Polish Restaurant Prices

A new Polish restaurant has opened in a quiet suburb near where I live. Any thoughts on the prices they quote in their menu?

Bowl of Barczsz UKP 2.95 (4.35€/17Zł)
Plate of Pierogi UKP 6.95 (10.25€/40Zł)

Seems a bit expensive to me, but I'd be interested to know what sort of prices people pay elsewhere.

Had Pierogi in Bar Polski (was Na Zdrowie) in Holborn in London last night. It was £7.00.

Very nice though

It depends how many and how large they are.

Holy Owczarek Podhalański!!! 40 zł. for a plate of pierogi? That's more than 12 bucks! You can get a nice steak for that price! Unless like Grzegorz says, they're big and you get a lot.

Pretty normal over here, maybe one euro cheaper.

Likely to be no more than ten, although I would guess at less. Probably made in a factory, knowing the owner of the restaurant. And you cannot 'mix and match' so it's either kapusta, potato or cheese.

I prefer them home-made. Luckily, my wife was taught by her mother to cook proper Polish 'peasant' food.

Hand made Pierogi go for £1-2 each.

And it depends on the restaurant too. Some have more class than others so the prices are higher.

Eat in "Bar mleczny" or similar places. Or even better - find a school canteen and you'll get best food prices there (like for students).

Pierogi for 6 quid, that's expensive. I can get 7 pyrogów for 4.50zl, about 85p. And they are VERY filling and tasty. That's from a milk bar (bar mleczny). For 6 pyrogów in Gazdówka, it's 14.50zl, that's 3 quid only. That's a top class restaurant that caters for business clientele. So, 6 quid is steep
