Polish day in Melbourne, Australia

Millwall07  Nov 4, 07, 20:39    #1
Anyone know the date for the Polish day in Melbourne Australia ? Last year I came across the day by accident at federation Square. Never been home to Cracow, but got a taste for what life must have been like for my family.

Great food, music, beer & women ! My Aussies mates are all up for a visit to Cracow

Nostrovia !

Thread attached on merging:
Polish Festival Melbourne

It was a scorcher of a day in Melbourne for the Polish Festival on Sunday. Plenty of polish beer, p±czki, pierogi etc.. and of course, polish people..... Lots of folk songs and dancing on the main stage and plenty of stuff to buy.. books, cds, dvds, hats, footballs, xmas decos etc.. Catching up with everyone was the best bit!

The lines for the food were pretty appalling... not to mention the prices. $7 for 4 pierogi is frankly a rip-off.

Considering what goes into them, thats nothing short of a complete rip off!

A lot of the profits went to local polish organisations, keep in mind that food at venues are always very expensive, a meat pie at the MCG costs about 9$, etc, no one is going to sell food at cost price.

Yeah I guess... can't help but cringe at the price though having just arrived from Poland.

Speaking of pricey, I saw the restaurant 'Babka' in fitzroy is selling barszcz (beetroot soup) for $8.50! This defeats the whole purpose of the Polish expression 'tani jak barszcz' (cheap as beetroot soup) :D

things are more expensive here than in poland...you can get a bottle of chopin vodka in poland for equivalent of $15-20AUD but in australia it would be $60-70AUD.

it isnt too bad a price considering what some "polish" restaurants in melbourne charge.

i would say that this is the going rate for soup, especially in fitzroy.

Yeah I know it's the going rate, it's just funny how people think they're getting something fancy when it's just... barszcz.

Where are these other 'Polish' restaurants in Melbourne you speak of?

hahahaha...it's fitzroy. you could sell sh1t with a fancy name there and the trendies would still be all over it.

they're more eastern european hybrids:

- court jester in brunswick
- borsch, vodka, tears in windsor (a sister restaurant right next door to elsternwick cinema)
- red lemon in richmond
- polish clubs in albion and rowville
