PolishAmerican: looking for a link to my Polish life

Jean Dobra (if I spelled that correctly)

I am an american born man of polish ancestry. My family came to the USA as immigrant "farmers" in the mid 1800's.

from apple farmers to factory workers to truck drivers to court clerks to electrical engineers, each generation grew and grew.

I'm trying to learn the tongue that I always knew, as a little boy, picking mint in the garden with my Great Grandmother Busia for making tea or flavoring drinks to complement golumpki and placek at Easter.

I still keep many family(Gach, tryanowski, benbynek, ulanowski)
traditions alive through cooking.

I have two sons, one is fine, the other is an angel. I find myself single, as my wife has lost her mind over the death of our infant boy, Anders Jozef B.

In the past year, I have been rediscovering my Polish heritage and ancestory, tracing them back through Erie, NY, Erie PA, the American Polish Falcons, and then to the motherland.
I have been learning a great deal about my forefathers and I am interested in knowing more.

Pleased to meet you. (barzo me me wo ?spelling?)

That truly sucks about your child I don't know how I would recover. My heart goes out to you from one Polish-American to another. Polish is I won't say easy to pronounce but once you learn what the letters sound like they stay that way not like English for example
Foot and Food. So it really helps to see polish words to pronounce them but some will always be impossible like Violin in Polish I won't even try to spell it.

Yes, two: I rescued them. What is the breed of the white dog used in the avatar?

Impossible is Nothing, especially with a good dictionary.

Hi Polish-Am, is Sunnyvale in Northern CA? I'm trying to think of where they would get snow...Big Bear, Lake Tahoe?

My ex-in laws lived in Merced for a few years, my ex was born in Tulare Co, and grew up in Sacramento. My fave part of California is Monterey (like a tiny San Fran), I could definately get used to that town. :)

I live on the Colorado Plateau in N. Az, so we get lots of snow. I like cold weather, so its ok for me.

You are so right. I love it there, too. The Central Coast is the best part of California.

I can close my eyes and see it in my mind, the blue-grey houses, the steep hills, the cypress trees, jagged rocks and pink ice plant growing everywhere..... sigh

sunnyvale is southern-most northern california. I think Tahoe is about the closest place for snow.

Less to shovel yes, but no place to play with dogs and son on the way in and out of the house each day.

Hey PA: how different is the west coast of the US to the east. I have travelled up and down ( and slightly middle) of the east coast and I enjoyed it... Will have to go back and do the other side some day...

Hi Roxy,

I would compare the west coast of CA to New Zealand. Rocky, tree filled mountains overlooking ocean beaches, beautiful lakes, large areas of wine country, gold country, areas of snowy mountains, gorgeous flora and fauna. I went to New Zealand last year and felt like I was home in California. The ocean in N.CA is very cold and you need a wet suit

Sydney also reminded me of San Francisco. Fabulous!!!!

I grew up on the east coast, and while it is beautiful, the charm is the traditional and Historical beauty. The most beautiful time for me on the east coast is in Autumn. The Atlantc Ocean is much warmer and you can go in the waterwithout a wet suit.
