Just woke the missus up laughing!!

But seriously......I tried to watch Kidulthood last night..... My better half (who speaks English almost natively) turned to me and said...."Do you understand them?"

I had to answer truthfully, "Not a bloody word!!"

So we put Usta Usta on instead.

Oh and if Kidulthood is anywhere near the truth.....We will not be returning to the UK in a hurry.

I've noticed, in the 90s anyway, that west indian and indians in Scotland would call themselves Scottish but in London describe themselves as Black British or British Indian, not the scots ones I mean England born ones. I can't see how any of them could call themselves English. Not sure if it was that Scotland done integration better or Scottish generally prefer to call themselves Scottish rather than British.
I can't be sure with some of the definitions given a few posts ago if Her Maj can call herself English, maybe British;) Why is her face still on all that foreign money, anyway.

If you mean those people in the you tube vid, they were not British I don't think.

Their jibber-jabber didn't have an English sounding accent even by some of today's rather low standards.

Who,unlike,oh,I dont know,3rd generation Polish/Armenians (see what I did there?) can actually still speak the language of their forefathers relativly fluently..............My mate Yaz was well put out though when he went to stay with family back in Pakistan for a month, the entire time every one there kept laughing at his English accent and his funny, old fashioned way of speaking Urdhu :):)

This is why I have Polish friends here and I read in Polish so whenever I go back to Poland for a vacation I wont be looked at like I'm not Polish. My friends brother came to visit from Poland a few weeks ago (an educated man) and I was curious to see if my Polish has changed I asked him if there's a American accent when I speak it , he said 'no I would have never thought you've been here that long'. So it's nice to speak two languages and being able to switch the accent.

I think it's because African-Americans and others don't feel equal even to me, even to an immigrant because i'm white. I've had a few look at me with envy

Talk about being obesessed with something one didn't have a choice about when being born ... and that too to such a high degree. Obsession ... and what a lame one.

Re-read what you wrote and your perspective can be smelt from it. However, if you don't have the common sense or seeing it through those words you wrote, no further explanation will have any effect.

Its futile to explain those who live to deny truth, and its not needed to explain those who can see it.

Yes, I have one.

Why don't you want white people to be in the minority ?

I'm not flaming you for saying it, I like your honesty, just curious as to why that is.

I have no problem at all relating to people who have a different skin colour to me.

But then I'm not a racist.

I'm not racist I don't relate to white trash either, except (at least in this country) usually a non white is 'ghetto trash' I don't talk, dress, behave, walk like him I don't listen to the same music, or find anything he does interesting. The Arab, Jewish, Moroccan, Turkish, Haitian, Latino friends I do have act, dress, talk 'white' . It's not racist it's society, why don't people who look or dress or talk a certain way get office jobs?

It's more serious than that. To just be able to relate to others on the surface (literally) will mean very shallow relationships and a self-imposed denial of experience. I dread to imagine how dreary life would be. It's classic karma, if I can steal an idea of the Hindus.

Usually non-whites are ghetto trash? Such delightful racism there, pity that the comment proves once and for all that your claim to have graduated from Penn State is a lie: Penn State ranks fifth in the nation in the number of Black faculty at flagship state universities and very nearly one in five of all Penn State students are non-white. What are the chances of you making such stupidly bigoted statements if you had gone to Penn State?
