Going to Paris for 10 days, any hints?

Hello fellow PF'ers,

I wonder if anyone who has already been to Paris could recommend any "off the beaten track" places to see and visit. I'm not talking about must see places which I will surely check out, but rather places well hidden or maybe just less known. Small pubs or restaurants and such. I'm gonna add I'm a poor Pole so it's more of a budget trip than a fully fledged 5 stars sightseeing. Yeah, but anyways I'd appreciate any ideas or hints.

Paris is huge and there is so much to do and see... the best is to wonder around with a map - discover it and experience it yourself... i love Paris! PS - Polson will know best...

Don't forget to leave flowers at Chopins grave!!!! Make sure they're red and white roses or tulips...those were his favorite ^_^

I'll give you one piece of friendly advice; Don't wander off the beaten track too much if you're going to be on your own in Paris. Some of the suburbs are lethal, and you don't really want to end up in most of those well-hidden bars either. (Whatever you do, don't say I didn't tell you!) ;)

Tough call frd;) Many of the 'hidden gems' from my regular visits there years ago have been discovered and the prices have risen accordingly - I blame the internet. One nice place to visit that is often ignored are the lovely Japanese style gardens at the UNESCO headquarters. They used to be free to enter. There are still some good places to eat down the sidestreets around Montmartre. (Just take AJ as a bodyguard - joking as I've never had a real problem apart from being solicted around there).

I've been in Paris once for 2 days with a polish pigrimage ;) We were residing in the cheapest hotel ( called Formula 1 ) in a really bad district - all panel buildings there had their base floor burnt and burnt car wrecks laying everywhere.. I haven't seen much of Paris then because I was small and we were mostly sitting in Churches ;) This time I've got accomodation in one of the centre zones, near all the sightseeing places so I'm focusing on the centre really...

Make sure you visit the CHEZ CHARTIER restaurant ( metro Station Grand Boulevards) , cheap and an institution dating back from ages, also in the same arrondissement the famous passage Choiseul, passage Verdeau
Take a stroll on the romantic Canal St Martin ( metro station: Gare de l'Est).
For cafés and funky trendy admosphere, go to rue du Faubourg St Denis ( metro Strasbourg st Denis) café le NAPOLEON ( the owner is French from Polish origin) and for the best home made French fries and beer on the same street the restaurant-café : LE CADRAN DU FAUBOURG.

Hehe, a bit too late Lwowska, have been to Paris and had a really great time, probably the best vacation I had for a long time. I might use your hints when I'm visiting it again someday :) Thanks for all the hints from all the people, really helpful. I still feel that I would need aother ntwo weeks to be satisfied with Paris though ;)
