Talking about underage marriage and the like....it is not accepted in THIS TIME AND AGE....if you look back into history....marriage/engagement to females under the NOW age of consent was very common,,,be it in the middle east...or other parts of the world, reasoning behind this was the short lifespan....give it some 750 years ago marriage to under consent age was very common here in England...Edward I had an arranged marriage to Elenor who was 13 at the time...
Look at the ages of consent around the world TODAY...there is ages of consent as young as 14 in non-islamic countries....(Hmmmm I hear the majority say,,"Hey it's Ok they're not muslims!!!")

First of all, when you talk about marriage, sex is first what comes to your mind -

oh yeah, that's because you're europeans and to have up to 4 wives means something to you. oh yeah - that's because you don't know about other culture - but it doesn't give you a right to act like you do!

In Islam, before (and sometimes these days) - many people lived in poverty. Girls (like 7 or 8 years old) was given as wives to men only because of in other case they would die from hunger - they had nobody to be taken care of. And - to be a wife of a man when you are 8 years old didn't mean to have sex witha a hasband! It means that girl is taken into a family and is part of a family!
