you may well be right Puzzler... to be truthful i have read very little in the media about italian prejudice against poles which of course is not suggesting it isnt happening, just that i know very little about it...

i like much of what italy has to offer... but having lived there for some time... the wrong side of roma... i know first hand what the country is like...

isn't the concept of West and East in Europe a racial one?

Bubba, you couldn't read about the subject in the media, because the media do not write about it. They prefer to focus on vastly imagined abuses against the Asiatics, Africans, and other media sponsors' allies.

Daffy, brother, I'll reply. You've got it like in a bank. All the best.

Wow, that is why in one sense the U.S. seems to be able to incorporate different ethnic groups better than Europe.

My neighborhood used to be mainly Polish and now has Hmong, Scottish, Mexican, Germans, Puerto Ricans, Pakistani's, Italians, and Sikhs. We all celebrate Thanksgiving Day which is mainly an American Holiday of thanks to God. You should see the Muslim, Hmong, Mexican, etc... buying their Turkeys in preparation for the holiday. I really don't recall ethnic hatred, except recently because of the huge numbers of illegal aliens ( 12 million) in our country.

Legal immigrants are generally accepted. My Polish-American son plays bastketball with 2 Blacks, 1 Algerian-Muslim, 3 Serbs, 2 Greeks, 2 Mexican, 1 Sicilian and 1 Croatian boy. They are all Americans on the Basketball court.

Well yes. They play American tackle football, soccer (we have snow, now) starts soon. It is basketball and baseball season now. They play most sports with the same crew.

Good. They'll make a better team if they stick together

Is it just neighborhood sports, or for their school???

In the US the Polish Club Soccer team plays the Bavarian, Croatian, Serbian, Latino, and Italian teams.

Then there are school soccer teams which are cheap and everyone can play. The tackle football teams are also for everyone. The club soccer teams hold try-outs and can be quite competitive.

By the way, there was an incident when a Polish woman was 'treated' in a hospital in Rome just as the Polish man with pneumonia (may he rest in peace). Now does Rome lie in southern Italy? Is Corriere della Sera a Southern wop rag? It's published in Milano....

Amathyst, do you mean that I misrepresent Daffy's English a lot? Any evidence of that? If no evidence, should it be assumed that you misrepresent my English?

And the "funniest" thing is that Italians are one of the most liked nations by Poles. It's time to change that.

yeah it is time to change that

Southern wops are what I like to call arabs

Puzzler:
BNP accepts as members folks from Africa, but denies membership to the Poles?

Puzzler:
The Thirlsworlders

I find this post very funny. Puzzler is so against racism and Polonophobia but in every post of his he is being (a lot) racist.
Racism is the most disgusting feeling someone can have towards ANY nation, ANY race, unfortunetely there is in this world and, Puzzler, Poland is not free from that because they are europeans or whatever... polish people are not better than africans or arabics.

According to some, so were many people on 9/11. Mr Corriga is one person who knew that various prominent Italians were in on the act. Look up Gelli and Balustreli, they knew a thing or two about 9/11

Hello,I'm an italian girl from Sardinia, the island near to Corsica.
I'm really really concerned about what you wrote.
My country is not what it was before, not anymore.
We were use to remember that once we were migrants too, lookin for jobs.
We knew the meaning of solidarity, acceptance and curiosity.
Now,ignorance seems to be everywhere here.
As far as I know, italians do not have any particular problem with Poles....the fact is,they have a problem with people that comes from other coutries looking for a job in Italy.
And you know why?Poverty.
The class that was used to be called "middle class" just a few years ago,is now struggling to get 'till the end of the month.
In their ignorance, italian people blame their poverty on foreign people, sayin they "take away" "their" jobs..
The fact is,they choose criminals as politicians, for years and years, and they stole people's money, and now we're really near to what happened in Argentina a few years ago.
It's like in middle age,a war between poor people, the poor against the poorest.
By the way, that does not justificate the violence of the cops.
Sadly, that is what remains of 20 years of fascism,20 years that we don't really talk about. In fact, some policemen have been taught to act(towards italians and towards foreigners)like morons....just see what happened for the G8 in Genova.
I'm only 24 and I'm so sick and tired of this country.
I don't know if I want to be called "italian" anymore.
My island have always had a strong identity and rebellion against Italy is maybe a gift from my ancestors....still,people calls me italian, and I feel sardinian.
Well,I have to say that we are really really really different people compared to the average italian person.
Hospitality is still sacred for us.

