Considering that B16 lacked his Polish predecessor's youthfulness (in 1982), physical attractviness, charisma and impresssive stage presence, the German-born Pontiff did surprisingly well during his 4-day visit to England and Scotland. Since this was a state visit (JPII had paid a pastoral visit), there was far more hostility prior to his arrrival.

Yeah...I'm surprised to see the german media giving a quite positive summary of the popes visit in GB.
The main say is that he came into a hostile country with many protesters but was surprisingly able to get respect from a majority of them.

They say that his quiet, serious manner somehow impressed them...

*shrugs*

How did he do this???
