There is one important difference. Domestic abuse (both ways) in Western world happens. Unfortunatelly. In many Muslim countries domestic (and wider) abuse of women is sanctioned by law.

i had a similar lecture from a turkish guy at work.secular ready to join the eu country,huh?you wouldn't belive how strictly religious this guys are.the final outcome of his innocent speech was that islam is the only true continuation of christianity because it came straight from the god(shepard who received the instructions couldn'd read or write).i told him stright away;fcuk off.he hasn't spoken to me since then....

im sorry rafik, somebody told me that at work i didnt realise your story was exactly the same one lol. a while ago i watched this programme about a woman in Afghanistan who was hosting this cooking tv show. she was threatened verbally and through letters, and she was so scared that somebody might shoot her on the way home she run from her car to the door every single time. its madness.

Islam makes no difference between black , white , rich poor, european , africa, arab ,american nor australlian. And for some1 to be muslim , his inner soul must believe in the monotheism of god , no one can make u a muslim , only by gods will you be. No one can force you to be one too.

my respect to you, just remember that you're not alone - I know many Russians, Ukrainians, some girls from Scandinavia who are not born as Muslims (not converted after Muslim's marriage either) - but took Islam with their open heart. This brings happiness in this life and beyond. Many girs in Moscow wearing hidjab cried at night because of people on the street, offended them and shouted, because they are not arabs - they are Russians, who converted to Islam. And it's dangerous to show you're muslim in a city where were acts of terror. All of them (as I know) are happy now and don't have problems - they even tell people what is Islam and some get interested and convert. I think I know why many and many people take Islam in their hearts - they want to be clear, unspotted - life is given only once, there's no time to be misleaded and by the edge of death say - yeah, but everybody around me thought it's no good.. - Not an exuse. Check this forum - a lady who wish to sleep around and feel free for doing that? Let her doing so! People have a right to choose:) Some are weak, they want to change, but they afraid of the others, some think they are right in what they doing - leave them alone. This story is very old - more than 2000 years. Every time will be someone who think he is too smart telling you what is what - from beginning of this world it was like that. Then after 60-70-120 years of their short life they die - and guess who is right? The one who was happy because of Love Of God or the others, not struggling even to take a look at something that was given to them?

And all these stories about muslim women who got offended by muslim men... Happiness - this is what written on the faces of muslim ladies (at least the ones I know) - because they are treated as diamonds - if their husbands truly Muslims. they're cherished and loved - they know that their men won't be drinking, won't sleep with another woman and so on.

You live in denial. Some may have half decent lives but most are treated worse than dogs. No matter what kind of verses from Quran you cite, the condition of Muslim women is appaling. About 1/2 of a society condemned to servitude and to "being happy" in the name of some nebulous guy called allah.

I'm talking about women who choose Islam on their own will. They choose their husbands on their own will either. I understand that this is different between when lady is born as muslim - she probably don't even think about differences between religions - and act as her mother told her - to obey her husband even when he treated her badly.

Don't know nothing about it accept some stories heard - that's why can't talk about it.

I'm talking about mature woman, who converted to Islam and married muslim man on her own will and by falling in love with him. If this man will beat her - that's mean that he is not obey Allah - cause this is contradicts with God's words about how wives should be treated. And that's mean that she can divorce this guy - based on the reason that he is not Muslim enough for her. This is the reason - and very important one. This means that this man doesn't believe and doesn't obey God.

I understand that being born in some cultures like kazakhs or other - this could be almost impossible - because of traditions. but traditions is something different.

I can't imagine Norwegian girl, converted to Islam and who 's living with a guy who drinks and treats her like a dog. - no man, she won't tolerate that.

We are talking here about traditions among people - not the way it shoud be. This is ignorance again - try to explain a muslim who beats his wife that doing so he automatically stops being a muslim - he will be very surprised at least. And he won't believe you - cause his dad and the dad of his dad were doing so.

this is understandable and normal - everybody stick to that until they experience something that will turn their world upside down. Human being pshycology - simple and easy. You make moves only when death comes into play - old method used by numerous of warriors in the past to teach youngsters how to be a warrior. Only under pressure of circumstances which are deadly threatening one starts to learn. Here is the same thing with some exeption - one have to feel what is right in his life and what is wrong. Forget about the others - muslims, christians, buddists - take a look inside yourself. Call it Islam, call it whatever you want it, doesnt really matters.

Worklink, while your on the subject here. Could you explain to me the afterlife, and how it looks for a Muslim? For those more intellectual at heart, I've heard it consists of simple harmony with Allah, and being in his company for eternity. Very similar to Christianity. But then there is also a story about there being unlimited sex with virgins, drinking etc.. for the layman. Explain please? Was the latter a simple ploy to get more converts for the less intellectually inclined Arabs?
