Is there the same stigma about the number of flowers that you give like in Russia where even numbers of flowers are usually for bereavements and you give odd numbers for happy occasions? I know this was disappearing in Moscow with time. Kind of confusing for us Brits where a doxen red roses is THE floral gift.

Note to wife (because I know you're on line darling) - all my flower giving has been for friends weddings. Honest

Szarlotka, I heard about this thing (like you shouldn't give the even number of flowers). It is the same as the colours symbolics (red - love, white - innocence good for weddings, young girls birthday etc, yellow - jealousy), but I don;t think young generation really cares. It must be similar to Russia then - an old custom that is dying out. Especially that not many people can afford 12 long-stemmed red roses - so they buy one :D

hehe checking up on you - the REAL moderator methinks ;)

Roses again seem to be the order of the day in Poland. I'd heard it was best to give an 'odd' number on such an occasian as 'even' was for berevement. oh well

I think this is an INTERNATIONAL female trait - once the ring is one - the pants switch hands :)

Be nice if they romanced us and once hitched we wear the pants :) no wonder more and more people choose to co-habit than marry these days :D BTW - are there any other polish symbols of love besides the nearly standard rose?

A small pet is a nice gesture. Suggestions: a parakeet, kitten, Chihuahua.

I always found that bread smothered in smalec worked well. Must be an odd number of slices of bread though.

No, I'm pretty sure it would be Myslovitz concert tickets. Forget the rose!
And of course,

that bread smothered in smalec

Sprinkle it with sugar, please.

Flowers always work for me. Years ago I had a very romantic boyfriend. As we drove in downtown Chicago, he noticed a guy selling roses on the corner. He stopped almost in the middle of the intersection, ran to the guy, bought a rose and ran back. It stopped the traffic and we noticed a lot smiles as well as fingers sticking out of the cars honking furiously....Oh, the crazy years...Please don't try it... :)

Forget the roses, BORING!!!

Take her on a picnic, feed her strawberries and creme, give her a bunch of dasies or violets... if she like these, she likes you. If she loves you, it's the thought that counts, not the price of the item.

Well for me I have done/do the Roses I have done/do the diamonds but works the most is if I actually put effort into a meal or buy and arrange a special day or if this fails book a romantic week/weekend to a Capital city, the cheapest way is to arrange a pick nick but this is not the ideal weather just now ;)
