by delivering people's pensions and live off the little tips they get.

This Polish guy told me he sends i-pods and electronics in cerial boxes. He stuffs it inside cheerios or corn flakes. He puts down cerial on the sending label so when they get in Poland who wants to steal cerial? and they don't have to pay duty fee on it. It's illegal, but Poles will find a loop-hole in everything.

sucks some of you are having problems. I've never had any shipping problems to-from PL. I've shipped Jewelery and Electronics. Sometimes it'll arrive 1 week late, but that's about it. Maybe it's possible that it depends on the city your'e shipping to.

Post offices all over are swamped. Most of you should know by now that holiday shipping needs to be done earlier :)

There are still state owned post offices around the World where your things are safe. I think this is predominantly a polish problem.
