Mods, is it OK if I post this here??

Congratulations to Polish-Australian Samantha Stosur for winning the US Open recently!

Samantha Stosur
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_Australian

Its nice to see that recently, Samantha and other professional woman tennis players of Polish ancestry went to the New York City Polish consulate to celebrate their shared Polish ancestry.

Tennis players of Polish ancestry at Polish consulate before 2011 US Open:

Some of the players include the 2010 US OPEN runner-up and current number one in Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Singles Ranking, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, as well as the current number ten and number twelve ranked woman players, Samantha Stosur of Australia……..

Congratulations to Polish-Australian Samantha Stosur for winning the US Open today!

Let's stress here that she only has one Polish grandparent and 3 British grandparents. Therefore, a more accurate thread title would be "British-Polish Australian". In fact, it would seem to be off-topic for this section, as her parents both have very English names.

Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark

Yes, so Polish.

Hey, MediaWatch, if they're all so Polish - why do barely any of these girls actually play in the Warsaw or Poznan opens?

(by the way - pretty clear proof that she's Australian and not Polish - http://www.google.com/#q=samantha+stosur+Australian&hl=en&safe=off&prm d=imvnsuo&source=univ&tbm=nws&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=875vTrayNs-XOq-ImIcJ&ved=0 CDYQqAI&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=d07b608f77462853&biw=1278&bih=620)

I wonder how she feels about being called Polish-Australian. I've met a Pole in the states who didn't even want to talk about Poland not to mention being called Polish-American. I guess it's different from case to case.

Where is the proof that 3 of her grandparents are of British ancestry?

Don't tell me your going to go by this BS again about names? If we judged people's ancestry just by their names, I would be half German since half of my relatives have German names. I am ZERO percent German.

Is American TV personality Jon Stewart of Scottish ancestry because his name is Scottish??

So why would Stosur go to NYC and visit the Polish Consulate and not the British Consulate before the US Open?

Don't tell me she is more proud of being Polish then British? British people are proud of their ancestry and I doubt somebody who is 3/4 British would ignore their British ancestry.

She is predominately of Polish ancestry.

But even if she was 1/16 of Polish ancestry, I think its very newsworthy on a Polish forum that somebody 1/16 of Polish ancestry feels a strong connection to being part of Polonia.

She's not called that. It's an American thing to use such terminology - most of the world just says Australian. Look at all the news reports - they all say "Australian tennis player". Heck, even the Polish media hasn't bothered to say much about her win.

I've met a Pole in the states who didn't even want to talk about Poland not to mention being called Polish-American.

As I gather, the ones who claim it most are the ones who are most distant from it. I know one guy who is Polish-American (his mother - American, his father - Polish) - and he says "I'm American".

Each nation has its renegades. Poland is not an exception. Should we make a big hallo about it?

Again, as I'm sick to death of telling you - Australians don't feel the need to mention where they're from. It's pretty obvious to most people in the world that if an Australian doesn't say anything - then they're descended from British criminals. It's just the way it is - I know you're not well travelled and so don't understand this, but that's that.

Don't tell me your going to go by this BS again about names? If we judged people's ancestry just by their names, I would be half German since half of my relatives have German names. I am ZERO percent German.

You are zero percent, huh? I mean, you do realise that there was heavy mixing between Poles and Germanic types?

So why would Stosur go to NYC and visit the Polish Consulate and not the British Consulate before the US Open?

Perhaps she was, you know, simply invited by the Polish consulate? Perhaps there were possibilities to meet potential sponsors there? It means nothing - maybe she did it just to keep a grandfather happy.

Don't tell me she is more proud of being Polish then British? British people are proud of their ancestry and I doubt somebody who is 3/4 British would ignore their British ancestry.

Uh, most Australians would probably rather forget that their British ancestors were likely to be criminals...

She is predominately of Polish ancestry.

Wrong, and lies. One grandfather does not mean "predominantly".
I meant here on PF, where people love to add this Polish-......... all the time.

Americans for you. They seem to feel the need to obsess over the minutae of people's history, while most of us merely go on where someone was born.

A great example is Caroline Wozniacki - in Poland, everyone calls her Danish. In America, they call her Polish. She was born in Denmark.

Wow your a real Sherlock Holmes. LOL

Everyone knows she is an AUSTRALIAN tennis player. Just like Caroline Wozniack who is of Polish ancestry is a Danish tennis player.

I am of Polish ancestry, but I am an American.

Duh!!!

But if somebody is called an Italian-American or Italian-Australian that simply means they are of Italian ancestry but they are firstly American and Australian respectively.

But they aren't called that. It's only you, and your fellow gene-obsessives who focus so much on this stuff. She's Australian, end of story.

The point is that no-one gives a rats ass if she has a Polish grandfather - the girl is Australian, end of story.

Then again, I don't spend my time on "national forums" like you seem to do.

No, the woman is Polish-Australian and a member of Polonia. She is also a tennis champion. She won the US Open and you, delphiandomine, have lost your fight to deny her Polish ethnicity as this thread's place on the Polonia-Australia section of the forum proves. She is a winner and you bear the shape of an "L" upon your forehead.

