He was from Poland, he didn't speak a word of English, he was coming to Canada for a better life, and his name was Robert Dziekanski.
Police have identified him as the 40-year old man they tasered at Vancouver’s International Airport early Sunday morning after getting reports of a disruption in the arrivals terminal.

He got off the plane and started yelling and throwing chairs around. It took 4-5 officers to subdue him; even after they cuffed him he continued to resist. He may have been under the influence of drugs but others are suggesting he had a rare health condition. A women recorded the incident on her cell phone but the police didn't take a statement from her - the family should get a good lawyer. I don't know why they didn't try pepper spraying him first...

Here's a better article:

Sima Ashrafinia, who recorded the incident at the airport on her cellphone, told CBC News that RCMP officers stunned Dziekanski four times and handcuffed him after he fell on the floor.

He wasn't a victim of vodka..........he was a victim of paranoid cops/officials not knowing how to cope with the situation. No drugs/alcohol was found in his system. I'd get pissed off too if I was locked up in a room for hours not knowing what was going on.

"Another victim of vodka" - Is that the best you can come up with "Jett"?

A victim of vodka?? I hope you die a horrible death you sick son of a *****. The man was travelling for more than 30 hours, 8 of which he spent stuck in the baggage carousel. Under influence of drugs?? He was tired, confused and hungry. I don't know about you all, but I have travelled through many countries and airports, and sometimes, I am on the verge of turning violent when I'm stuck in a terminal, without food. Disgusting.. 4 cops to subdue a totally non-violent person.

my condolences to his mother Maria (Zofia) Cisowski.

I just saw the video, everything that could have gone wrong; indeed went wrong.
it is very shameful that our so called "finest" can act like a bunch of Hyenas, just
out for a kill. There must be a public-inquiry into this, Robert Dziekanski could
have been any of us!

there was no serving, and definitely no protection in the minds of those
rookie officer. just trigger happy wanting to test their toys.
congratulation vancouver, all a mother wants for Christmas...
... A son in a body bag. well done officers! I am glad my taxes are going
to good use. why don't we promote these cowards to chief of police?
Our motto should be:
"come to canada, where we kill you" and blame it on Your paranoid-rage.

Good points Dnalop

Its disturbing to see that many RCMP needed to "subdue" a non-violent man, and even if things got worse, to use bodily force first. Instead, they tasered him right off the bat and when he fell, tasered him a 2nd time. And then when he was already near passing out, one officer drove his knee into his throat and they never even tried reviving him when he was unconscious. A true credit to those uneducated bastards they have working there.
I hope those RCMP officers never go on a day without thinking of the innocent they killed.

- Canada, and especially so-called British Columbia (which is not British at all - not any more; actually is quite Britophobic, especially Anglophobic), is the most Polonophobic place I've ever been to. Hate propaganda against Poland and Poles in their media is virulent, open, shameless. The same goes for other public entities, including schools. Polish people are publicly ridiculed for their nationality, names, etc., with utter impunity. Third World immigrants learn this racism from the Canadian natives with gusto. How would you like to be served by a Chinese bank teller, barely speaking English, loudly making fun of your Polish surname? Canadian customs brutes treat Polish visitors as enemies - the brutes must be instructed by their superiors to do so, mustn't they? Try to turn to Canadian 'human rights organisations' with a complaint about any of the above - the rude grumpy racists sitting in them (mostly women) will tell you: 'I don't see any anti-Polish discriminaton / racism here!'

As regards Polonophobia, Canada seems the worst of all the American states I've been to. There's no comparison whatsoever between the treatment of Poles in UK and in Canada. In spite of some problems, the treatment is incomparably better in the UK, where, first of all, we are seen as fellow human beings by the vast majority of people, and, second, the government is friendly towards us. In Canada we're not perceived as human beings, but as laughable absurd stupid animals, and Canadian government seems to wink at and encourage this perception.

To me, Canadians are generally a bunch of psychopaths.

And now I hear they kindly consider making Canada visa-free for the Poles, well after having made the same for such respectable nations as Chinese from Hong Kong and Taiwan, Koreans and Czechs.

Some misinformed Poles are rejoicing at the prospect.

