Is there anything worth watching from an English speakers perspective?

I know they have champions league football and formula 1, anything else?

There isn't much apart from sports. I have Sky in Warsaw which is a life saver for me. Cable is also quite cheap in Poland if go for the basic package, BBC Prime used to be on cable but i've heard that they have stopped broadcasting.

I think the basic cable package is only 70-80 Zlotys a month.

^ But the basic Sky package is only 75zl a month!

I'm getting robbed, although i pay for the full package so maybe that's why my bill is so much.

I've got the full Sky Sports options (but not Santanta, Prem plus or NASN) and I'm paying £30.

Yep that's a real bummer! Apparently it is being relaunched as four new channels but with the dreaded 'Polski Lektor' (a monotone ass who reads the entire script in Polish over the original version while eating a bowl of bigos!). I wrote to the BBC about this and they claim that 80% of people they asked in Poland wanted the subtitles replaced by old 'Hannibal Lektor'. I find that pretty unbelievable as I know that many of my friends were using BBC Prime as an aid to learning English (listening to the spoken English and reading the Polski subtitles) It is also untrue that if you have Polsat you will be able to switch off the 'Lektor'. For some reason that would have cost them more money!
May I suggest logging onto the BBC Prime website and writing to complain. I've done that and so have many of my friends

Congratulations on your decision to have a voice-over on all BBC programs: it is a splendid way of wasting license-payer money. Your channel was previous first point of reference for Poland’s expat community and for Poles who wished to practice their English (by hearing the original soundtrack and reading the subtitles when needed). Now you have lost both those groups of viewers. What a wonderful decision! To paraphrase Mr Wilde, to lose one half of your audience may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.

Not really missing TV too much here, but just occasionally I have an overwhelming desire to tune into a trash reality program...Big brother, Celebrity get me out of here, Pop idol...and I seriously miss inspiring programmes like Grand Designs. Now, forgive me being ignorant...I never had much time to watch TV in UK, certainly not enough free time to warrant paying out for satellite stuff...so can you get these Brit programmes here??? Is all you need a Sky thingy? Is the basic £16 enough to get me UK channels (1,2,3 & 4 is plenty, but would settle for just channel 4!)...and how do I contact Sky in Poland, bearing in mind I speak about 2 words in Polish now, both of which would ensure anyone answering the phone hung straight up on me!!! Any advice much appreciated...but please no comments on my choice of programme..my husband told me already!!

There isn't a Sky in Poland - you have to organise the Sky card/box from a UK address as there are some restrictions on Sky broadcasting outside the UK. I have it but can't get any of the BBC or ITV channels here in Krakow as the signal is too weak and I'd need some expensive kit. But being able to watch CSI on Channel 4 when things get too much is a lifesaver!

I use Cyfra+ so you get the good movie channels (Canal,HBO,Skinemax), Eurosport, CanalSport(EPL,SPL) Discovery Networks, decent News and the occasional addition of new channels. Regular "free" TVP and such are pretty poor. With the exception of the odd sports broadcast, it's hard to find most of the Champions League. Cyfra+ allows for most of the channels to be broadcast in the native language of the program, so that is a plus for the english speakers.

HI. I Have a cyfra decoder and dish but no card. Can i still get any Polish channels, and where can i get a viewing card.

There is a website liveuktv.com where you can sign up to watch a good few stations via your pc. It will cost you. I have not signed up myslef as i am trying to reduce the amount of TV that i watch and that would be far to tempting. So i cant say anything about quality etc.

yeah you should get the FTA(Free to air channels)