By the way I must tell U that even if you think that Northern Italians are better than Southern, you should know that the all North voted strong for a party called Lega Nord: one of their strongest arguments is the hate against all the migrants that comes to italy looking for a job, called "thief" and "rapers"...
Another sad thing to say about my country...
That's why Europe is my hope, most of all,all the countries that recently joined it like Poland.
The way you care for education and other important things makes think that there are still good things in this world.

Sorry,I've been really boring.
Ciao :)

Lilli,
I enjoyed reading your post. As long as there are people like you in the world there will be the hope that things will get better.

hey I'm Italian so I feel compelled to give my own opinion. I myself have plenty of foreign friends and my bf is Polish. Unfortunately it is sadly true that racism has been growing lately, and the gvt is setting up CRAZY laws about immigration. but its not ONYL so and it's never been ALWAYS so.
there seems to be a phobia about foreigners without their "permit of stay" and its defintely true that media is to blame.

But conc. Poles, I wouldn't say they're in trouble. They're seldom perceived as "different" and they normally fit in quite well. there's plenty of mixed couples (mostly PL girls and ITA boys, I'm an exception so far;)).

about the slaves in souther italy, its a complete shame. poles were the only nationality able to charge their patrons and get some jsutice done. at least police started to control.

but genrally speaking, i wouldnt say we're close-minded and racists. mostr odf th etimes we're warm and welcoming.

Well I'm italian and I'd like to answer this topic...yes right some italians (everyday more) are racist but not only against polish people but also from Romania, Albania, Morocco...by the way I must say people are not fascist, people are only tired of so many bad immigrants here, very often just criminals even in their country. In some cities life is impossible, in suburbs and people cannot go out in the evening because it's very dangerous. Of course there are honest immigrants, really..I know them, but I say..if you don't like Italy, why do you come here?...then Italy is not the best country (among western)...especially for young people with degree...low salary, no jobs.
It88  Nov 19, 08, 12:58    #56
well i am (north)italian and will answer in english so everybody will understand.I am one of the supposed "voters" of the lega nord...i can't believe u really think this, actually here in my town the most powerful party has been, for many years to this, the opposite of the lega nord, and please do not think that everybody here voted for that party. And besides not everybody here is racist and can't tolerate immigrants or foreigners. In the end is a shame for me as italian when i read about u feeling "sardinian"...just can't understand that statement.Anyway i share the same feeling with you about Europe, but i think we are very few who thinks like that...

Take Italy out of the lyrics to Poland's National Anthem.
Guest  Feb 17, 09, 06:42    #58
I thought I should tell you about in Chicago, I overheard young women complaining about their Italian boss in Cafe restaurants. They were mad at their bosses for calling them Dumb Polish and that is all you Polish people know how to clean up the houses, restaurants and offices. Guess what Italian men even spit on the floors for Polish women to wash the floors in all Cafes. Italian really married Polish women so they have someone to clean and wash clothes for them. Italian men make their wives to cook three time a day. Cruel men.

after reading this, i'm trying to think back over the years if i've ever known a genuinely nice italian i could consider as a friend .... *scratches head* it's sad, not many really ... from what i remember, all i recall is big ego's, fakery, and overall rudeness .... quite sad really

is there a reason they're so grumpy towards poles?
maciek :)  May 3, 10, 22:50    #60
Its funny how people will hate a country (and ALL the people who come from it, in this case Italy) just because some people were cruel or racist. EVERY country in the world has racist people, and criminals. this is just one event that happened. SOME people did this to polish people. ok, they are criminals. but this doesn't make 60 million people like them. How would a polish person feel if let's say a polish guy raped a girl in china, annd then he would be tagged as a rapist because that guy who comes from the same country did something wrong? people like this disgust me. generalizing an entire nation just because of one or a few people's acts. this is not just for italy, but ounts for every country. I am olish and lived in italy for 12 years. my GF is italian. there i met my best friends and was welcomed by her family and had the best times of my life. and it really hurts me when my fellow polish friends will write posts where they hate an entire nation just for what a few people did. this mentality is really the worst you could have. there are bad people in poland too, that doesn't mean that all polish people are bad. same counts for every country in the world. so if tomorrow a polish guy murdered 3 spanish girls and spanish people would hate every single innocent polissh person how would you feel? think people, think.