With all my might, I shall be persuading Poles not to go to this accursed land.

I am surprised that any Polish person is able to live in Canada. They are able to, because they shut their perception to the ubiquitous Polonophobia, don't they?

What the hell do we need Canada for, I fancy? We should sever out diplomatic and any other relations with this land of Polonophobic hate.

Let their bloody embassy, ripping off Poles with visa fees as ruthlessly as the Yank embassy, get the hell out of Poland.

what happened to Robert Dziekanski, was unbelievable.
please read my earlier comments on the subject above.

I am not saying these to change your mind Puzzler.
it seems like you've already made your mind about...
US, UK, China, Taiwan, Korea, Czechs, and now Canada.

There are many polish people here in Canada and
they are important part of this country. we learned
that through history of Canada. They've built this
country. As an immigrant myself living in Canada for
some 20 years, I have to say never once heard
of the word Polonophobia. The racist people usually
hate a whole bunch of countries not just one!

and if you are offended by a teller mispronouncing
your Polish surname, you should see how they butcher
an Arabic name such as mine.
wait, wait , don't tell me ... now hate Arabs too!

VANCOUVER - Animalistic cries of pain are the last the world hears of a newly-arrived immigrant in dramatic video released Wednesday.
The images are so explosive Robert Dziekanski's mother, who hasn't seen the whole video, has been driven into seclusion to avoid seeing it repeated on newscasts, her lawyer told The Canadian Press.
But they also raise serious questions about why the police resorted to using the Taser only seconds after encountering the non-violent man last month at the Vancouver airport.
And it contradicts what police said happened that night.
Zofia Cisowski sits on a waiting list for psychiatric care to help her get through the loss of her only son, Walter Kosteckyj said, and so he hopes the gripping video holds the police accountable for their actions that night.

Here is the video....Very sad.

liveleak.com/view?i=936_1195094875

Your Thoughts Please, personally it seems This guy obviously was frustrated and tired. It sounds like he was stuck in the Airport all night and could not communicate to get help. The trashing of stuff was the last act of a desperate man. When they confronted him though he did seem to stand down and acknowledge what he did. However the use of the tazer in my opinion was not warranted...

- Well, it seems you're quite an ignorant 'immigrant' then. Regarding the fact Canada has the good luck of hosting you, I'm not surprised at the least.

And if you mean there's no anti-Polish racism in Canada, I'll say as they say in North America: you're in denial, pal.

I have actually seen in Canada also types from Arabic countries putting down Polish people. As I have mentioned above, racism is contagious.

Quoting: Dnalop

- I have never seen any show of negativity against Arabs in everyday life in Canada, e.g. in banks and other public institutions, apart from the media psychopaths' usual anti-Arab coverage and the Jewish community's usual utterances of hatred.

The Canadian bigot is careful not to offend Arabs out of fear he can be blown up or accused of 'racism.'

Well, I think I know where you're coming from, pal: by 'defending' Canada - Canadian racists in fact - you hope, as an Arab immigrant, to ingratiate yourself into Canadians' favour, at the Poles' expense. You're hoping Canadians will say: 'Arabs good, Poles bad,' aren't you?

Yeah, I noticed in Canada that 'people of colour' often deny there's racism against e.g. the Poles there, because they fear that if 'human rights' charges of racism should be applied to others than them, then they may be left behind, their chunk of the pie may get too small. A cunning lot indeed!

Yeah, today Canada is heaven for the Third World creeps like you, but not the Poles.

Quoting: Dnalop
wait, wait , don't tell me ... now hate Arabs too!

- Why would I hate Arabs? Don't put your own dirty words into my mouth, pal.

As for you, your comment seems to be proof of your quite unfriendly attitude towards the Poles.

Well, according to e.g. Iranian stereotype, Arabs have the tendency to lie (Iranians despise the Arabs).

Watch out, pal, that you don't give evidence of this stereotype's being correct.

Wow, looky what a 'defender' from Arabia the Canadian racists and bigots have!

- Well, any proof of my alleged hatred towards any one in any country?

I deeply dislike Canada indeed, as I have good reasons to dislike it. While living in that dump, my sense of humanity was abused so unbearably I got seriously ill - so seriously ill, in fact, I nearly died.