They care because they've got nothing else in their lives. Clinging to some idea of being Polish, even though neither of them have visited Poland/speak Polish, gives them some sort of warm feeling inside.

The woman is British-Polish-Australian, at that. Must burn you to realise that British criminals were more responsible for her success than some random Polish guy.

First of all Polish-hating trolls like yourself started loaded topics like "Polish women are the most beautiful in the world" to provoke anti-Polish racism.

So - what is it - does she get her ugliness from the British or the Polish side?

If she's predominantly Polish, then she must be ugly because of the Polish side. Stands to reason, according to your logic.

Anyway, I think it's sad that her nationality is used in such a way to promote petty agendas. No wonder Radwanska was so appalled by what her father did on her blog.

Mr D not your finest hour in these sort of comments, I don't think stealing a loaf of bread to feed a starving family makes you a criminal....I suppose your definition of a criminal is a person who looks at you sideways. Australia is a multiculteral society and no matter where they come from they are proud to be identified as Australian as opposed to Polish/Australian etc Do you call yourself Polish or Irish/Polish?

Wroclaw,

Is it possible to have a thread where, God forbid, only good things can be said about somebody of Polish ancestry?

Just look at most of these topics. Most of them disparage Polish people.

If you just look at my initial post by itself, I am NOT attacking or insulting anyone.

But then somebody with an Anti-Polish bias like Delphiadomine (and his other personalities) comes in to find fault with it and now we're at the point where what was meant to be a nice positive pro-Polish topic is on the verge of being closed.

This only sends the message to Polish-haters like Delphiamdomine that they can close any pro-Polish topic by finding any pretext to cause a commotion.

Naturally he is going to keep up the fighting to close the thread.

If he is angry at the premise, why doesn't he just ignore the topic and go somewhere else?

Why are all the positive pro-Polish topics and comments getting pushed to the bin but all of his hateful anti-Polish rabble rousing is allowed to stay?

Hey, it's just the common stereotype of Australians from the British point of view ;) The Americans don't get it - surprise.

And as for the bit in bold - exactly. I've never heard Australians babbling on about how they're Irish-Australian or whatever - they're just plain Australians. Likewise with people from NZ - I know several, and none of them have ever mentioned anything about being British or whatever. It's just a non-issue - it seems only Americans get erections over some random grandfather who just so happened to come from some other country.

Is it possible to have a thread where, God forbid, only good things can be said about somebody of Polish ancestry?

Who said anything bad about Samantha? Well, she is ugly, but apart from that... Anyway, why should there be such a thread? It's a discussion forum, warts and all.

Just look at most of these topics. Most of them disparage Polish people.

There's the door...

But then somebody with an Anti-Polish bias like Delphiadomine (and his other personalities) comes in to find fault with it and now we're at the point where what was meant to be a nice positive pro-Polish topic is on the verge of being closed.

Anti-Polish bias? Man...I live in Poland, work for a Pole (a very good looking, intelligent one, at that) and spend quite a lot of cash here. And what about you?

This only sends the message to Polish-haters like Delphiamdomine that they can close any pro-Polish topic by finding any pretext to cause a commotion.

There are no such things as "Pro-Polish" or "Anti-Polish" topics here.

Why are all the positive pro-Polish topics and comments getting pushed to the bin but all of his hateful anti-Polish rabble rousing is allowed to stay?

Filling a thread full of INSULTS will tend to cause that to happen.

That’s just your twisted anti-Polish interpretation, since most of the topics here attack Polish people and somebody is merely giving credit to a girl of Polish ancestry.

That mentality ceased long ago, A lot of Irish people settled in Australia who become great citizens what do you call them?
it seems only Americans get erections over some random grandfather who just so happened to come from some other country.[/quote

Poles in the US seem to like being identified as Polish/Americans and from the local point of view suggests that they are not yet a full American if you get the point... People who have some sort of Jewish blood love to be identified as Jewish!

British criminals, they were part of the UK back then ;)

(serious question - do you have many Asians emigrating to Australia?)

To a girl of British-Polish ancestry, yes. Please stop insulting her by only saying "Polish" when she only has one Polish grandfather.

You say that Stosur is of British ancestry. OK show us where she said she is of British ancestry.

Come on Delph, just show us ONE time where she said she is of British ancestry. Just one time. Is that too hard??

Also Australians of British ancestry are not ashamed of their British ancestry. That's just more of your nonsense.

But how can I live and breathe this forum, when I supposedly post on other forums too?

For the last time : she doesn't have to. If an Australian doesn't say, it's pretty obvious that they are.

Delph it isn't obvious that Australians are British. You do realize that Australians of British ancestry are just 32% of the population? You have people of German, Italian, Irish, Polish, Scottish, Aborigine, ect ancestry there.

Come on Delph,

Just find me one quote from her where she mentions she's of British ancestry? JUST ONE! Is that too hard?

Isn't this what you always demand of me when verifying somebody's ancestry??

Uh, if I want to monitor Polish people, I can step outside my house and....monitor them.

How can you when you barely speak Polish?

But actually, you are more concerned with monitoring what people of Polish ancestry say on the internet. We saw how you were obsessed with monitoring things said about your beloved Russia during the Smolensk tragedy.