All my opinions about Canada are based on personal experience. How would you like me, pal, to prove their accordance with the facts, please?

Yeah, I know - you consider yourselves a sovereign country (a great country, the best to live in - UN itself has said that, so it must be true!). But almost everything that is essential to national identity in this great sovereign country is American: the language, the schoolbooks, the TV, the fashion, the industry, you name it. Yes, American. Your military, or rather lack of it, is also American: you reduce spending on the army knowing full well that in case of any attack against Canada the Yanks will defend you all the same. And then you travel in the world, including Europe, with the (awful) Canadian flag on your foreheads so that any one can see you're Canadians, not Americans, and you scream aloud: 'I'm not American!' and tell every one how horrible the Americans are. Hehe, when the Yanks boycotted the murderous Castro regime, you travelled to Cuba en masse for cheap cigars, prostitutes and liquor, believing you were thus opposing the Yank imperialism.... A nice loyal bunch you are indeed. :)

In reality, you're an American state with a kind of special rights, special autonomy. Besides, you're torn apart culturally and ethnically: part of the place is (a funny jargon of) French-speaking Quebec, the other part so-called English (sic) Canada; both parts despise and hate each other wholeheartedly.

As for your Britophobia, I remember e.g. an article in the racist rag Globe and Mail, your 'national newspaper,' where Britain was compared to an old emaciated dog which still remembers its long-gone glory days and hopes they may return. I remember the crude ridicule of the Queen and the Royal Family too. But formally Her Majesty is head of Canada, isn't she? I remember countless negative comments about the English and England, from both native Whites and Third World immigrants.

I've written a bit chaotically, but I'll be more than happy to continue this debate about, ahem, Polish-Canadian relations, and share with you my long rich experence of living in Canada. I have kept a diary for many years, with press clippings, so I'm ready to quote from it too.

But for now - a Polish man has been murdered with impunity by Canadian coppers. I hope Heaven will pay in kind to those sadistic bandits and their families, because most probably Canadian 'justice' will let them get away with murder. From now on, I shall associate Canadian pigs' red uniforms with blood.

Hello there,

I'm a European high level education man. I used to think that Canada is a very beautiful country to travell and meet new people. Nowadays I prefer not to travell there because of the very bad news talking about abuses of policemen... and other things... very sad... European people can't comprehend this attitude against foreigners !!! Because of the great treatment that American people receive in Europe...

By the way, I hear that in some Internet survey (?), Canada was voted the most hospitable country in the world!!! SIC!!!!

Boy, oh boy!!!

... 'The most hospitable' to whom, I ask? To Third World creatures, such as the brownoser calling himself Dnalop?

See how good surveys can be?

i just saw the video and i think using the taser gun by that cop 3 or 4 times was totally uncalled for. that Polish guy had spent almost 10 hrs at the airport, was stressed out and at his wits' end. yes, he was acting strange, but when that cop tased him he was already sourrouned by 3 or 4 officers. please, they couldn't just knock him down? what's really disturbing though is what i saw at the end of the video, when one officer, who was sitting on the victims head took a baton ( or something of this kind) and did something that looked like hitting that dude.! And he had already been handcuffed!!! what the f***? can somebody please explain? here's the link to the article with both videos: before the cops showed up and what happend when they tased him.

I believe this officer was just retracting his "wand" or baton by hitting it into the ground to put it back into his holster.

Oh and Puzzler, you crossed the line with all your anti-Canadian comments man. Why don't you fly over to Saudi Arabia and see how you're treated there. Canada does have many incidences like this, but it's still a safe haven, FOR ALL NATIONALITIES compared to the rest of the world.

If you are such a 'high level education man' you might actually come to Canada and learn something. While this incident is an absolute embarrassment ( and I completely disagree with it), it is an extreme rarity. Police here are pretty lenient, and crime is no doubt lower than in your country..

If you were as educated as you say you are, you'd know better then to judge a country based on one thing. If I did the same, I would have never spent a year living in 'violent' Italy after I saw police there, on international TV news, kill a globalization protestor with a gun and then proceed to run over his lifeless corpse in their jeep. Fortunately I know better than to judge an entire country on one bad, bad decision by very few.
